I am a fan of the gothenburg sound in general, but what In Flames puts out now is nothing but nu-metal trash ,and now that Jesper has left the band, they are no longer really In Flames, but some hollow shell of marketing gimmicks and bad vocals. Asking for experimentation in metal is fine, but when you completely lose your original fanbase, you know you fucked up.

In Flames were far more famous (within certain circles) back in the hey-day, late 90s, when they had virtuosity and melody in their songs. Haters 'gon hate, yeah.

They could have easily kept making melodeath masterpieces that barely differed from eachother and stayed relatively underground but they decided they want to be a bigger band than that. I love when a good underground band gets more popular, as long as the music is still good. In Flames' older shit, like every band, is better but this stuff is still good. I just dont know what people expect.

What if Metallica never put out the Black Album? They would be about 1/10th as big and alot of fans would have never even heard their 80s stuff. Like I said nobody is stopping you from listening to 90s In Flames. Be happy more people are discovering them now which might lead to other good bands.

@dasgibson21 Comes down to preference. Some people like the more mainstream metal sound that they're doing now. If anyone reads their bio, there was a lot more going on in the band than just a desire to get on the radio more (personnel changes, personal struggles, etc).
That said, I don't really like their new stuff at all. I'm a HUGE fan of their melodic death metal years (beginning until Reroute to Remain). This music is just not In Flames.

greatest band ever in history! in flames got me into metal and looking at music in a whole different way. I got to understand melodies harmonies rhythm and pretty much everything about vocals and guitar. They were my inspiration to start playing guitar/singing and to this day i don't think they have a bad album. Every one of their albums has a different sound and i love that, keeps things fresh and not repetative.
this song just wreaks of mediocrity. they are trying to hard to become a bigger band than they already are. using generic music to get as many people to listen to them as possible. i miss their old stuff. this is just meh at best.

I hated this album when I first listened to it. But it's grown on me more than their older stuff! I love this new material and love the change. Mixed in with some older stuff this album actually fits really well.

I like in flames old stuff(Jester Race, Whoracle, Colony) but i can appreciate their new stuff, but when i see comments like this from a guy that listens to Nu-Metal pussy shit makes me want to give up on in flames. Im still wondering why people like Nu-Metal it is shit all they do is downtune their guitars, play 3 power chords and whine about getting picked on in high school. greatest band ever in history! in flames got me into metal and looking at music in a whole different way. I got to understand melodies harmonies rhythm and pretty much everything about vocals and guitar. They were my inspiration to start playing guitar/singing and to this day i don't think they have a bad album. Every one of their albums has a different sound and i love that, keeps things fresh and not repetative.

Just because their music style has changed to a style where they can probably make more money out of it, doesn't mean they do it for the money. If they did it for the money, they wouldn't have become musicans anyway. I hated this album when I first listened to it. But it's grown on me more than their older stuff! I love this new material and love the change. Mixed in with some older stuff this album actually fits really well.
