But it must also be noted that English proficiency is on the decline.
You will find that those 40 years old and above are fluent, but that younger ones are not.
This is due to the introduction of Tagalog-speaking courses in schools, and the growing number of English films being translated into the local national language.
As such, many call centers here find themselves scraping the bottom of the barrel.

Would like to share my experience, on the onset of my call, my customer already asked for an onshore representative, she was asking me why is that every time she calls, she would end up speaking to a Filipino rep, and so she asked for a supervisor. Just so happen that our supervisors are also Filipinos. So I xferd the call, when my sup answered, the caller was like "oh finally! someone from the US!" my sup then answered, "sorry mam, I am a Filipino, born and raised here in the Philippines" :)

I swear most of our help centers (flights, mobile phones, finance etc) are done in Philippines and the hard core telemarketers trying to sell us phones and whatnots are done by Indians. Agree with this dude that Philippines call centers are more helpful and friendlier than those in India. I've fairly strong Australian accent and haven't encountered any issues with them yet.

But it must also be noted that English proficiency is on the decline.
You will find that those 40 years old and above are fluent, but that younger ones are not.
This is due to the introduction of Tagalog-speaking courses in schools, and the growing number of English films being translated into the local national language.
As such, many call centers here find themselves scraping the bottom of the barrel.

I swear most of our help centers (flights, mobile phones, finance etc) are done in Philippines and the hard core telemarketers trying to sell us phones and whatnots are done by Indians. I would say having a Us culture is a BAD thing they have their own culture that really they should promote MORE and drop the US stuff, also english is used not as a copy of USa BUT english is spoken from day one in school verbal and written its not really a copy of america thats a wrong idea

English may not be the primary tongue for many of the Indias, nonetheless English does have a firm grasp in India, mostly due to the British rule in India.

hey guys, i'm 14 yr old Filipino with sister whom is call center agent, she said that the reason why she gets customer dissatisfaction is that when Indian call center agents having difficulty in handling their customers, they pass it to Filipino call center agents. thus, they will be blamed. i'm not here to discriminate but to inform Indians to do their job well. :)

@prinzjustin16 precisely correct... sometimes i get bad surveys because of indians passing the concern to us.. n when surveys kick in.. we are the last touch... so we last touch agents do better.. no.. we do beyond caring the customer to calm down and apologize to them what the indian representative did to them.. n whats better is.. sometimes.. american customers leave comments before end of a call.. "thank god I got u filipino guys!"
