  • I would need a thesaurus to get all of the words to describe this man's brilliance!

Talent, musicianship, singing ability, and the genius to use it all simultaneously, now this is why I became a musician, to be around people like this!

  • Who could dislike something as powerful and as emotionally driven such as this? Fools, go back to your meaningless pop music, leave our great jazz standards alone!

  • Not only is the composition by Ivan Lins incredible as always. The lyrics by Vitor Martins are brilliant. It's about the very underrated importance of a comedian/clown.. someone not really taken seriously in real life. The line: "Quem terá esse trabalho louvado, quem terá esse destino sagrado, p'ra fazer minha gente feliz novamente?" Is very touching and so true: "Who would have this blessed task, who would have this sacred destiny to make my people happy again?" - Very touching in Portuguese.

  • portuguese, he's brazilian

  • have the harlequin album....so amazing

  • Ahh this is just the music, I'm in to. The guy sings with pure soul. But what language is this ?

  • The Power Of Great Music, with incredible Musicians, just listen to the Great Abraham Laboriel on Bass, Simple Majestic, yet Humble.

  • @mabonga1001 - Yes he is a great man from what I hear - a devoted Christian and seriously one of the most enjoyable bassists to hear (and watch!). My wife actually got to play on an album that he recorded on from Brazil some years ago.

  • Metropolis by Manhattan Transfer was Ivan's composition here.

  • I believe i still have the cassette!! they're all awesome musicians, kinda remind me of my Dad, he passed away last year and we like to hear jazz together :( the song really made me missed him so much

  • I LOVE THIS MAN!!!!!!!!!!

  • In Harlequin, Ivan Lins demonstrates a level of emotion and passion that is just explosive. Fireworks in the making. Ivan may have lost some of the pipes he had when he was young, but continues to be the top Brazilian artists of our generation. His music is a thing of beauty, about love, disappointment, sadness, making up. I just love what he does.

  • @cabrone5555 I really loved they way you commented

  • @cabrone5555 I loved the way you commented

  • I am glad some people can understand the great creativity and musicality that is recorded live here!!!

Music is sound and silence....two master off the craft of doing it. It seems complicated but is not!!!! Feelings all over.

    Great musicians!!!!

    Love...

    PB

  • Quem brincará, Quem dançará, Quem sairá de Arlequim? Quem tocará, Quem chorará, Quem gemerá seu bandolim? Quem terá encarnado a sua alegria? Quem terá ensaiado a sua folia? Quem terá o trabalho louvado, Quem terá o destino sagrado, Pra fazer minha gente feliz novamente? Quem terá a ousadia que tem o palhaço? Quem terá seu encanto, seu riso tão fácil? Quem terá esse vício bendito, Quem terá o ofício bonito, Pra fazer minha gente feliz novamente?
  • Awesome! You know it's Ivan the moment you hear him. I was a teen when Harlequin was produced. I ran out and bought it right away. I still have the vinyl. Among the first of my jazz purchases. Still a big fan of all these guys!

  • beautiful song by d grp all stars... hope some1 can upload ivan lins "underground"? did i got the correct title... "underground ...".

  • A musica de ivan lins deixa a vida mais bonita....obrigado por ser brasileiro...

  • Wow I've heard the studio version a hundred times, but this live version is incredible, Ivan is just unbelievable! Thank you for posting. GBY

  • Ele é maravilhoso sempre...grande compositor, que fala aos nossos sentimentos com clareza ...

  • Harlequin is one of those CDs that is REQUIRED listening. I carried Harlequin to electronic stores to sample the speaker quality. The sound is so pure! Then there is the Cat of Rio on the same CD. The entire CD is GREAT!!

  • While I admire the artistry of Ivan, Phil Perry's version mops him up.

  • @irishmermaid4 Well, first of all, Ivan composed this song. Second, Perry has a great voice, but he can't sing portuguese, what compromises the overall quality of his version... But they're two great artists. And I`ll stick with Ivan's original version.

  • @aldux That's cool, al...Ivan turns you on the way Phil turns me on! Viva la difference! Keep smilin', and thanks for the response!

  • I loved this song from first hearing when it came out...still a favorite in my top shelf of classics!

  • GOD I wish I was in Jakarta right now .. What a set of giants to see live ..

