This was one of the first 'neo-classical' compositions - Prokofiev took Haydn for his model. One feature that comes through in this performance is the fantastic sense of rhythm which one often finds with the Russians; Tchaikovsky and Stravinsky are other good examples. Small wonder they rule the world when it comes to ballet!
Never heard this before, but I'm very taken with the melodiousness and joyful energy of the writing (and performance). The video is well-made too - I like the inclusion of paintings especially! Anticipating more to come...
No es una respuesta, es la segunda parte.

Isn't the gavotta the same as the gavotta from Romeo and Julia?

The flutes are taking some those D's down an octave. :(

It sounds like an accordion at 1:51. Strange, I've never heard this detail in other performances:-) Gives it a Russian sound.
Thanks for the upload!

I much prefer this to the newer conductors....this seems faster than the Toscanini versions, but I adore Koussevitsky...

What do you mean by "the newer conductors?" What do they do that you don't like?
