@avelasco425 My hair has never been damaged by using 40 volume. I wouldn't recommend it for unhealthy hair types though. A 20 volume developer doesn't do well for dark hair. It just doesn't have enough lift. Also, if you use it and it doesn't lift well, you'd have to process again. Most women don't have a hooded dryer in their homes so suggesting that they use a dryer isn't practical. Women with blonde or light brown hair can successfully use a 20 volume peroxide. XO Carolyn
@FairiousSolana Red is such a bitch to get out. I had red in my hair and it took me 3 bleaching sessions to get rid of it, and turn it blonde instead. It's the hardest colour to dye to blonde. Just keep getting it done, is my advice.
That is a matter of opinion. I like to mix the peroxide until the bleach looks like its the right consistency. Its how I was taught and works like a charm. 40 volume will NOT damage your hair if you use it correctly and keep a careful watch on your hair! BTW, its peroxide, not porixide!
@marisol5loves5dave I would say 40 is pushing it if you are going for the Gwen Steffani peroxide blond. I am now a white blond and have had a lot of damage from overprocessing to achieve the lady ga ga white and I only use 30. I've heard they make a 50 and a 60 level now! jees!
Most of the time, you use 40 volume peroxide with bleach. It lifts the quickest. However... if you have lighter colored hair already and are going for light blonde highlights, you might consider using a lower volume peroxide. What color hair do you have and what color highlights do you want? I'll help make a suggestion if you like. XO Carolyn
Hi! thank u for ur videos are very useful!, im doing highlights like u (with a cap) and bleach powder, but the bleach doesnt have developer so i have to buy, but looking around here in my area, they just have 9% peroxide :S, do u think if I mix two of those small bottles of 9% i'll get an 18% peroxide?? my hair is like brown it has dye on it... so, and also i dont want so blonde whitish highlights.. plz help me :( thanks!
No sweetie. That won't work unfortunately. (9% + 9% does not equal 18%.) You'll need to buy some 40% possibly online or find a shop in a neighboring area that has a Beauty Supply store. 9% just won't give you the lift you need.
I am not saying you'll need 40%, but thats the most economical way to buy it. You can dilute it to make 20% if thats what you want to try first. If you have dark brown color in your hair, you will need 40%. Bleach never comes with developer. XO Carolyn
Hi!! Im doing the impossible to get that developer thing!! i have been looking so much, but here (in asia) they just sell those kind of products to beauty salon owners or, they just sell in big quantities, so i was wondering if the small developer that comes inside any dye box 4 xmple, revlon, loreal etc, that small bottle would work with the bleach powder and the higlights i want to get??
For less damage - it is safe to use a 20 vol. Under the dryer on low. It will take a bit longer but better results. With less damage.

@Nicolerulezlife You can do it either way. Its just easier for me (personally) to start at the top... and work down.
