@laelamarie1 The term came from bands who literally gazed down at their shoes (actually, their instruments) when they played live, rather than look out at the audience. They were often characterized by guitar drone, distortion, and vocals mixes down behind the sound. Check out Lush (who were also tagged as Dream Pop).
@laelamarie1 The Smiths led the charge. They inspired all these 'shoe gaze' bands. And they didn't gaze at their instruments. They were looking at their shoes. It stems from shyness and a feeling of misery.
I went to their gig in Frankfurt tonight. Needless to say, it was absolutely brilliant. This damn song almost made me cry. At least I managed not to fall in love with Kazu ... By the way: her singing was even better than on their records.
@antromorfo: you might also call it "shoegaze", although it is debatable if this can be strictly seen as shoegaze. But, if you like this, it's likely you like the best shoegaze band ever: M83. Look them up on youtube, there are loads of massive song of them online. Try "We own the sky" (one of their best songs), "Kim and Jessie", "Run into flowers" and from there just follow the recommendations on the right :)
@dmmh wtf? are you talking about. This is totally not shoegaze AND!! m83 is not the best shoegaze band ever bro wtf?!.. my bloody valentine is the best shoegazing band there was and will ever be... new shoegaze bands are good as well.. but you can put anyone over mbv.
@Circa7 : in defense of dmmh, while i would not classify BR as shoegaze per se, some of their songs def have a shoegaze element to them. MBV best ever (v. M83 or whatever), well that's just a matter of preference. but i'd have to agree with you and say MBV were def kings of shoegaze sound.
wow three thumbs downs? meh, don't mind them. just n00bs who think you're making a will farrell reference. I like the cowbell part, too! lots of playful percussion in this song.
Nice use of cowbells

exactly :) very playful. Thanks!
The cowbell part along with the echoey effect throughout this song (e.g. at 3:35) and the final part are perfected.
