How do you capture souls with a grand soul gem

either use a soul trap spell on a creature that has a "grand soul" (which is pretty much the highest characters like liches, storm atronaches, wraith's etc.) and kill them during the duration of the spell or you could use an enchanted weapon with soul trap. a really good one is the sword "umbra". also get azura's star which is basically a reusable grand soul gem.

you need a grand soulgem and then cast soultrap and kill 'em before the soultrap spell wears off and then you have a soul.

You need a black soul gem for human souls.

You get one by placing a grand soul gem in a dark altar when the light is shining on it, then hitting it with soul trap.

Or, you could just slaughter necromancers. =P

If you want a reliable source go to the Unofficial Elder Scrolls Pages - uesp[.]com (remove the brackets of course). Once on the site search for black soul gems, and read how to convert a grand soul gem into a black one. After that, it's the same as capturing any other creature's soul, just cast Soul Trap and kill them before the spell wears off.

U need an empty Grand Soul Gem & u need to have a soul capture spell you can use (scroll or spell doesnt matter). Then you go to Dark Fissure SSE of Cheydinhal & at the entrance to the cave youll find an altar. Wait til midnight &have a look at the altar. There should be a beam of light shining down on the altar, if there isnt wait 24hrs. If there is place the empty grand soul gem IN the altar, & cast the spell. open the altar &voila you have a black soul gem (cast the spell again for each gem)
