Somebody should post the original Makassy songs recorded in Dar es Salaam in the late 1970s and early 1980s. These low-quality recordings done in Nairobi are not anywhere near the original hits recorded in Tanzania.
Mwana Cogo is not listed as a guitarist on this LP. Aimala Mbutu and Alfani Uvuruge are credited with the superb and sublime lead guitar work on the vinyl disc.

love this, heard this as a kid on kershaw's spot on r1....reminds me a little of something i taped of the same show from the then zaire from a bloke called mastamwana congo (spelling???) called la journess (spelling???), could anyone direct me to that masterpiece, would be great, thx
Guitar reaches sublime anchorage in waters that bleed syncopation. The venerable and tangible whistling capability of lead lines make rock and funk feel like 13th century Church music (good at what it does, but not for body rocking) I thank you for this oh sons of Makassy
wacha we , bali ule aliouimba dr remmy ni bora zaidi tena uetulia anyway yote ni moja safi sana , natamani miaka irudi nyuma

Master Mwana Cogo, guitarist par excellence. He was the king of the tremelo arm. Got vinyl still- might try to upload someday.
This zips - guitar lead is the essence of the rhythm and interesting bass line too1
