I've had some friends who were cheering on for HD-DVD when I was rooting for Blu-ray. Turns out I chose the winning horse!
Although, it makes me kind of sad for HD-DVD. Especially Universal, who was exclusively supporting the format. I got the HD-DVD add-on for my Xbox 360 just to watch Universal and other exclusive movies. Sad choice, looking back, but still makes a cool collector's item! And there are many people who like obscure formats that still cherish HD-DVD!
@RkivUnderground It's not like one format really had a big picture quality advantage... OK, so for REALLY long movies, BD would look slightly better, but it's not huge. For that reason, I don't really miss HD DVD. The only problem with BD was the high prices, and those have come down now, so it's all good!
But the technology that went into old DVD player's as apposed today was much easier to come by than HD laser's and stuff. I can't see much happening to the price of top quality Blu-Ray player's because what goes into them is not nearly cheaper than what you would buy one for.
tysondm007: BD prices will fall in the same way that DVD did. In 1996 when DVD launched, MPEG-2 decoding and the laser required to read the disk was cutting edge technology.
Yea, why won't Universal do Blu Ray? I know why Paramount won't because they were bribed into it, but still, by the time BD wins the war, Para will eventualy give in and the rumors that WB will go BD exclusive makes it all the more sweeter.
Actually I'd disagree, it looks good but there's far too much edge enhancement - look at the ringing around the signs in the desert near the start. Serenity and Corpse Bride (shame about the film) are still my favourite looking discs.
hey great clip. I got the same film on HD-DVD. FLLV has got to be one of the true reference titles. The arrival at the vegas strip with the lights is some of the greatest HD material i've ever seen

I gotta start a petition to get this music to play at Universal Orlando and Hollywood.

@RkivUnderground You know, I went there after CES in early 2010 and I thought that the music they played at the park entrance is similar to this.

That was the case with DVD when it was first invented, but now it's a different story. It's going to be the same thing with Blu-ray in a few years.

I wouldn't even say a few years, I'd say a few months. The price in many Blu-Rays has droped a lot.
BloodXHawk 3 years ago
I don't see why the players should, too, although I don't know how long that will be. Right now I've seen them at $399.

I bet by Christmas this year, Blu-ray players and DVD's will have a major price drop.

When BetaMax came out VCRs Reg DVD also $1000.00 just the way Technology is as time goes on it's cheaper then becomes obsolete.