  • Last night Harvey Mason joined Ivan Lins's session in Java Jazz. It was a blast. Today there'll will be Lee Ritenour session.

  • @astriddita , hey I was there too...mason was a great surprise...

  • one of the song listed in my most beautiful song ever heard, i am going to see this master in Java Jazz today...my waiting time for so many years will pay off

  • Personally, I think an artist who shows expression on his/her face is deep into the song, allowing it to control its expression. Ivan (and others) have very expressive faces. To me it is part of the communication process, an important part. So, go Ivan!!! Bless you and keep on truckin' forever. You are a the heart of Brasil.

  • this song is awesome---thanks

  • Unlike the children, Ivan Lins is to be HEARD, not to be seen. The faces he makes while singing are scaring. I'm kiddind. I love Ivan and think he's a genius. XD

Ao contrária das crianças, Ivan Lins é para ser OUVIDO, não para ser visto. As caretas que ele faz enquanto canta são de meter medo. Brincadeira. Eu adoro o Ivan e o acho um gênio. XD

  • I also like this one!

  • INCRIVEL...

  • 0:51...

    an anthony jackson face. classic

  • This is one of my favorite tunes of Lee Ritenour and Ivan Lins. Are they in YOUTUBE to invite as friends???? Thank you for posting this great video. Blessings to you.

  • Uauuuu que tremenda dupla de dos Musicos increiblesss..!!!! se eriza la Piel al escucharlos... FANTASTICOOO

  • Fabuloso, Fantastico,Exelente,Maravilloso,Perfecto,Every musician really did a Wonderful job .Minute 4 Abe is Singing along with Ivan I mean I like that part a lot .

  • GREAT GREAT GREAT SONG one of my favorites for Ivan lins

  • Man, what a band. Abe on bass, the late great Carlos Vega on drums, Grusin, Larry Williams, of course Lee Rit. What a performance!

  • Nossa o tecladinho dos caras do dominó hehehe ...musica show de bola!!

  • Unusual, terrific Ivan,so imaginative, what a great combination of musical talents. Over many year I remain convinced that the Portugese language is No 1 in lyrics. Sadly although I speak 4 languages I acn only listen and enjoy - I have all Lee's albums - he & Metheny must rate as the greateast guitarists ever, & Dave G is simply a superb musician/arranger Super Sounds - Ray lewis, England

  • amazing...perfect...beautiful....

  • Geat stuff; shame about the slightly out-of-sync sound/vision.

The drummer, Carlos Vega sadly committed suicide by shooting his-self. What a tragedy for his family.

  • WoW !!! Thanks So much for this video. This is MUSIC !!! I love all GRP recordings. But this song, Harlequin, has been my fav song for almost 15 years, and helped me get over lost love. Harlequin has a special place in my heart. I love Ivan Lins' voice, and Ritenour's über excellently guitar playing. I would love to hear Alicia Keys sing this beautiful treasure of a song.

  • Alicia Keys? Are you kidding me? That chick doesn't have an ounce of the musicality that these guys have in her whole (curvy) body, not to mention Ivan Lins' one-of-a-kind voice.

  • Hey samsamba08 ...Please don't be so closed minded.

  • sorry ... close minded :)

  • Check "Dinorah, Dinorah", another Ivan Lins' hit , along with Rit. Much less commercial than the predictable George benson's version (with all due respect...) You will love it !

  • awesome Ivan Lins, and Lee, wonderfulllllllllll, all this video.... and musicians

  • -extra....ele será siempre UN CASO PERFECTO en la musica de Brasil.-

  • Stunningly brilliant song, and performances. Does it get much better that Rit and the gang throwing it down like it's supposed to be? Is Abe Laboriel the deep pocket king or what?

  • Rit is the greatest

  • The Manhattan Transfer redid this song around this same timeframe.

  • Didn't the MT version have different lyrics and a different title ("Metropolis," wasn't it)?

  • Xactly!!!

  • just great!!

  • Thanks! I recorded the same song from my tv..but I never got the name from the song. Can I find this song on cd or vinyl?

  • Hi!

You can find this song in the cd "Harlequin" by Dave Grusin and Lee Ritenaur (Guest Ivan Lins). Check out on Amazon...
