I always loved Billy's tone on the snare drum. Such a nice sound this man gets from his instrument. And talk about technique......goodness....Billy is the quintessential "cool" relaxed cat on the drums.
I wish I had that kind of strength in both hands, I usually do the snare beat with my left wrist, and other fast stuff with my right. I don't really know how to build that kind of speed with my left.
This guy seems 30 years younger than Billy Cobham. Cobham is 67. Is he just copying Billy? In any case, I can see where Simon Phillips gets much of his inspiration.
