Led Zepplin the best rock band ever. This was an outstanding concert. Robert sounds great. It is a pleasure to see this I have not seen it since 1995 when it first came out, I grew up in the 60s and 70s and remember when Led Zepplin first started out I bought every one of their Albums and i Now have everyone of them on CDs .
@BellaGypsy1982 I think what they mean by "slide" is the "slide guitar" That would be my guess .It is just a slang term. The slide guitar, is a guitar that you put on your lap, just like a guitar, but instead of hold the guitar standing up, you are sitting down. Why don't you google "Slide Guitar" and watch the videos, alot of country artists use a slide guitar in their bands. They are pretty cool!
@matco24 : Hey check out 'It Might Get Loud". Jimmy Page goes back to Headley Grange where they recorded this and other albums and shows the vaulted stair case area where they recorded this song. Awesome!
@rononeroc yes michael lee is awesome but he could not have possibly done the o2 gig..He passed away a few yrs before that gig i think it was some sort of seizure. Zep lost two great drummers Lee is a FANTASTIC player.. tragic..
I saw them on this tour, at Madison Square Garden in New York. They had a huge long intro ino this song and played it very differently than here, with a huge long intro making me wonder what was coming. I went both nights and they played it only once, but wow, was it awesome. Heck, both entire gigs were amazing!
Even when they played it live originally back in 75, they had trouble playing it live then considering the sheer amount of effort they put into it during the recording process. Hence why it was dropped from their set after a few shows.
I actually don't like this version with all the changes. I would never give them a thumbs down of course, after all it Led Zep! I like the original version..
@jimihendrixtribute the orginal blues song was about the big floods in the beginning og the 20 centuary in new orleans. the orginal song was all about new orleans, they just turned the blues song into rock! so its like the more know version of a home town song. this is why they played it, so its nothing bad about it!
@ChrisSchokofreak The original "When the Levee Breaks" was produced and written by Kansas Joe McCoy and Memphis Minnie. The lines at the end of the song, "Going to Chicago; sorry but I can't take you", are quoted in "Going to Chicago Blues" by Jimmy Rushing. In the first half of 1927, the Great Mississippi Flood ravaged the state of Mississippi, Many people were forced to flee to the cities of the Midwest. The song focused on evacuation of more than 13,000 residents in and near GREENVILLE, Ms.
@luvthatzeppelin thx for this information, i reat in my version in any music magazine. I knew it was from Kansas Joe McCoy and Memphis Minnie but i didn´t knew the whole story!
@ChrisSchokofreak Go to Archive.org and you can download lots and lots of old 78 rpm non copyright music such as Memphis Minnie, When the Levee Breaks..., Charlie Patton, Tommy johnson, Big Road Blues...etc...
Plant sure had some moments back in '95 and '98 that sounded incredible. Even better than some of the later Zeppelin stuff on certain occassion. This a great rendition. Damn, I how I yearn to go back in time and see these guys play together again.
@iuricastro22 Gotta say doesn't matter how good this is....LP version is the track I love...heard it first as they did it...for me the best!!! Who am I to complain to Page and Plant?
kind of ironic - a song about a levee breaking performed in New Orleans :/
