People need to achieve a certain level of understanding of the world and other cultures, to see that their god and religion is just another myth, and the world really operates on scientific principles.

The parts of the USA where people are most educated and tolerant, the religion IS fading back and many have changed to scientific view of the world. However, larger parts of the USA the people are not enlightened enough. Same applies to Europe: the south and east are still quite religious.

i weighed whether or not to share this but i'm going to. my wife has multiple sclerosis and is quite ill. she's also a really loving, forgiving person. she has these dreams at night which she will sometimes tell me about. not long ago she spoke in detail of a dream she had where she was sitting in her wheelchair next to Jesus as he judged peoples lives. listening to her describe in incredible detail what she saw,...PHEW!!! whatever sliver of doubt i had evaporated as i listened to her words.
