  • Given the number of times this was magnified and the clarity of the magnified image, the camera that took it had to have been several hundred gigapixels in photosensor resolution, with one hell of an optic system, and the printer that did the printing would have been one hell of a hi-res printer (several million DPI)...I want!!

Wait, is that even possible, now or in the future?

FYI IMAX cameras are roughly 96 Megapixels

  • Uncrop!? Bahahahahahaha!

  • @WASSAPBLAD Google's latest project: Google Uncrop

  • LMAO

  • uncrop hahaha

  • Crichton must have infinite monkeys inside of him to perform the 'uncrop'! XD

Hilarious clip. The deadpan humor makes this excellent!

Thanks for posting this clip, Appoxie.

  • Eat this csi

  • That was pretty funny. I don't care what you other smegheads think.

  • Parodying Blade Runner?

  • @Zingo33

That was my first thought also. It is very similar to Deckard's "Enhance, Rotate, Crop" sequence from early in BR.

  • lol it's funny because it's true XD

Though I do think Red Dwarf was missing something without the laughter track.

  • What are you all whining about, this is pretty awesome. Obviously the photo was taken with a 2 terapixel camera. Go watch CSI if you want REAL science.

  • Genius, it's only a matter of time before we have this technology. Maybe less than 10 years.

  • @jewellui that is one of the most retarded things ive ever heard in my life

  • @WASSAPBLAD I agree.

  • @WASSAPBLAD I think he maybe trolling.

  • LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL

  • must admit the second half is hands-down brilliant :-|

  • When did they stop using canned laughter?

  • had me at uncrop. hahahaha.

  • >Uncrop

    BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHHAHAHAHAHAHA

O wow, I completely lost it. This is awesome.

  • Zoom ALL the things!

  • @EMPPT stop

  • Seriously guys, have you ever used the uncrop tool in Photoshop CS4? Its great, except when sometimes it tends to put lousy hidden messages

  • hahahaha "uncrop"

  • I must have missed this CSI episode...

  • @Haedrian This is not a reference to CSI but rather to Blade Runner, Deckard did similar thing on his small-ass TV. Besides, this entire episode was a homage to Blade Runner, it's packed with references.

  • Awesome!

  • I want to shoot myself now.

  • This and CSI: it's like I'm seeing double.

  • @jpelczar thisis making fun of csi

  • This video single-handedly makes me want to stop my career now and be an investigator.

  • Ha! This is the best thing I've seen all day! I REALLY wish it actually worked this way!

  • wtf is on his head?

  • @backtodecember13 If your talking about the guy with the H it just there to show he is a hologram

  • My god, the "uncrop" effect gets me every time.

  • uncrop

  • so what's the resolution of that picture?

  • Huh, isn't that the guy from Robot wars? xD

  • @FireMonkeyX

That's the point. It's parodying shows doing image enhancement and crap.

  • Comment removed

  • with uncropping it was too easy.

  • Uncrop.... Seriously?

  • UNCROP! I love it.

  • All they had to do was look in the reflection of the window/door behind them.....

  • @darkmordon But it's not as cool!

  • Hey guys what CSI series is this from?

  • UNCROP? FLIP THE PICTURE IN 3 DIMENSIONAL SPACE 180 DEGREES? WHAT THE FLIPPING SHIT

  • Uncrop.

  • kassem g rip off

  • @1King2Queens3Jacks yep, this clip from a science fiction tv show, which aired on tv years ago, copied a video from a shitty youtube comedian... from the future

  • @TitaniumToothpaste sorry i meant your video is shitty as phuck and ksaeem rules

  • fixed it.

  • the video is screen for some reason.

  • It burns.

  • Technology.

  • FLOP.

  • Ouch , an A3 (297*420) out of your a## that is indeed very painful, even more so when it's folded (all those sharp angles) it rips your intestinal tract to pieces.

  • so is this possible???

  • i love it!

  • holy crap, they did the same thing in csi last night

  • I wonder who are those 18 humourless jokeless little adolf hitlers that disliked this?

  • @Indrius your mom

  • @Indrius Actually, Adolf Hitler was far from humourless. Featuring among his favourite films were Charlie Chaplin's "The Great Dictator", which shows a fair amount of self-distance. It says so in the DVD commentary anyway :P

  • "Flop."

  • The back of that card is almost microscopic in the picture. Its like Inception!

  • BLADE RUNNER DID IT! <---- BTW best science fiction movie EVAR!

  • This was my favorite part.

