I appreciate the visits. I will someday practice and submit better videos that are more enjoyable. ;) But sadly I still have issues (seeking disability +indigent +nearly homeless) that override wants/likes.

Also and significantly, Ive recently designed in 3D a new highly efficient multi-turbine engine which may well become a great financial success. If so, I'll end up doing guitar practice and updated videos whenever I want!

  • YOUR NAME IS EARL!!!!!!!! haha nice cover

  • i have the same guitar. i suck tho. nice job.

  • holy shit,..its randy from south park

  • love the guitar dude :)

  • Thanks water4fuelH2O. Maybe your gonna get me doing some vids again, it's been too long, looking forward to it.

Thanks for the inspiration and taking the time to jam, great song and playing. Nice git too!!!

  • water4fuelh20 (I'm also for alt energy!), Tush is an excellent tune I'd LOVE to learn. I even have some tab and backing tracks somewhere. Haven't tried learning it yet. When your domestic life is uncertain (starving artist/inventor), that can stifle a growing artist. Thanks for posting, what's your other handle?

  • Thanks much.

What exactly is it that makes folks say that my grip is like a baseball bat/choke hold? I'm guessing it's my thumb position. Check my forearm to wrist positioning, pretty much inline and comfortable, no problem that I see with bends.

I'm probably using 10's and my action is a bit high, maybe too high. My finger strength is weak and suspect.

I really appreciate these helpful comments. I feel like I'm improving, but progress is slow.

  • well srry :(

  • i think yew are a nosy ass bitch who needs to learn how to mind there own business ; D ;nuff said

  • That's a lot harder song to play than most people believe with a lot of artificial harmonics at the 12th 9th and 5th frets, and barre chord sliding. The root notes played in the beginning are palm muted to give it a heavier sound.

  • No No No. You guy's got it all wrong.

He looks just like Buck Dharma from Blue Oyster Cult. He even has an SG like him. Check out Blue Oyster Cult - Don't Fear The Reaper by Videoguysat. Now as for the playing, Make sure you have all of your settings right before you start taping and just keep practicing.

  • lmao idk why but yew look like a pervert XD

  • XD

What can I say. I was in a cosmic slump very likely from a lack of sufficient blues and rock exposure. It's a long story involving a few decades when I hardly played guitar, perhaps 2-3 times a year. (Ouch! I know, that's sad.)

However, I'm doing better these days. I play guitar weekly and listen to the blues and classic rock daily. And I reasonably expect progress update videos to show improvements. However videos might be weeks and months away, hard to say right now.

  • dude if ur a beginner y do u have 1 $2000 guitar and a $400 in the back

  • I got a great deal on the SG used from a friend who bought it new for 1200, and the Epiphone in the back is still 150-200 new. I have studied/practiced guitar for about 1.5yrs. If that qualifies me for beyond beginner, fine.

Until recently, I have played at the same level learning almost nothing new for decades playing maybe 3 times a year for a few hrs. I played violin since I was young, played some acoustic guitar before electric.

I'd rather rather be humble when asking for playing tips.

  • how do u know they cost that much

  • wheres Randy? ^^

  • nice song earl

    |_ () |_

  • u look like the guy from my name is earl

  • Dude, anyone ever tell you that you look like Ron Jeremy?

  • i have the same sg

  • natural talent just stop adjusting things just do it b4 the vid otherwise good

  • Is that a epiphone or gibson?

  • I'm playing a Gibson SG Standard through a 50watt Marshall JCM800 combo amp. But theres my Epiphone LP collecting dust in the background. LOL ;) Always good to have a backup somewhere.

Man, I can't wait to do an improved version. But, I can't find my video camera and I've been moving too much lately, so I'm not sure when I'll be able to post more videos again.

  • Woah.

    Great Job!

  • at 1:13 went a little sour but its still good and nice sg

  • No offense but why do people always wait until the tape is rolling before they make sound adjustments on the equipment? Not a bad thing just wondering! lol

  • Sometimes I purposely let some of the backing track play by itself to allow critical comparison of the level and tone as compared to my guitar rig. Plus, lol, in this case, since I'm a bit slow playing the opening riff, the fiddling around was also a bit of a cover up. ;D

Next video I plan to display correct picking tempo, better and different bridge/turn arounds, I'll find more correct harmonics, and I might have a horseshoe Bigsby tremolo system installed.

  • Harmonics at beginning. 12 fret D and G downstroke then 5th fret High E and B updtroke, emphasis on the E.

At the part you missed, I will give String and fret, it is mostly an alternating pattern.

    12th High E --> 7th G

    12 B --> 7 D

    12 G --> 7 A

    12 D --> Whammy --> updtroke and pick individually 12 E --> B and Whammy

  • 1:17 are supposed to be harmonics

Also try working it up to speed slower. Playing it at tempo with bad technique will only give you bad technique.

