I speak 3 languages and travel. There's a noticeable difference in how Americans are perceived. But the Nobel peace prize is not a lifetime achievement award. Dissidents from Burma to Guatemala have received the prize for their efforts even though they have no concrete successes.

Woodrow Wilson received the award even though he failed to establish the League of Nations. It was for his efforts. Personally, I think Obama deserves the award for championing a fiscal stimulus in the face of a liquidity trap (zero bound on monetary policy). Obama averted a depression against an ill-informed oppposition even though economists around the world were nearly unanimous in support of him.

according to the committee in norway that chose him for the award, they said he has "good intentions" for world peace. Many foreign leaders that have worked with him agreed with this.
I am an Obama supporter, but i was shocked when I heard this. He even admitted himself that he was shocked, and wasn't entirely sure why he won it.

Good point. As much as the government is cracking down on the tobacco industry , you have our own president supporting tobacco usage.
Another thing I found funny is that Obama openly admitted he smoked pot " I inhaled frequently, that was the point" and the media just brushed it aside. But back in '92 when Clinton was running for office they jumped all over him when he said he tried it "But I didn't inhale".

I just came back from a visit to my 82 year old grandparents, and even my grandmother asked me if I knew just why he won the prize.
I don't recall him doing anything *yet* that deserves the prize, but he hasn't done anything *not* to deserve it either. Maybe it's because he's the first black US president, but skin color shouldn't have anything to do with anything.
Whatever it may be for, i'm for Obama all the way.
