A great man, met him twice while stationed in Lemoore, very humble. He was a very good guy. Deserved the honor, and much more, only AO ever received reward.
Understand that he died a day before Gary Cleman, obviously we know who to pay respect to. Also understand that the last Doughboy died a day before Charlie Sheens kids were taken away so who sells more newspapers.
i have the up most respect for these men. medals or no medals they all deserve greatness. you cannot ask fro more heroic people in this country. and all i want to say is. your turn has past its out turn now
@ironfreak225 Your not lsitenign to what im saying, go read and learn. These men went through a real war. Compared to the iraq invasion. Its like apples and oranges. This is war. Iraq is a fucking walk in the park. I dont give a fuck what soldiers who have been through iraq feel about my comment. If you ask them and they are telling the truth they would agree. Iraq is nothing compared to world war 1 or the pacific war in ww2 or vietnam...... nothing. if u dont know that you dont know shit.
@blackelk7373 Having been in the USMC for 15 years and fought for 3 years in the war In Vietnam, I would be ashame to say those men who fought and died in Iraq did not fight and die in a real war, much like the fools that told us that we did not fight a war but a Police Action. No war can be compared to another war, might you be suggesting that the Korean conflict was not a war or perhaps the War in Europe didn't count because you did not mention those.
i knew him in person, he was really coool , i was 12 at the time and helped him around the house he had sooooo many stories when he was young, im going to miss that.. :( , R.I.P Lt. John Finn
Wow, it stirs the heart, My brothers are Marines, & i have nothing but the highest pride for them, & i will soon be joining the Army, God bless our service men and women.
I first heard of LT John W. Finn while at AO A-school NATTC Millington, TN. There is an AO museum named in his honor. I think it would be a fitting tribute to have a United States Navy ship named after him. An online petition has been created to do just that. It is at petitiononline. com/USSLTJWF/ Please sign the petition and help honor a real American hero.
@mysplendid7 God Bless John Finn ! All who served in WW2 are heroes ! John is truly a Great American and this Country would be much better off had someone of John's stature and Courage been elected President of this Country !
I am crushed by the news of Mr. Finn's passing today. I had the honor of meeting him a few times due to the Gainesville program. Such an incredible man.
John Finn was my father's best friend from their days together in the United States Navy. I am 66 years old and I have known John Finn (that's what I always called him, first and last name together) since I was a small girl. He is an honorable, kind, loving man who would give you the shirt off his back. But the greatest gift of all is his friendship. My family loves our John Finn stories.
That liberal scum doesn't deseret to be in the same room as those medals or the men that bear them. Tie her to the tow hook on a humvee and drag her down main street along with every other politician because they're all scum.
i had the honor of spaeking with this hero in my seinor year in USMCJROTC at Westview High School, and i will say that it was the greatest honor in my life to meet, thank you so much for you service to this great nation, your story you told us that day was amazing to endure what you endured with selflessness and duty above all else yo are an inspiration to us all.
John Finn showed the Japs that America WAS going to WIN World War 2 by his supreme heroism on December 7th of 1941 ! We need to honor ALL Veterans of the United States and for our schools to teach in their History and Government classes about this Country's heroes. It is a real sham that many kids and even some adults do NOT even know what the Medal Of Honor is or what it represents. Thank YOU, Mr. Finn, for what YOU did to show America's WILL to preserve our Freedoms !
I met him once at the ground breaking of the USS Oklahoma Memorial at Pearl Harbor
Dec. 7, 2006. He was there with the OKIE survivors.
I got his autograph.

Finn didn't die of old age.
He died because Patton wanted someone worthy to cross swords with in Heaven.