Gripping the neck like a base ball bat will only cause playing and physical problems.

Learn to get the beginning riff down, then you have to mute it a little.

My best advice would be to get a good teacher as soon as possible to teach you the basics about hand position and correct technique. Then you can develop your own style.Hope that helps.

  • Krelbar thx! 1:17 harmonics vrs fretted, good eye.

Main rhythm, I've since learned it's a triplet feel emphasis

    /\ V /\ - V /\ V

    instead of

    V /\ V - V /\ V

So I was wasting a stroke every 4 pick beats.

I have a fairly light grip on the neck & yet I bring my thumb around. I'm not sure why that's a problem as my wrist is more straight & flexible than otherwise.

I'm learning palm muting & look forward to recording improved song versions asap.

    Much appreciate these helpful comments!

  • Perhaps my thumb over the edge instead of behind the neck is a lazy/bad habbit. My lack of finger strength probably was at issue. When I played violin in 4th and 5th grade, I was taught to pretend that I had an egg in my palm to help keep proper wrist/hand position.

  • nice guitar and nice proformance

  • rally good thanks alot

  • nice sg! ur pretty good. but u need to plam mute. thats when u put ur palm on all the strings and just play. and just like ivan said ur not a show off. very nice cover

  • yea seriously man, that was actually pretty good

  • I admire you for keeping the dream alive and for your humility and honesty. You don't have an ego problem like most guitarists. Too many guitar players take themselves too serious and forget about having fun. You love to play and it shows in this video.

  • Thanks IvanAtlas, much appreciated. I love the music and try to put the same back into it! LOL And I do like being a positive influence, glad it shows now & then. My vids sort go against my ego as I know that I can do better, but when you record yourself, you are stuck with more like the average deal and that's what I need to improve upon, so I'm moved to keep practicing. This is 1 of my favorite songs/bands. Seriously love Ann Wilson's rockus vocals, soulful, beautiful, luvin large! They rock!

  • o btw heres a tip when u play u keep it open what u need to doo is palm it it will sound a lot better trust me

  • I've been told that b4 and appreciate the improvement that palm muting makes, thanks. I also need to learn triplet strumming accent that fits this song much better. I am not used to going

up down up, then down up down, then up down up.

I've always just strummed up down, up down, or visa versa, etc.

This is basically why I did these vids, to get positive constructive feedback. And to goad myself into taking the time to improve since I haven't improved much since I was a teen.

  • ya def once u learn cross picking u r golden trust me ive been playing for 12 years

  • o its an epiphine i tought they where 2 gibsons sry bout that lol and i never said it was bad its actualy pritty good for a beginer

  • wow ur an idiot ur a beginer u alreay bought 2 gibsons? wow that 4 thousand dallors dude now u have to keep up wiht it lol

  • I started learning violin @ 4th grade, acoustic git 6th grade & electric @ 14yrs. Then I only studied guitar 4about 1+ yrs, so I only have beginner knowledge of guitar music theory & technique. They first invented guitar TAB back when I was a teen! I'm not much more than advanced fake-it beginner that has been coasting for over 2 decades. Try recording yourself to improve, to humiliate yourself, do it in video before your practiced up like I did. LOL. The other guitar is under USA$200 Epiphone.

  • nice sg and i see my epi in the back hahahhaha only i got the goth one love heart nancy wilson gave me a rose in the front row i was i never forget that was one awesome night

  • dude you are no beginner man

i wish i could play like that

  • You're a beginner and you have a Gibson SG? you lucky man you!

  • nice SG bro

  • nice, is that an epiphone or a gibson btw? its really nice anyway, SGs ftw

  • setup first. then press record and play.

  • Pretty dam good mate keep it up!

  • Yo, nice job, for the galloping parts (intro) etc, use palm mute technique!

  • COOL GUITAR ,is IT A GIBSON SG STANDARD ?

  • looks like it i cant see the headstock very well....

    nice playing anyway!

  • Well you're damn sure havin fun and thats what its all about. The more you practice the better you get and the better you get the more fun it becomes. For a beginner,it ain't half bad though.Nice Gibby too....

  • good but the reaching down messes the video up bad

  • good but why do u keep reaching down

  • Well. didnt see no problems there. kudos on the song choice too. also, the mustache and the black S.G. make you look like Tony Iommi from black sabbath... and that aint a bad thing

  • toni is in heaven and hell with dio now right?

  • Yes, but theyre essentially still Black Sabbath, cos Dio was in sabbath after they fired Ozzy anyway. They still play sabbath songs and havent written anything new as far as I know either.

