Dasher, our basenji, does this too when his "pack leader" (aka my husband) leaves out the door without him. Heartbreaking. No yodeling, just the worried complaints.

I love a basenji and I love a pug.

Pugs are also adorable. My neighbor has two of them and they make a barking sound, but mostly they want to sit on your lap and have you pet them.

while he's not as vocal as this - he's a brindle, so he's typically much quieter - the whimper and scamper is all to familiar to these ears =)

To taud Basenji's are clingy dogs but this is not from people treating them like babies. This one of their behaviours. They do not like to be left alone & have been know to destroy homes when they were They still have a lot of wild in them.

Lots of the "problematic" issues with basenjis comes from the fact that they are "pack" dogs- they do not like to be alone. Consider having more than one dog if you want a basenji and it may help alot as long as they get along.

@axeman7000 Most basenji's only do it when you leave them, and if you engage them in something else (i.e. talk to them) they will mostly stop.

@misspodhradsky Well really separation anxiety happens because of the owner treating a dog like a human baby and it can actually lead to the dog being so clingy to you that itll bite people who shake your hand or come close to you.... even if the dog doesnt do it now, it doesnt mean it wont in the future, thats a sign of mental instability, just a warning...
