Given the number of times this was magnified and the clarity of the magnified image, the camera that took it had to have been several hundred gigapixels in photosensor resolution, with one hell of an optic system, and the printer that did the printing would have been one hell of a hi-res printer (several million DPI)...I want!!
Wait, is that even possible, now or in the future?
What are you all whining about, this is pretty awesome. Obviously the photo was taken with a 2 terapixel camera. Go watch CSI if you want REAL science.
@Haedrian This is not a reference to CSI but rather to Blade Runner, Deckard did similar thing on his small-ass TV. Besides, this entire episode was a homage to Blade Runner, it's packed with references.
@1King2Queens3Jacks yep, this clip from a science fiction tv show, which aired on tv years ago, copied a video from a shitty youtube comedian... from the future
Ouch , an A3 (297*420) out of your a## that is indeed very painful, even more so when it's folded (all those sharp angles) it rips your intestinal tract to pieces.
@Indrius Actually, Adolf Hitler was far from humourless. Featuring among his favourite films were Charlie Chaplin's "The Great Dictator", which shows a fair amount of self-distance. It says so in the DVD commentary anyway :P
@MrHomeChef u do know that ur juss a troll trying to get some recogition by hopping on my comment.... since mine has the most thumbs up??? ur too stupid to understand jokes so u have to tag-a-long mine... what a leg hanger... if u don't like something... dont watch it... ez as that... well... i guess haterz gotta hate... it's a 24/7 job huh??? doesn't get tiring??? lolz... well... feel free to hate on me if it makes your life a lil easier... hahaha...
From which episode of which season is this joke? I remember watching this show in a catalan (I'm from Catalunya, Spain) TV channel in the first 90s and the actors looked a lot younger. Is this one of the last seasons, or a movie based in the series?
@akualung It's actually from a three part special ("Back To Earth"), filmed in 2009 and shown in 2010, for British cable TV channel Dave rather than the BBC. It's probably not been shown outside the UK yet.
We all know that uncrop in this instance is physically impossible... but according to the making of, it actually came about because the visual effects department found that they needed to add the man holding the business card to the picture, but by the time they realised, the scene had already been shot using the original picture as a prop. The effects director considered pain stakingly match-moving the correct image over the one seen in the scene, but Doug Naylor just said "uncrop" instead.
@vektor330 At least Blade Runner got it right because they zoomed in on a non-digital paper photograph. Even photographs from the beginning of the 20th century had more detail than the best today's digital cameras can achieve.
@nextghost Actually, that's hardly true. If you take into account sharpness and colour (and not only pixel count), I would wager that most facebook-cellphone pictures have more detail than 100 year old photos. Nowadays, very large film (8x10") has a resolution of 800Mpix, but then again, there's a digital picture of Budapest of 70 gigapixel! That's nearly a thousand times more detail! Also, "zooming in" only allows to see the max quality of the scanner, not the film photograph.
@crashanddie Actually, one of the first tests of Einstein's theory of relativity was a photograph of full solar eclipse which clearly showed stars concealed by sun thanks to gravitational lense effect. That was almost 100 years ago. If you ask scientist who photograph solar eclipses today (for example Miloslav Druckmüller who told me about this), they'll tell you that this kind of detail is still way beyond the best digital cameras.
@nextghost And I, as a photographer, tell you can't just dismiss digital in favour of film, especially if you compare technologies a century apart. You can photograph solar eclipses without any problem at all. Heck, there are plenty of people who do it with cheapo USB webcams. Look up Pete Lawrence for more information. Let's also not forget you can get 50 or 80Mpix cameras these days, which kicks the butt of most medium-format developed in normal shops.
@crashanddie I don't dismiss digital in favour of film. I'm just saying that digital has a long way to go until it catches up with state of art film. Right now camera makers try to stuff more and more pixels on chips of the same size. But 10Mpix is the best you can get on chip that small. Unless the chip gets bigger, you're just adding noise and not detail.
@nextghost mate, you can get 25MP Sony cameras (the ones used for the Budapest 70GP picture), or just take a canon 5d mk 2, which gives you 21MP. Mamiya also makes a 33MP camera that offers a 36 x 44 mm sensor, almost double of current full frame professional DSLRs. That gives you pixels of 7.2 microns. It's obviously a $20k camera, but still, unprecedented quality. Such large pixels will give incredible richness and detail, hard to beat with any kind of film camera.
@crashanddie The only way they can achieve that level of detail is by taking hundreds of pictures from multiple cameras and then have computer crunch on those pictures for several days. The picture of Budapest is also composed of thousands of small pictures joined together in computer.
And yes, how far you can zoom in depends on the scanner. But scanners can have multiple lenses with different levels of optical zoom all the way to microscope magnification.
@superpope99 Only if you cropped it first and it's still a .psd file. Once you export it as any image format (jpeg, bmp, png, etc), you can't uncrop. This should be pretty apparent unless you're an idiot.
