    SPARTAAAAA!!!!

  • Donovon Bailey right person right place right time same time as

Ben Johnson. Thank you Donovan Bailey! You made Canada proud!

  • if he had a better start that world record would be insane

  • beautiful form, devastating accelerating

  • Golfer ELdRICK “Tiger” Woods: born 12/30/75—the 2nd b’day of 1996 Atlanta Olympic medalist Ato Boldon. Unrelated to irrelevance of proms: Boldon attended Piedmont Hills High in San Jose, CA. Other notable alums include “Bring Light” internet executive Melissa Dyrdahl & Yahoo! founder Jerry Yang. Unrelated: watch?v=hXKqSY11Z2A or 1241 Julian R. ALLsBROOK in Great Falls Shp.Center. Long jumper SHEDdRIC Fields & Ato Boldon competed in 1991 U.S. Junior Olympics Track and Field Championships in NC

  • Olympian Ato Boldon (TRI) ran fifth in Heat 6 of the 1992 Olympics 200m quarterfinals, finishing behind HENRICO ATKINS at 4th and SAMuel Nelson BOATeng (GHA) at #3. Marcus Adam (GBR b. 2/28/68) won the heat. Internet executive Melissa Dyrdahl and Boldon both attending Piedmont Hills High in San Jose, CA could evoke BOATeng turning 22 the day ill-fated internships commenced: 5/14/90—especially considering compiling Henrico primary results; Boldon & Greene and sprints not being measured by foote

  • Real funny how no one calls Carl Lewis name in the "CHEAT" when he failed the test more than once

  • @LRel2 I believe he's a cheat and i'm american. you are right, big coverup. He cheated in seoul as well, took stimulants, so did lindford. gold should have gone to calvin smith. he did not cheat. i saw him coachingat alabama and on a whim entered a senior 100m, without training, jumped in and ran a 10.2 or something. looked like it was a nice walk in the park.

  • @TheAngeltoDemon Exactly. He took it hard when Ben beat him. Like I say... I have a deep love for the sport. if athletes really love the sport they would resist on the drug use and keep the sport alive. Might as well make another branch of track and field. One for Drug Steroid users and one for non-steroid users.

  • @LRel2 back then everybody was getting busted for Sudafed, and they all got off the hook, too.

  • Comment removed

  • @TheEctomorph that's what I said, the ephedra ban was unenforceable because everyone got the inadvertent-use exemption. So all sprinters used ephedra.

  • @LRel2 Actully, sir, plenty of people have made it clear - over the course of the last 8 years or so - that they regard Carl Lewis as a drugs cheat, and therefore as a hypocrite. Remember how self-righteous and sanctimonious Mr Lewis was back in September 1988 - when it came to light that his great sprinting rival, Benjamin Johnson of Canada, had been using illegal, performance-enhancing 'persian rugs'.

Although big Carl Lewis did himself fail a drugs test a few months before the Seoul

  • @LRel2 [Continuing on from my previous 'post' about Carl Lewis' doping offence]: Olympics in 1988 - and therefore deserved to be barred from taking any part in those Games as a competitor - his doping violation was, in the overall scheme of things, a relatively minor one (from what I understand, at any rate). I believe that Lewis was found to have taken a prohibited stimulant - NOT an anabolic steroid.

To the best of my knowledge, the guy who won the Olympic long jump title four times

  • @LRel2 [Continuing on from my previous 'posts' about Carl Lewis' doping offences]: was never found guilty of taking HARD performance-enhancing drugs - i.e. anabolic steroids - at any stage during his career as an international athlete (which began in 1980 and lasted until 1996).

Of course, there are plenty of people who believe that, in reality, Lewis was as big a cheat as Ben Johnson ...... and, for all I know, these people may be right to believe that. However, I prefer to give the

  • @LRel2 [Continuing on from my previous 'posts' about Carl Lewis' doping offences]: former Olympic sprint and long jump champion the benefit of the doubt, and to believe that his long string of glittering accomplishments - on the track and in the field - between 1980 and '96 were not achieved by dishonest means - i.e. by the use of performance-enhancing anabolic steroids.

