The big one-off ones are the biggest but those are expensive and unreliable. Serial production models such as the above one are much much cheaper but more efficient overall.
it is a shovel not an excavator but they also arnt the largest in the world the mines of northern minnesota have some of the biggest dump trucks in the world my grandpa was a diesel mechanic on those trucks for most of his life. plus i live in the town that this footage was shot.
@jkallinen That's a Bucyrus 295 BII, it's never been the largest. The P&H 2800 was introduced 3 years before the 295, weighed around 300 tons more, and swung a bucket that was larger by about 4 to 9 yards depending on how it was spec'd out.
@jkallinen Yeah, but the point I am trying to get across here, is the 295 is not a really large shovel, and it has never been the biggest. When it was introduced, there were already bigger shovels. In 2006, there were considerably larger shovels than that 295, so whoever told you that was the biggest, sold you a pile of trash. I run a shovel built in 1997 that weighs more than twice what the 295 weighs, and swings a bucket that is more than twice as big.
@deanandkerin This is not an excavator at all so it can not be the worlds largest excavator,. tHIS IS WHAT IS KNOWEN AS A SHOVEL. an excavator pulls its load to it like a back hoe. a shovel pushes its load away then lifts it.
