  • adesadeso1, seems crazy doesn't it. The reason is within the past 20 yrs about 500 to 1000 ft of beach & shoulder was out into the gulf waters. Aggressive dredging of Mobile Bay ship channel by the Army Corp of Engineers to allow deeper draft ships into port @ Mobile began the erosion problems for island. Due to the COE taking the low bid approach vs the best practices approach the dredged sand which historically would have continued to re-nourish this barrier island was dumped way offshore.

  • why do people build their houses out on the surfline around there?

  • They may not fix anything right now seeing that another tropical storm is about to enter the Gulf. And I'm really sorry to see your beautiful beaches being destroyed every day...its a real shame.