I realize that plenty of people will think that I am being somewhat naive - and too soft - in my appraisal of

  • @LRel2 [Continuing on from my previous 'posts' about Carl Lewis' doping offences]: Frederick Carlton ["Carl"] Lewis, and for all I know they may be right. It is possible that this man - who set the athletics world alight, so to speak, in August 1984 by winning four gold medals at the L.A. Olympics - was as big a cheat (and fraud) as Ben Johnson, Tim Montgomery, Justin Gatlin and Marion Jones. But I sincerely believe - and hope - that that he wasn't.

  • @LRel2 We're with you there. We always knew Lewis was dirty, and couldn't figure out how he kept beating the tests. Well, when your entire nation is willing to suppress results and lie for you, it becomes fairly easy. That bastard. I'd love to kick him in the balls!

But on to better things - Donovan's facial expression is something I'll remember for the rest of my life. Just like I'll never forget the way Joe Carter looked as he rounded the bases in '93 :)

  • CHEAT

  • Look at how he blows away from the field in 2 seconds from :09 to :11. Incredible.

  • even with that poor start...imagine a decent one damnn

  • keep pressing 6 8 and 9

  • canadian, bar, pints, no-way.....

  • Q: Was 19 the drinking age in Canada back in 1988?

This report claims at 0:20 that "Donovan Bailey was in a bar in Toronto" during Ben Johnson's ill-fated attempt at Olympic fame at the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul, Korea. Donovan would have barely been 20 years old at the time, and too young to legally enter a bar in the USA.

  • @Visionary0001 It's been 19 in almost all of Canada since the 70s. It was actually 18 before, and still is in a couple of provinces.

  • @Visionary0001 No. I was born in '57 and was able to get an early start because the legal age was 18 in Ontario. My husband was born in '60, and he just made it before they bumped it to 19 in '89. And I remember the '88 games so well. We lived in a complex of 30 small buildings. It was a beautiful night in T.O. and EVERYONE in Canada was glued to a TV/radio somewhere. As soon as Ben won, we could hear people screaming all over, and car horns on the 401 and Yonge St. Magical while it lasted...

  • @Visionary0001 Oops, just noticed my math was off by a decade. The drinking age was raised in '79! Well, I told you I started young, and Canadian beer has a measurable alcohol content, unlike some of the brands south of the border :)

    Cheers, Keiko

  • Hey this is not 1996 Olympic final! It was won by Carl Lewis 9.86, and second was Leroy Burrel 9.88!

  • @baybarf no

  • @baybarf : This is the 1996 Olympic Finals. You are referring to the 1991 Worlds when Lewis won in 9.86, Burrell 2nd in 9.88, Dennis Mitchell in 9.91, Linford Christie in 9.92

  • @baybarf That would make you WRONG.lol This is the Atlanta Olympics final in the 100m.

  • Donovan and Usain are my two favourite athletes. so inspiring

  • my dad was there

  • Lol @ the dudes face 0:22

  • i've watched lots of 100 meter races before 1996. and i can't understand how they break the 10 second barrier. if you notice, when they got out of the blocks, they don't lean like the actual sprinters. we've already seen Greene, Gay, Bolt and (MAINLY) Powell, they run about 30 meters with the head down. These these 80's and early 90's athletes first stand up and then run. they barely use the blocks!!! i don't understand how they can run under 10 seconds, it doesn't make any sense

  • @andreborges13 HEAD down is not essential, the angles of the trunk & spine necessary for good acceleration were achieved by sprinters in 80s and 90s....tucking chin in and forcing head down when the torso is in 'sprint position' is of no benefit (like Asafa when he 'drives' out for 45m, if he got lifted his head when his torso is up he'd be much more efficient, especially in the big races)

  • @bossofalltime wouldn't they have a more efficient acceleration if they ran the first meters with some angle inclination of the torso?

  • @andreborges13 For sure, a lot of the past generation sprinters could've gained a lot from a bit more lean.

  • @bossofalltime still, they didn't lean and managed to run a sub 10 race. that's impressive!!!

  • If i won first place in the 100m dash at the Olympics, i'd make a face like that too.