  • nose world

  • Ignoring the whole "uncrop" thing, they got all that from a water drop's reflection?

  • @angelnoir9 They got all that from the reflection on his forehead, the water drop was on the post reflected off his forehead.

  • @angelnoir9 No,they got it off a glass door, that was reflected off a water drop, that was reflected off the H.

  • Where I can buy one of these 30 Petapixels cameras?

  • My business... (puts on glasses) Is their Showbusiness...

    YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

  • Need to go deeper.

  • Yeah it's a parody of Bladerunner not CSI...

  • lmfao wat

  • slashdot wins.

  • AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

  • As IF Rimmer would come out with anything like that, even if it WERE physically possible. XD

  • good job lol :D

  • So much information contained in one image.

  • As someone who has worked as a digital image analyst since 1986, I can tell you this is absolutely accurate.

  • @versatilias

The part where you can actually do this, or the part where you're constantly asked to do this in your job?

  • @versatilias You're full of shit.

  • @MrHomeChef Maybe they could use some of that CSI technology to "enhance" your sense of sarcasm.

  • @MrHomeChef You're full of fail.

  • @Vash002 I failed when I didn't help your mom pay for her abortion.

  • @MrHomeChef Easy and lame. Get better taunts.

  • @MrHomeChef hey fuckin asshole... do you not know what a joke is??? grow the fuck up or get the fuck out!!!

  • @versatilias A joke would have worked. He's an idiot, just like you. Now make me a Slurpee, Apu.

  • @MrHomeChef u do know that ur juss a troll trying to get some recogition by hopping on my comment.... since mine has the most thumbs up??? ur too stupid to understand jokes so u have to tag-a-long mine... what a leg hanger... if u don't like something... dont watch it... ez as that... well... i guess haterz gotta hate... it's a 24/7 job huh??? doesn't get tiring??? lolz... well... feel free to hate on me if it makes your life a lil easier... hahaha...

  • Kassam G was here lol

  • kassm's version is alot better

  • @Joshalots better or not he plagarized

  • @joeratti is it possible they just had similar ideas maybe? -shrugs-

  • Crap, they had me at Uncrop

  • I think this is more of joke from Enemy of the State than CSI

  • bahaha Uncrop, and zooming in on a reflection from A DROP OF WATER on a lamp post . hahaha

  • You had me at "Uncrop"

  • that was amazing

  • Flop.

  • OMG - It's exactly what some people expect from forensic science. LOL

  • From which episode of which season is this joke? I remember watching this show in a catalan (I'm from Catalunya, Spain) TV channel in the first 90s and the actors looked a lot younger. Is this one of the last seasons, or a movie based in the series?

  • @akualung It's actually from a three part special ("Back To Earth"), filmed in 2009 and shown in 2010, for British cable TV channel Dave rather than the BBC. It's probably not been shown outside the UK yet.

  • @keda1981 It was shown in Australia on the ABC last year.

  • That picture has got to have OVER 9000 TERAPIXELS

  • @abacusasian I can't believe it took me that ong to get that. Good job.

  • Uncrop..pure genius!

  • Red Dwarf is the best!

  • Hahahahahahaah! Uncrop! Priceless! xDDDD

  • Everyone knows Blade Runner did this the best :P

  • Its like Inception with digital enhancements

  • 0_o

  • @TheShamanastic That's the joke. lol.

  • @TheShamanastic thatsthejoke.jpg

  • LOL at uncrop

  • What's the total zoom? Over 9000, I'm sure.

  • I'm pretty sure this is an actual CSI episode.

  • @TheRuiner66 Did they have effeminate walking tincans in CSI?

  • Using the uncrop technology, we could find out how big the universe is!

  • You can do a pretty decent uncrop in CS5 to be honest lol

    It is actually very impressive.

  • @chrisybwell

Yeah, by the time people and producers understand this shit doesn't work IRL, it will.

  • @levlobotomy Im pretty sure the producers here were well aware that this is impossible

  • IT'S LIKE I'M REALLY WATCHING CSI.

  • @MrAperaturescience Naah, this was better.

  • @MrAperaturescience

    Or Blade Runner!

  • We all know that uncrop in this instance is physically impossible... but according to the making of, it actually came about because the visual effects department found that they needed to add the man holding the business card to the picture, but by the time they realised, the scene had already been shot using the original picture as a prop. The effects director considered pain stakingly match-moving the correct image over the one seen in the scene, but Doug Naylor just said "uncrop" instead.

  • To be fair guys the latest photoshop DOES have uncrop.

