I am fans of both Diaz brothers but I realy only want to see the best fights and see the best fighters holding the title. Who ever wins most consistently should continue to move into that top position and get the shot at the title the UFC ussually gets it right. I love to get some other opinions from other fight fans out there getting some great reminders and other perspectives.
I forgot about Guida and Stevenson but that was a while back diaz has gotten a lot better. Some of those fight where real close all except Mcdonald and he did submit Maynard on TUF.
I think Diaz is getting better all the time he does have some issues with wrestlers but at 155 if he continues to improve I think he could be a contender and to say that he could be the next guy to get a fight to be a #1 contender maybe win and get a title shot, I am inclined to agree that he will most likely never win a UFC title. That being said he works with G. Melendes and Jake Sheilds two good wrestlers.

Why should Melvin get a title shot when he got owned by Lauzon? Miller just lost to Henderson, so this is more a competitive comeback fight for both of them. Miller will still have a really impressive UFC resume, but Melvin isn't championship quality yet.

And Pettis was supposed to fight the winner of Gray and Frankie after they fought Jan 1 last year, but they drew so they had to fight again. Pettis instead fought Guida but lost. Bendo, on the other hand, beat Miller who wasn't supposed to get a title shot anytime until after Pettis fought, but Bendo destroyed him. Then Bendo fought Guida in a great fight and definitely earned a title shot.

U guys are really trippin' out. How can you talk down that bad on Mr. Melvin ? You don't think he's an elite fighter ? Have you seen any of his fights ? He is awsome ! I mean, despite the lost, I think he puts on a great show and puts a lot of energy into his craft. I think some of you will be eating your words very soon. I am fans of both Diaz brothers but I realy only want to see the best fights and see the best fighters holding the title. Who ever wins most consistently should continue to move into that top position and get the shot at the title the UFC ussually gets it right. I love to get some other opinions from other fight fans out there getting some great reminders and other perspectives.

I forgot about Guida and Stevenson but that was a while back diaz has gotten a lot better. Some of those fight where real close all except Mcdonald and he did submit Maynard on TUF.

I think Diaz is getting better all the time he does have some issues with wrestlers but at 155 if he continues to improve I think he could be a contender and to say that he could be the next guy to get a fight to be a #1 contender maybe win and get a title shot, I am inclined to agree that he will most likely never win a UFC title. That being said he works with G. Melendes and Jake Sheilds two good wrestlers.

Melvin was finished in his last fight by rear naked choke my bad, dropped and choked out by Joe Lauzon. one win if he wins (big if!) should not get him a title shot and I do not think it will. And while i'm posting I do like Melvin Guillard he just has some holes in his game. I don't think Nate Diaz has lost at light weigt in a long time (Gray Maynard may be his last loss at 155?). May be Diaz vs Lauzon for #1 contender and a title shot or Gilbert Melendes comes over from StrikeForce up to Zuffa

Guillard has the talent to be the champion, he has speed and power unlike anyone else in the LW division, unfortunately he is also one of the cockiest, most immature fighters in the UFC. If he thinks this is a number one contender match he's out of his mind, Diaz is gonna fight Pettis or Lauzon for the #1 contender spot....MG has to string together a few wins over top guys.... He might have got a shot if he'd have beaten Jlau, but he didn't

Why should Melvin get a title shot when he got owned by Lauzon? Miller just lost to Henderson, so this is more a competitive comeback fight for both of them. Miller will still have a really impressive UFC resume, but Melvin isn't championship quality yet.

Melvin was supposed to get it too but lost to Lauzon who only won two straight fights, he doesn't deserve a title yet in my opinion. It's only right that Jim miller and Melvin fight it out for a title shot.

@19thaman79 Hendo lost a CLOSE fight to Pettis in the very last WEC fight. And Pettis was supposed to fight the winner of Gray and Frankie after they fought Jan 1 last year, but they drew so they had to fight again. Pettis instead fought Guida but lost. Bendo, on the other hand, beat Miller who wasn't supposed to get a title shot anytime until after Pettis fought, but Bendo destroyed him. Then Bendo fought Guida in a great fight and definitely earned a title shot.

I wouldnt give either a title shot. Pettis lost against Guida and won a split decision against Stephens (who is not even close to a top lightweight). Lauzon has won 2 in a row but has never really been stable in his career, Whenever he gets a streak going he usually suffers a loss.
Id say the front runner now for a title shot after Edgar/Henderson is Nate Diaz but Diaz needs to put away another top or former contender (such as Maynard in a rematch) in order to get the shot.

@TheEbopallday Lauzon is fighting Pettis soon. Nate probably deserves a shot soon too, especially after that win over Cerrone I'm pretty sure Dana will at least put him with a top 5 fighter.
Before their last fights, Jim had a 7 fight win streak and Guillard a 5 fight win streak. Jim lost to Ben Henderson who is fighting Frankie at UFC144.
I would want Melvin to get a title shot if he beats Jim because he's an exciting fighter, & would have a great fight against Frankie or Ben

@danthetinman916 Yea I agree. But after beating Bendo in the last WEC fight, Pettis was supposed to fight the winner of Gray & Frankie, but they drew and had to fight again. Then Pettis lost to Guida which set him back, while Bendo & Guida fought for a title shot, (after Bendo destroyed Jim Miller).
But yea Lauzon has always been a contender and both Diaz bros are 2 of the finest in their divisons. Nate tore through Cerrone who has been on a tear, so he should get it I believe.
