I used to listen to this back in my Boarding School days at Tuba City. I remember my sister singing this coming home from the dorms. most of the girls were singing it all the time. it was like a theme for boarding school. It brings back lots of memories of my youth. awww. *
i recall performing this song and series of movements in my high school days. early 80s rainy river high, west fort high and community groups... we were well received. my first EVER public performance. :) it also reminds me of Garnet ... :)
Do you know if there is an schoolaship for being part of the lamanite generation? I want to be part of it by the time I get accepted. I am from mx by the way
My neice loves this song so much that she did the sign language for her talent n she won high school princess. She also talked about this song and what she think it ment to her n her people. It was so awesome!!
Reminds me of home, how I miss the Hopi/Dine Reservation. But school needs to be finished first. Where can I find the music sheets for the song? The link does not work.
ha ha this from a mormon religion that teaches that natives are a cursed people and need to become white like a whiteman! stupid to believe these LIES! I like my native brown skin it is you "mormons" who are cursed. another whiteman religion trying to put down native american history and heritage! pathetic!
These cast members are not white. They are BYU students and Mormons, but it just so happens that in order to be a cast member of Living Legends you have to be Polynesian, Native American or Latin American.
haha thats leland in the beginning! i don't know how many times i've seen living legends perform every year for heritage week... they always do a good job!
My father was Cherokee, but I am adopted, and was born without Indian blood, so I can never be accepted as a Cherokee.
Never the less, I don't know why, but when I first heard this song, I was moved to tears of pride, hope, and joy.
As a student at Brigham Young University, I learned the song, and now you can see my own amateur version on YOU TUBE, which admittedly, doesn't begin to compare with this.

wow so not only did we annihilate the native Americans from the face of the country along with all their hopes and dreams... but we also hijacked their culture and romanticized the hell out of it as if it were a cute little kitteh
i remember when living legends came up here to alaska like 3years ago or something and the girl who sang this song.....her voice wayy good! &i loved this song after hearing her & them sing this song
Im always amazed at how far this song has gone. I have watched it as i have grown. It was what my mother taught me when i was little. I was always mad at my brother cuz it said go my son .. why didnt it say go my daughters since the co writter of this song had more daughters than she had sons ... maybe cuz we dont sing like her...lol... love you mom

I adore this performance. I remember when I was in Illinois, Living Legends came to Nauvoo. Went to see it four times because I was so impressed with it.
When Living Legends came up to Alaska, i was so impressed with their performance. My father performed with the Living Legends (back then it was called The Lamanite Generation) back in his early college days.
Looks like everyone has had this in their early years of education...I did too...such a beautiful song as I remember it. Thx to great music from BYU for posting it. 5/5
Hi qualqui, your spirit never grows old, just your shell does....funny how I feel that way sometime and yet I haven't accept the growing old part of me...lol.
Both my Sisters, Pat and Kathy, were apart of this, back in the day, when it was the "LAMINITE GENERATION" now it is the "Living Legends". It is still Awesome. My Daughter, did this sign language for the Graduation Class of 1999. I beaded her Eagle Feather for her cap. I'm very proud, of my Native American culture. I wish I could see the Living Legends. Keep it up!!!
