lol i like when he said that the mule and the tractor had a war about who was the best and he look at the tractor and said the tractor won the war kml. good1
hey Ted This video inspired me to get a bottom plow for my little kubota. Found the old plow in a neigbors back field and made it a 3pth. Not the best technique but sure is a lot of fun! Check out my video response. Thanks again for the awesome vid series.
@8tyman8 Yes it is better to have a more aggressive and narrow tire, it has less surface area to dig through the snow and reach the ground for better traction.
This video may be just over 2 years old but it is as valuable today as it was the day you made it. THANKS for you videos. WE WILL LEARN or at least those of us that want to learn. I know there may be some out there that know more than you do but I HAVE NOT SEEN many of their videos that help me like your do. THANKS AGAIN ! ! !
I agree. I grew up living in the country after living first in the city. We nearly starved while living in the city and when we moved in with my grandparents and learned to garden in the country we ate much better and we grew up better and with more respect for the land. I love the gardening tools you all sell and the videos gives those who buy your gardening tools a good example of how to use them properly. Thanks for the videos.
The three-point hitch was invented by Ferguson, who partnered with Ford, and then became Massey-Ferguson, biggest tractor maker in the world once, made in Canada, now gone forever.
After making adjustments during the first two passes, the plow was going at full depth. Did you watch the video all the way till the end? The first two passes were shallow.
I love your videos, very informative. What do you grow in that soil besides tobacco? Thanks again for showing the nuts and bolts for us wanna be farmers.
For those that don't speak German, SoLLiLeinchen was saying that the soil was too dry to plow properly. We would have liked it to have a little more moisture too, but we were on a schedule . . . if only we had weather on demand. LOL.
im new to farming, so dont laugh, but why do you plow with the right tire in the furrow and not the left? b/c you are just covering up what you just plowed? is there a reason for that?
This is not a dumb question. The answer is yes, you must stay in the same furrow because what you are trying to do is to turn the soil over. The end result is that the soil is turned over.
Holy wow! I hadn't checked the comments on this video for a while. Great to see that people still love to farm and learn how to farm. I grew up from the time I was 2 years old in my Dad's Allis Chalmers / Ford / New Holland Dealership. My dad gets a kick out the videos and says that he taught me well. Good to see that people who own tractors are using them for more than mowing! Thanks for all the comments!
hi ted, god i would love towork for you id retire with a guy like you, you explain everything so awesome, top links side links, shear shoes its great. ive just been inspired to plow my own garden i have a small john deere 110 with a brinley one bottom plow with a culter wheel. do you have any suggestions on how i can set my plow the best on this? i keep up the great work and please keep makin videos. !! mark
Hi Ted, thanks for your great videos! I find myself watching over and over! There is obviously a lot to learn about plowing. I'm repairing an old Dearborn plow that I'll be using to start a nice garden on my new property. I'd love to buy a bunch of attachments from you, if only just to repay for the informative how-to videos, but money being the way it is today we're all just trying to make due. Thanks!
Thanks for the great videos...all I've been doing with my old JD850 is mowing. Fixin' to start some gardening soon. Forget the price and the chemicals, soon we may not be able to get anything that we don't grow ourselves. Those foreign countries that have been accepting dollars for their products are not going to be able to sell their goods for our paper money anymore.
Like mentioned before in the video . . .this is North Carolina Red Clay. Wish I could have given you a tomato from my garden this summer so you would understand. . .
please no more tomatoes for me!! i'm over run with them, but they are tasty . we have that nice rich black ohio soil, i could plant a dead hippy in there and i'd have tofu tree in 4 weeks
lol, i know what you mean about the rough, and hard north carolina clay. i just got a plow for my sears suburban about 3 days ago, and i had to try it out. and the rain we got the day before made my tires slick so i had to go super slow, but it was fun.
Great series guy's, very good instuctions on how to use and what they are intended for, I've been think of getting back into the garden/farming, still got grandads tractors with a 2 bottom plow but don't know what happened to the rest of the cultivators, I may have to look you guys up
You guys need a coulter on that plow to clean up that furrow wall. A plow with that short of a shank needs to be pulled more slowly, or plow at less depth. It looks a bit messy at high speeds.
Ted--Some people prefer to smoke weed with their smelly hippie friends and meditate amongst their seedlings, and that's OK (for them). Your video is invaluable for those interested in conventional small farming methods. Love your series! Keep at it!
Instead of cursing those that use conventional farming methods, educate....At least we are trying to get people to live from and love their land again, self-sustainability is becoming survival, as the foods on grocers shelves is less and less food and more and more GMO, anything to get people to live and think for themselves is a plus...I agree though, there are better ways to do this so I'll check out your channel to watch and learn.
as long as the soil is given compost and the crops are rotated this plow method is fine in smaller plots 2-5 acres say with ground cover growth in between plots as wind brakes . single tine plowing which is what you think is low impact does not led itself to a wide var of crops so you end up having to tine plow more land which defeats the purpose . i will also check your enviroplow videos on your channel(which you don't have)
well considering western societies significant problems with obesity and illness, and a diet full of empty calories (ie low nutrition, maximum carbohydrates) i'd say that THE WAY FOOD IS GROWN needs to be re-assessed. On another note, the plants that are produced for food are grown using sunlight, CO2 and water to produce sugars...
i was not implying that you were from the west... however, it makes you think who is responsible for what people eat... check out the video called "King Corn".

after plowing, how long do I have to wait before I till?
tflicklikeable 1 year ago
@tflicklikeable You can till your garden immediately after plowing if the moisture is right.
