  • I understand the distilled water and the isopropyl alcohol, but why dawn or jet dry? Won't those substances leave residue and cause damage to the record?

  • @paleobuff The Dawn or Jet-Dry is used in very small quantity, too small to leave a residue. They're included to serve as a surfactant, reducing the surface tension of the water so that it will lay flat on the record, spread evenly and allow debris particles to be suspended in it.

  • @02attaboy So, in a bottle like the size in your video, how many drops of jet-dry would you use? Two or so?

  • @paleobuff I think one drop would do it. You could make the solution with no surfactant and try it out. Then add a drop and see if the way the solution behaves changes. If without Jet-Dry it beads up and separates, but lays flat and spreads evenly after you add a drop of Jet-Dry, you got it.

  • @02attaboy I have just tried this method on several of my records. After weeks of trial and error, your method is finally the one that made the crackles and pops go away. I think the key is the vacuuming away of the junk. Thanks for the post. I really appreciate it.

  • @paleobuff That's good to hear. You're probably right about the vacuuming. No cleaning solution works if you don't have an effective system for removing it.

  • @02attaboy One last question. How often do you clean your records like this? If not every time, what do you use in the interim period?

  • @paleobuff Only once each. When I play them, I very lightly dust them on the turntable if it looks like they need it...and they often do.

  • Earplugs. Seriously.
