3.) It wasn't smart to crawl in this case too, ofcourse.. the closer to the ground, the better you can breath, but in a house where you need to walk 10 steps to get to the front door by walking there & holding your breath for 8 seconds it's just stupid to start crawling for 3 minutes.
4.) If you say this is all obvious afterwards you still need to learn a lot.. ofcourse u wont be able to think clear during a fire but there's a difference between clear thinking and common sense.
The scene is nice, but didn't really make sense tbh :>
1.) If you wake up in your bedroom (in a 1 floor house) and you see that the living room is on fire, it's most obvious you get out trough the window in the bedroom?
2.) And even if opening the window would cause a backdraft.. it would be smaller than the backdraft you would get by opening the door in the living room that was on fire.
Lol adding to "The Window" theory, if you actually watch the episode, youll be informed by Derek, if i remembered correctly, that "The UnSub" set it up so the family could only use the front door, which was wedged closed anyway.
For those who keep asking: "WHY DIDN'T THEY GO THROUGH THE WINDOW ?", here's a tip:
Ask a friend to set your house on fire while you're asleep, wake up (if you can), think (if you can anymore) and act (that becomes a little bit harder, huh ?!)...
Now, tell me how much of you passed through the window ?...
As soon as i saw this episode i searched up what song this was, I was addicted. Not to mention that this is one of the most impacting opening to any Criminal Minds episode. Anyone else just feel this sense of huge loss to see this family die to this music? ;/
porter69er u are a party pooper I love this song and criminal minds and agree that this is one of thier best starters for an episode now listening to song for 15th time lolz!
Sorry but this is just awful. I did a 3 month course on fires in buildings, it had a specific name can't remember, but that house is what 2 bedroom, 2 receptions, bathroom and kitchen. It's one floor. As if they have just traveled literally 20 feet, some of which wernt in flames, there was no smoke in the bedroom. They would not collapse from that. Sorry, wouldn't happen.
My parents watch this show and I was drawn to the tv to watch when i heard this song. And then right after I got on youtube to see if I could find it lol. Its so beautiful and sad at the same time. Perfect match to this scene.
This song kinda reminded me of fire starter, what was weird was when I looked this song up the last known media before this that used it in their sound track was sleep walkers. Both are stephen King masterpieces.
I'm not a fan of this show at all. I just wanted to hear this song. But I must say, the music and opening sequence are meant for each other!! The music gives power to the scene and the other way around as well! Props to the writers!
In this seen the family being burned alive because the father is a leader cutting environmental costs in a companies business to save money for the sake of big business greed. Good thing hes to stupid to jump out a fking second story window.
And so does Emily Prentiss when Hotch tells the woman that her husband and child are still alive. She almost cries, I don't think there's another episode in which she shows so much emotion.
the first thing that comes to mind.. is to get out using the door, because u wouldn't expect it to be blocked. By the time they reached the door, they would already be losing oxygen and wouldn't be able to get to the window.
the banshee in irish does not set fire. as a child we were told she fires a comb to kill. representing a death to follow for the person in the house.and sounds like a fox.
I heard this song in the early nineties , it was used in the movie sleep walkers by Stephen King way before that rap song used part of it. Thought it was pretty haunting to hear it on C.S.I
@misssarcastic78 It wouldn't cause an explosion in a house... Many people are able to get out due to breaking opened windows while a building is on fire.
@FlyleafDamonElenaxox think about it where do you go first when theres a fire in teh house? the door right? well the door was wedged so they couldent get out and then when they wernt able to breath it was too late for them to get to the door.
This is soo sad! But one thing came to my mind while watching this; why the heck did they not go through the window!? I mean, there must have been SOME windows in one of the bedrooms or something....
Anyway love the song. And I really do agree, this is one of the best opening scenes(:
@MRBISHIGSR It astonished me when I watched this opening. I wanted at once to share it because I was pretty sure I wasn't the only one... i was clearly right !...
Recently I just began on being introduced on this television series, Criminal Minds. I only watched a few episodes, but Ashes and Dust was my favorite due to the intro's song. It was haunting and yet alluring as the house fell down in flames. I want to this song being played at my funeral. :)