  • @Idiomatick but you cropped the source.

Your source in this clip is already cropped.

  • Holy Shit

  • UNCROP!

  • 16 people tried to UNCROP in PHOTOSHOP XD

  • LOL

  • reminds me of in supertroopers, when they are 'enhancing' the image!

  • @freeradicals "JUST PRINT THE DAMN THING!"

    XD

  • @Kl4pp5tuhl hahahaha! Classic.

  • Haha ;) Fun to see ones old vfx work find it's way onto the intertubes...

  • UNCROP! yay for Red Dwarf :)

  • What the fuck? Hilarious lol

  • In fact I believe it all started with Blade Runner:)

  • @vektor330 maybe

  • @vektor330 At least Blade Runner got it right because they zoomed in on a non-digital paper photograph. Even photographs from the beginning of the 20th century had more detail than the best today's digital cameras can achieve.

  • @nextghost Actually, that's hardly true. If you take into account sharpness and colour (and not only pixel count), I would wager that most facebook-cellphone pictures have more detail than 100 year old photos. Nowadays, very large film (8x10") has a resolution of 800Mpix, but then again, there's a digital picture of Budapest of 70 gigapixel! That's nearly a thousand times more detail! Also, "zooming in" only allows to see the max quality of the scanner, not the film photograph.

  • @crashanddie Actually, one of the first tests of Einstein's theory of relativity was a photograph of full solar eclipse which clearly showed stars concealed by sun thanks to gravitational lense effect. That was almost 100 years ago. If you ask scientist who photograph solar eclipses today (for example Miloslav Druckmüller who told me about this), they'll tell you that this kind of detail is still way beyond the best digital cameras.

  • @nextghost And I, as a photographer, tell you can't just dismiss digital in favour of film, especially if you compare technologies a century apart. You can photograph solar eclipses without any problem at all. Heck, there are plenty of people who do it with cheapo USB webcams. Look up Pete Lawrence for more information. Let's also not forget you can get 50 or 80Mpix cameras these days, which kicks the butt of most medium-format developed in normal shops.

  • @crashanddie I don't dismiss digital in favour of film. I'm just saying that digital has a long way to go until it catches up with state of art film. Right now camera makers try to stuff more and more pixels on chips of the same size. But 10Mpix is the best you can get on chip that small. Unless the chip gets bigger, you're just adding noise and not detail.

  • @nextghost mate, you can get 25MP Sony cameras (the ones used for the Budapest 70GP picture), or just take a canon 5d mk 2, which gives you 21MP. Mamiya also makes a 33MP camera that offers a 36 x 44 mm sensor, almost double of current full frame professional DSLRs. That gives you pixels of 7.2 microns. It's obviously a $20k camera, but still, unprecedented quality. Such large pixels will give incredible richness and detail, hard to beat with any kind of film camera.

  • @crashanddie The only way they can achieve that level of detail is by taking hundreds of pictures from multiple cameras and then have computer crunch on those pictures for several days. The picture of Budapest is also composed of thousands of small pictures joined together in computer.

And yes, how far you can zoom in depends on the scanner. But scanners can have multiple lenses with different levels of optical zoom all the way to microscope magnification.

  • even if this wasn't poking a little fun at one thing or another, this scene is still cleverly funny

  • spoof of enemy of the state with will smith.

  • this reminds me of the part in the ring where they watch the video and then somehow pan right to see something off camera

  • @mastersniper117117 but it was used in the right context!

  • UNCROP!

  • I like how uncrop actually exists now

  • @superpope99 Only if you cropped it first and it's still a .psd file. Once you export it as any image format (jpeg, bmp, png, etc), you can't uncrop. This should be pretty apparent unless you're an idiot.

Police dramas make up all their enhance shit up.

  • Yeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!

  • Lol! Because the original photo TOTALLY had the resolution to pick up 3 reflections!

  • @Astronouth7303 Thats the joke

  • LOL, it starts with uncrop....

  • i lold non stop from uncrop

  • blimey! fukn hilarious ya

  • UNCROP! LOL!!!

  • Why do people call Rimmer stupid? I think he's actually pretty smart at times.

  • @Timesobserver he's a smeg head!!!

  • @Buttmunch5000

Yes, he is a smeg head, but still, sometimes he can be smart too.

  • lol

  • flop

  • They would've been better off building a GUI interface using Visual Basic to track the killer's IP address.

  • The resolution isnt very good.

  • Did you guys see Photoshop CS5 Content aware replace and delete? They've invented Uncrop O.o