  • @doughboy20211 Damn right!

  • i remember it was a terrible olympics for britain. 1 gold medal in rowing, how things have turned around now.

  • his stride is fucking sadistic...!

  • @Sdelosinfiernos

you got that right...looks like hes on springs

  • @Karmartia jeje Yes, looks that he was flying!

  • little ben

  • 0:26 OMGZZ HE STOLE MY FRIED CHIKIN

    0:32 WAAAAT!!

0:44 he ate my chicken. -.-

  • Fuck these commentators...

  • unforgettable race!!!! bailey had killer legs!!!!!!!!!!

  • love this angle

  • ben johnson was cheating just like every other person in that final heat in 88 at the seoul games, he just got caught right after

  • Haha, I remember seeing this live on TV 14 years ago. I never forgot Bailey's face when he won. Priceless!

  • Donovan's face looks like Bobby Brown, the "has been" singer, formerly married to Whitney Houston. Really. Take a good look at Donovan when he's not screaming.

  • Millions of jobs lost. Violence on streets. Buisnesses going down.. War with Iraq. And now al queda has a nuke that can be used... God help us

  • The US is 11 trilion dollars in debt... I can't wait to turn 18 and go to europe!

  • @superchunk1234 wont be any better moron when the americans do bad so does everyone else why do u think we aare still the leading economy with trillions in debt?

  • This race conjures up a vast array of images. It is a testament to the human spirit; resilience and fortitude - can you imagine what was going through Bailey's head; before, during, and after the race?

Every now and again, you get a moment - just one moment - so incontrovertibly poignant and emotionally stirring, that it moves your very being - it serves as an impeccable symbol of life...

So can we please stop with the hateful comments? Unite together in commemoration of humanity; of life!

  • Americans are the Biggest Sorehead Losers in the World and in the History of All Sports!!!!!!!!

Being the Worst Soreheads Losing is what Americans Are Born To Be in Their Nature!!!!!

  • @NiagaraFalls4424 Yea well Canada has one of the weakest military forces in world and if your country got attacked (with out the help of your allies) you would be overtaken easily. Its also nice how all the folks that own houses around niagara falls are forced into turning them into bed and breakfasts just to keep them because your socialist country has taxes that are so high. Canada=Fail

  • @NiagaraFalls4424 On top of that you have no freedom of speech, freedom of assembly, freedom of the press and on and on. Try carrying a concealed weapon in Canada...you cant even bear arms. Yay for Canada. Canada=Fail

  • dude your an idiot and obviously have very little education and knowledge of Canada. I am so happy to be Canadian and not American. Take your guns and go invade another country..... yay for USA. USA= every country hating you!

  • @SuperSoundbyte Enjoy your freedom. Oh wait you dont have any! It wouldnt take guns to take over cananda.

  • @jordan19862000 yea thats really insightful thanks for proving my point.

  • @SuperSoundbyte I didnt prove your point. I said you have no freedoms. How does that prove your point?

  • @jordan19862000 thats something a nazi would say

  • @jordan19862000 Didn't you see BOWLING FOR COLUMBINE? We own plenty of guns. We had a rifle on the cottage wall when I was growing up as my father hunted, and we ate what he bagged. However, in our day-to-day life we are a pretty laid-back people and settle arguments with strangers by hugging it out. Damn this computer screen that separates us :(

Besides, concealed weapons are dangerous. Just ask Plaxico!

  • Best face ever !!!!!! :) lol

  • Yeah, LOL, he looked like a sprinting zombie after he won.

  • @senojelyk

I hope one day I can pull a face like that ! :)

  • 0:27

  • you cant beat golden shoes.

    gg.

  • i say legalize drug use, it brings out the very best in people

  • where the FUCK is your proof that Bailey was on drugs?!

  • What the FUCK are you talking about? I'm not accusing Mr. Bailey of being a drug user!!! But..... when does anyone need proof when accusing a track star of using drugs? The comment section is full of accusations and lame theories concerning this chick Flojo, and where is anyone PROOF!!!! Again, I say legalize the PED's and move on.