Im gonna see them this friday in Manchester!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's gonna be the s**t!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • nice sg, sweet song

  • Awesome job for a beginner... One of the best guitar songs of all time... I am sure you inspired many people to grab their guitars again.

  • hey dude if you want to be able to play the intro just as fast then practise your alternate picking and within like 2-5 days you'll noticed a huge difference. . .just practise like the Major Pentatonic Jazz Scale with the picking...alternet picking being up stroke to down stroke

  • Once upon a time I had a friend who described how to approach picking that part, he understood it seemingly intuitively, but I just don't get it on my own. I guess I just don't think about picking right. I probably need a demo to get it in my head right.

  • When you let go of your SG (Coz i just bought one today), does the neck fall towards the ground? Coz i find that really annoying. Ive thought of putting a weight on it or something but i don't have anything.

  • I noticed that too. When I let go of it, I just swing it round so that its on my back... it looks cooler haha

  • Cooool=)

  • This is the song that makes me want to pick up a guitar.

  • for a beginner, yer pretty gdam good. keep it up dude.

  • nice axe dude, always loved them Gibby SG's. rockon.

  • keep rockin buck! nice guitar and keep practicin bro!

  • Friggin awesome song. You play really good!

  • Love your work with BOC "Buck"!

  • (Laughing, good one!) As in "Donald (Buck Dharma) Rosser", lead guitarist & vocals of Blue Oyster Cult. Love em! Although I am not Buck, I recently found out that I look somewhat like he did about 2 decades ago. I look "remarkably" like several pics of him from his website. Here's to wishing they would make a movie involving vintage BOC. ;) Thanks for the notice, made my day.

  • Good work man, try resting the heel of your hand lightly on the strings towards the bridge to get a chunkier sound on the main riff.

  • a "beginner" playin a gibson? dude, a beginner wouldnt have done this half as good as you.

  • Thanks! I picked up the guitar for about 1or2 years about 28 years ago, leaned stuff regularly, then dropped it until now. Inbetween I played avg. 4 times a year. I am gearing up for a full on learning process soon. I need to learn some theory, chords and the blues big time. The recording quality is poor from cheapy camcorder. Done doing vids for now, started driving truck so that's my main thing presently. Learn your chords + scales, not just tab songs, and always have fun!

  • hey man your great for a beginner. how long have you been playing? im starting guitar soon to. your a inspiration.

  • Got a great deal on the 01 Gib SG w/some scratches, a few hundred less than one w/out scratches from a really great family who tragically lost they're son. Thanks for the comments! _MouseGirl_, I agree, Heart is awesome and that is an awesome song. I play it like a beginner, but music is for enjoyment & I enjoy 'playing along' despite the room for improvement. I'm gathering a portable guitar setup for the truck & hope to practice whenever I can. Enjoy! :)

  • nice fucking guitar man, gibson sg , How much did that cost?

  • you are perfect for a beginner i like it... you are realy good :-) just keep pumpin dude :-))

  • well I enjoy your videos, and you look like you have some nice guitars there,...

  • keep the good work... im glad you've avoid those "guitar haters" .. the guitar is a beautiful thing!!!lol, good job!!

  • you may love the guitar work you hear here--> www.myspace.com/ electricspaceodyssey

  • Lol I was going to post a video of me covering this song so i searched to see who did it first, good job.

  • Thanks much 4ever! By glancing at the TAB I offered 69, I found out picking the riff is a triplet feel. I've never tried it like that, so I think that may end up helping me get the timing/feel better. Then I'll study the Heart Tab book I bought last year still unopened. LOL I've been playing it pretty much this way for over 20 years (still am a 1st yr. guitar student). A really fun song. I love Ann Wilson's singing + them rocking guitars. Great to hear they are back on tour again!

  • I LOVE HEART!!!! That was fucking AWESOME!!! SENSATIONAL 4 a beginner. I just started guitar. I LOVED it :)

  • Keep at it man, you weren't bad at all. I've heard some professional musicians trying to cover this song and failing badly. Like you said, the original song had Howard Leese & Roger Fisher playing, so I'd say you held your own. Just a couple of bum notes that I could hear, and you're not anywhere near as pretty as Nancy, but rock on!

  • Thanks for the post and compliment. I googled "guitar tab" and found this. http://www.ultimate-guitar.com/ then search for Heart=artist, then Barracuda=song. There are plenty of other tab sites. Barracuda is likely Heart's best hit. I hear they are back on tour! I think they had two guitarists so combining some things for a single guitarist is understandable. If the TAB is too difficult/advanced, then I suggest focusing on the easier stuff and maybe try simplifying the harder stuff.

  • awsome vid! Could u send me the tabs for this song? thanks