I'm watching this right now and when I heard the song I swear I heard the melody before. I think one of Diddy's artist used it a while back. The opening scene was possibly the best from the show and that's saying something. I had to find this song. So glad that I did!
Scoring this scene with this song was a stroke of brilliance. The juxtaposition between the music and the scene is great, it gives me goosebumps every time.
One of my favorite episodes. The following scene at the hospital broke my heart though. Thanks for posting this. All the other posters are dead on about the song being a perfect choice for the scene. It really brought home the feeling of loss.
wow really good. I have heard the song before, but from everyone's descriptions the show captured the meaning of it perfectly. In fact they did such a good job I actually wish I could watch the episode now
If u stop this at 3:47, u can see the face of the boy in the pic...isn't this the same child actor that played the role of the father's son (the dad who had leukemia)?? At the end of the episode, Hotch gives the boy a letter from his father. I swear this is the SAME kid.
i watched this episode last week! the song went perfect with the opening in this episode. although, now whenever i hear the song, i start thinking about people burning to death...it's scary. anyways...good video. good idea to show the whole opening and have the whole song play through it all...very good...good job :)
@lightyears1981 Maybe you should just watch the actual episode before you criticize. His fires have multiple origin points, those origin points being every possible exit to the house, except the front door, which he nails or locks shut so that he can watch them die.
Have you ever fought a fire before? I've fought many while I was in the Navy. You can't just walk through a blazing inferno to get to an exit like a window (which he'd nailed shut anyways). They were dead no matter what.
This is such a beautiful song and i love it so much, but I mean seriously, why did they take all that effort to get to the front door when they could've just gone out a window, i mean the house is one floor!
@beckie5001 no u piss off and stoping being a smartass all i was trying to fucking do was saying sumthin and u were being a fucking smartass u fucking cracker!!!!!!!!!
@AircraftPhotography1 he didnt have to. before luring the father outside he could have nailed the windows shut in both bedrooms from outside. effectively trapping them. a freak like this guy wouldnt start a fire blocking all paths but the front door and be stupid enough to leave the windows in the bedrooms as an option. they may not have tried them, but i bet they would have been locked just as the door was.
@PeopleAreFunny99 same response I gave the other guy: His fires have multiple origin points, those origin points being every possible exit to the house, except the front door, which he nails or locks shut so that he can watch them die.
Have you ever fought a fire before? I've fought many while I was in the Navy. You can't just walk through a blazing inferno to get to an exit like a window (which he'd nailed shut). They were dead no matter what.
This song is just too good for this..it should remain in film "sleepwalkers" was ok but it should have been in a Lynch film or something worth its weight.thx
I first saw this episode last night. The song is so amazing, as I would expect as it is by Enya. It is such a powerful song, you can feel the fear of the family as they try to escape their doom. The peacefulness of the song contrasts the frantic effort to escape the fire.
btw, this reminds me of Final Fantasy VII, which I may have said, I didn't read my other ciomments-but when ABCkorpi mentioned that--I suddenly thought of the part in Crisis Core when Sephiroth burns Nibelheim, then just walks away thru the fire...hair swaying, regretful, hateful thoughts going through his 1st class mind..
...whoa...I just listened to a few seconds of this song, and then all of a sudden, it played on Criminal Minds on TV right now!! Thats so---odd...yeah, so as I said
(2 wks ago), about this song, and Sephiroth..open another tab, or page, and go to Youtube..type in:..idk..Sephiroth burning Nibelheim (C.C. version) with it muted, or very silent, then play this song in backround..
Finally I found this song!!!!!!!!!!!

This song is great.
And that episode was lovely.

True! Also a very cool scene.

...whoa...I just listened to a few seconds of this song, and then all of a sudden, it played on Criminal Minds on TV right now!! Thats so---odd...yeah, so as I said
(2 wks ago), about this song, and Sephiroth..open another tab, or page, and go to Youtube..type in:..idk..Sephiroth burning Nibelheim (C.C. version) with it muted, or very silent, then play this song in backround..