  • why would they legalize them? There are amazing athletes that are clean you know, Bolt, Michael Johnson, Bailey, Greene...

  • Big UP the Jamaicans!!

They PROVE that you DONT have to take toxic substances to perform better, just raw hard work, ackee& saltfish, Breadfruit, yam& banana, mango, oxtail soup, curried gaot& rice, irish moss, callaloo& cabbage, corn bread& syrup, with regular Bashment music & parties...

and U are all 'GOOD TO GO!!!'

No KFC & McDs for them!

The BEATS they got when they were young, they HAVE to run fast. Lol!

  • Go ATO BOLDON and FRANK FREDERICKS go go go!!!

  • Another Jamaican reppin canada . Jamaica is the root of all sprinting even without all the facilities and colleges like overseas countries they still dominate it must be natural. what they hell are they eating out there. i must move back to my roots and get some of that food. maybe i'll break a few records.

  • i actually heard they put a ton of money into their track program. they do indeed have the facilities and resources over there & they are obviously putting them to good use!

  • Bailey still holds the World Record in the 50m if you can bend your mind around that.I still can't.Amasing,as he was known as a average starter.

  • He was an average starter....in the 100m. That was his method. He saved his best for the last 40m or so of the 100. His times in the 50m show he could get the kick out of the blocks whenever he wanted.

  • ben johnson drugged up? back then, everybody was dopin up. that includes carl lewis. a little country like jamaica, which is a dot on the planet earth, can produce the best n fastest in both gender catergories.

  • Its true that everyone is on something, then and now. We put so much pressure on athletes to win that its impossible to think that they wouldn't look for an advantage.

The thing that people don't seem to understand about these drugs is that they don't give you magical abilities you wouldn't of had otherwise. They just let your body heal faster so you can train and work harder.

  • excellent point.

  • @CanadaMMA Which gives an unfair advantage- and that IS cheating.

  • @AquaPurificada

What is an unfair advantage and what is simply part of a regular training regiment is decided by someone in an office somewhere. We like to pretend high level athletes aren't on anything, even though deep down we know they are. The only time we acknowledge it is when it is thrown so blatantly in our face. Then we turn on them and condemn them for doing something we knew they were doing all along.

The real reason we do it is because they ruined our fantasy, not for cheating.

  • @CanadaMMA I like your username btw, MMA rules. You are pretty much spot on, the onlything you failed to mention is in addition to being able to recuperate, they also make you alot stronger and help to add more functional muscle. So, yes, if you are an average joe, PEDs will not make you world class sprinter....but if you already have the god given talent, PEDs will do wonders. Even everyone's favorite U Bolt, his progression of speed just does not make sense.100mrecordsused to last, nomore

  • @TheAngeltoDemon Bolt been a headline in track & field from High School days. Alot of people don't relize it. He's been broking records. Check out his history. Jamaica High School games, he broke records. On the Carifta Games, he broke records. World Junior games, he broke records. Im not saying he is or isn't on aything but his spotlight on the track was there many years before 100m. He was a 200-400m Sprinter. Auto.. he have the speed just convert training into shorter sprints.

  • @LRel2 I just saw a documentary about bolt the fastest man ever to live by michael johnson and bbc. You are absolutely right, and i am alot less suspicious of him after seeing that movie. Granted it's still possible, but Bolt has been a phenom since a young age and yes, he seems laid back, so once he actually started training, i could see it make a big difference. He really is like an Alien from Jamaica, he's not human. Scary thing was in the movie, they were saying his technique was not good

  • @TheAngeltoDemon They're ruining Bolt's form, why he was so fast had nothing to do with technique, it was just the way he naturally ran. Now they've bulked him up and got him running stiff and precise like a classic 100 runner, and now he's not as fast.

  • @kozmon0t

I agree with you, something is definitely going on with the Bolt. Man, if you look at his 2008/2009 championship performances, it was truly a mockery of the event, and embarrasment of speed and talent. The bulking up was a mistake, and i have no idea now why he is so damn self concious about his start, even if he were a step or two behind from the start, he used to take 3-4 powerful strides at around the 50-60m mark that would quickly seperate him from the back.

