The musicianship on this album is incredible, I'm finding it so hard to like the vocals though, I would've bought this album in a heartbeat if that wasn't the case.
This album is amazing.vocals and all. Each song IMO tells a different story and a different mood. would not change anything of this creative piece of artwork.
@chaosphere87 What do You think the key concept of the album is? Like, in a nutshell, obviously. I'm just interested in the opinions of other listeners of this masterpiece. :)
The music moves in a way where its always switching from ambiance to heaviness, the harmony of the vocals go exactly well with the vibe of the music creating an aura of melody that is divine.
A prime example would be this song as it show the atmospheric elements of the band with warm inviting singing that is both unique and powerful.
This album is deep. Only thing that ruins it for me is the vocals.
Do other people out there dig these vocals? This is not a hater comment at all, just curious.
To me, they seem (which I hear alot in prog metal nowadays) too childish. Maybe by the time all these new bands get to their second album, the vocalists will have tightened, and beefed up their sound a bit.
As a whole though, this still kicks ass, and the vocals wouldn't stop me buying the album.
@lifeleech Cheers man, my exact same thoughts about the whole djent scene. But I yet have to listen to Februus.. But I am sure it will be one of the better things around.
@lifeleech Haven't put that much thought into it yet (I haven't checked out much of the modern prog bands yet, only Tesseract really) but I really like the dreamy vocal melodies. The technique/edge/approach of singing could be better in Uneven Structure could be better though, you're right.
@lifeleech Februus is a great album, the vocalist is from france so has a different accent on everything, but i totally agree, the majority of vocals sound childish with the exception of vildhjarta
@lifeleech I feel like the vocals might have too much wailing every now and then but the majority of the album the vocals perfectly suit the music and really make this album stand out thanks to the production.

@lifeleech actually yeah, I kinda like them :-) especially the clean parts, I like the color of his voice and they nicely contribute to the atmosphere
@lifeleech its the generation, its our generation that is creating the new age of metal, therefore you can't expect much from 18-20 year olds first starting off :P but i don't mind it.
@xMxExTxAxLxHxExAxDx Are you saying that the members of Uneven Structure are 18-20 year-olds? From looking at their Myspace photos and also just listening to the music (clean vox especially) they are well into their twenty's if the vocalist isn't 30 or so. Or did you mean the young bands in general? If so, I completely agree.
@ThatOneGuyWhoIsAGuy I really wish that comment wasn't top rated, honestly I didn't feel that strongly about the vocals. To answer your question though, I was saying they sounded a little too young (not the way they're written, just the voice) I'm not gonna name other bands to compare, cause that just starts debates, but all I was saying was I would've like them to sound more mature. Don't know how else to put it. All in all though they are pretty good, and suit the music well. :)
@lifeleech Mh. I have the same problem. I generally don't like the cleans. The album was a immediate buy without them, but I can't dig the clean vocals, no matter how hard I try.
@lifeleech I like the vocals overall ..I just think the words during the screaming parts could be a bit clearer - I like being able to know what he's saying (I don't expect it to be perfect but enough to distinguish)...the dragged out heavy vox are good. I really like the clean vox too.. Just some tightening/tweaking...he'll get it, I have faith. This band is awesome.
@MyxHarnett THANK YOU! I'm so glad someone finally described this to me. I've been looking, and looking, and FUCKING looking, and finally someone answers with something other than a rude comment or "Thall is thall". God dammit people with common decency within anonymity make me smile.
This is such an incredible addition to the first minute that we've already heard. I really like the clean vocals. Ohh, no one's interested (or for that part above the age of twelve). Ok in that case...

Love the music, but imho the singer doesn't fit. Personally someone with a higher voice would fit better. No hate, just a thought.

Imagine if their vocalist did a lot of gutterals. Or just lows. That'd make this epic. At least for me. I love lows/gutterals. :)
