My hamster TJ tried squeezing through the bars like that before with the door not the slightest bit open. When I got home, I went to check on him and he was hanging by his back legs, trapped. We got him out but he never got the full use of his back legs, his internal organs were crushed and sadly he died 4 days later. RIP TJ! :'(

Sadly , leo died on jan1 2010 (happy new year for me!) .I sulked and cried over her death for a month but I got a new named Loki (like the norse god ) . Some hamsters like yours and mine have a strong will to be free! I had one we named Buttercup and she even tried so hard breaking open the cage that her mouth started bleeding after a little while. I then blocked all the small holes and crevices in the room and let him out to walk around in the room WHILE I KEPT AN EYE ON HIM (VERY IMPORTANT). After an hour or so, he would finish exploring the room and then "listen" to my calling to return back to the cage.