  • 0:32-0:41...that is the face of winners....

  • It's "The Scream"!

  • Hahahaha, you found words for me!

  • i met Donovan a few days ago, we went golfing. he gave us a signed golf ball

  • Not true.. Jeremy Warner is in the top 30 of tat list, and El guerrouj, also Yuriy Borzakovsky is fast.. lol You made tis ** Up.

  • he was talking about the 100m, jeremy wariner and the people you mentioned dont even run the 100

  • did u know that the top 50 fastest men are all black (not a single white/arab/hispanic or asian man in 100m)

  • best alltime eh

  • the best is when he finished the race glanced to his left saw the world record time and his reaction was pricelesss, i was proud to be canadian on that night

  • JAMAICA we seh!!!

  • usain bolt was actuly only the 4th jamacin

born sprinter to cross the line first since 1988, 1988: ben johnson (he still crossed the line first), 1992: linford cristie, 1996 donovan bailey and 2008 usain bolt. all of them jamacin born

  • 9.84, very good. In this race he ran 27.1mph fastest top end speed in history.

  • Did Canada erect a statue at their national stadium for him? I bet if he was Canadian born they would have.

  • What "national stadium"? Donovan Bailey is BELOVED in Canada - statue or no statue.

  • @bgee4 It has nothing to do with Donovan being from Jamaica. The only athlete who gets major props in Canada is Gretzky. Clara Hughes, Canadian born, has won every colour Olympic medals come in, AND has medaled in both Summer AND Winter Olympics, and I doubt she even got a call from the Prime Minister. The best any of them can hope for is to live to 100 and get a letter from the Queen! (That woman will outlive us all!)

  • Ahahaha ya but when he saw the clock he realized it was a world record so he went bananas lol. Probably the best reaction to a world record and gold medal in the history of the Olympics lmao.

  • that face was super scary...but so cool at the same time XD

  • apparantly he went through 60m at 27.1 miles per hour - the fastest speed ever reached by a human being

  • I love that reaction to GOLD! One of the best celebrations of all time!

  • hahah

  • Love his face at the end ! LOL

  • 0:26 demon face

  • hahaha

  • wtf is he doing

  • he just accomplished something only a few humans have ever done... i dont expect you to understand.

  • he was the fastest man in the world in 1996, and nothing you can say will ever change that...

  • @razzbc another jamaican

  • wow you're cool

  • dude ur not jamaican so u cant say that i support johnson and bailey cuz im canadian tyson gay came 5th in the semifinal

  • lol white sprinters they suck they never win shit in the 100meters

  • Man Bolton (sp?) had it in the bag until about 20m to go. Such a classic race.

  • linford being removed from this was shocking

  • I so remember this. One of the greatest Canadian moments.

And Donovan Bailey won this fair and square. That was Ben Johnson who got in trouble in 1988.

  • Best. Winning. Reaction. EVAR!

  • best 100m final ever. his face when he sees the time is class

  • I was watching it live and its the most spectacular 100m race in history.

  • ... not any more

  • what a bad start, but he had and still gets the WR for highest speed for a human

  • That was BEN JOHNSON and he got caught in 1988. The winner in this video is DONOVAN BAILEY and this was in 1996.

  • awesome camera angle

  • yes....the best 100m final on the olympics

  • no he didn't u idiot

  • you're an idiot

Bailey wasnt on steroids. That would be Ben Johnson, who won back in the '88 Olympics

great comment by another stubborn, stuck-up american

  • @RJ8812 omg will u shut up and stop putting people in the same class one american doest represent all. anways if americans sucked at track this wouldnt be a problem jamaicans are the second most caught dopeing country, and the rest dont matter because they arent good, so of course you wont here about chinese or some other country tsking steroids for 100 meters because they are not imporant for the 100 meters.

  • @RJ8812 Wow, lets just lump all American's in one group. Go enjoy your crap health care.

  • @voted4bush AHAHAHHA! Canada has one of the best health care plans in the world! An american jabbing at another country's health care plan! that's priceless!

  • @RJ8812 If Canada has, "one of the best health care plans in the world!" then we're all in trouble or they also have one of the highest rates of mental illness in the world too.

  • @voted4bush Just your name alone is enough to tell me you are one fat bastard. You better pray you get health care - you're gonna need it once the diabetes kicks in and you have that first heart attack. I'm over 50 and still wear a size 4. Know why I stay so slim? So people won't think I'm American when I travel.

  • @two9ertango ha ha, another falls into the trap of the name. It weeds out lying freedom haters like yourself. You say you're 50, your profile disagrees. You need to stop forcing your fantasies on other people, unfortunately for your dream, I'm not overweight, I don't think I'd be a varsity member of a collegiate cross country team if I fit your delusion. (hence why my interests are 5/9ish athletics.)

  • @voted4bush I fail to see where you think I hate freedom. Canada is probably the freest nation in the world. (Well, the Nordic countries are pretty liberal too.)

Of course I lied on my profile. I don't live in the U.K. either. How many 29 year olds do you really think there are on here? I'm already planning on being a precocious 6 year old on my next account.

But I really am a skinny 53 year old bitch. I still fit into my high school uniform. Write me again in 20 years :)

  • @two9ertango Actually, I'd say third world countries are the most free countries because they don't even have laws. Freedom for the common man to do what he wishes is what I'm counting as freedom, not freedom of the government to do what it wishes with the people despite their rights (that's the difference between Canada and the US, for now at least). Your untruthful maneuver destroys any credibility you had left. There are plenty of 29yr olds on YT.

  • @voted4bush Have you considered moving to Somalia? They are so third-world that they currently don't even have a government. Anarchy in the streets AND on the high seas. What fun! And I hear Mogadishu is lovely this time of year.

  • @two9ertango You're hilarious (sarcasm), surely a product of your aged experience. This is a good example of why Americans get so tired of Canadians. You miss jokes, get all butthurt when we tease you, act like the bunch of elitist nimrods you are, then sell t-shirts that show Maple Leafs and Stars & Stripes in complete harmony. Make up your mind whether you like us or not, then we can settle this the old fashioned way.

  • @voted4bush Took you a day to think of that? I am hilarious (true). Hell, I was funny in the womb. Most Canadians wish there was a DMZ between our borders - it feels icky touching your country. (It's why I thank God daily we have so much fresh water & hand sanitizer.)

I have never seen a Canuck wear a T-shirt that is 1/2 our flag/1/2 yours. Never, ever, not even once. Must be a U.S. thing. You can't get away with wearing the full Maple Leafs T's cause you're all too fat to pass for us.

  • @voted4bush Ah, we meet again. What an interesting turn of phrase. "lumping all Americans in one group". Actually, we have two for you: obese and ignorant.

  • @two9ertango I guess it is common for people to resort to made up personal attacks when they're full of it and have no argument. As for my first post about Canada's Health (he he) care, take a joke you stuck up elitist, negative, nancy.

  • @voted4bush I ran out of room on the last comment, but I just wanted to say I'm bored with you. Post whatever comments you want, but I won't be replying.

    Negative Nancy is signing off!

  • @two9ertango Typical Canadian cowardice, post and run ya' looney.

  • @RJ8812 And let's not forget that Carl "I'm Shocked That Ben Johnson Cheated" Lewis of the U,S, was juicing too. The US Olympic Committee was able to suppress his positive test results. That fucking hypocrite!

  • @RJ8812 That is Atlanta Olympics. Everybody was on something.

  • @ilkkavu - oh really, you got proof of that? Frickin ridiculous.

  • @ilkkavu No not everyone was doped in 96, all you ignorant haters do is talk shit but wheres ur proof? You got none!

  • @ilkkavu If everyone was on something, then it was all fair, right? Many would say everyone was on something even back in '88. In fact, it came out later that Carl Lewis was definitely doping at that time, and he retains the gold medal that was stripped of Ben Johnson at those Olympics.

  • @tml4873 Yes, it still burns my ass that Carl was such a finger-pointing baby, all the while juicing right along with Ben. He was caught, but the results were suppressed for years. And why the hell does he still have ANY of his tainted medals?

  • The best 100m I have ever seen.
