  • muy grande U2

  • From 6:17 to 6:20 looks like a similar building in Chicago called MCC, a place for those on the "Uncle Sam Plan", or pre-trial detention for Federal prisoners. Am I right? Is this what is? Any New Yorkers out there want to confirm that?

  • Dear lord from 4:59 on, great stuff, I cannot stop crying each time I watch it from there on. Good work. Thank you.

  • i am indonesian and was happened twice went to New York City and worked near the ex-WTC site ... I really love the great and amazing city, though everything is sooo expensive. This song and the ending of The Gang of New York movie raise a strong feeling within me.

  • as a born and raised new yorker i will forever see the WTC in my eyes i lost family theres a odd chill i get when i pass by...for will the souls of those who were never found i shed a tear for them

  • I love this song, especially being a student architect, and this video is amazing. And I know it goes with the song, with steel hanging from the sky, and canyons of glass and what not, but there's more to America than the city, I wish some more besides that was displayed, still good though =]

  • Very haunting piece of music from U2

  • I wish I was American. I went to the US twice with my father last year. First time, we went to western America. We landed at Vegas and we had rent a car. Then, we went to lake mead, hoover's dam, and we stopped in a little village in Arizona called "Peach Springs" on route 66. Just after this, we visited Death Valley, L.A, San Francisco, and Yosemite national Park. Second time, we went to NYC & Miami. I just have to say that America is the most beautiful country I have ever seen. Will from Paris

  • 2 morons dont like america

  • Not to downplay NYC,though a fine a city, but there are other parts of America.I come from SE KY,a place full of hard working people who would serve this land at a dropped hat.Though this video is dedicated to those lost on 9/11,let us not forget ALL those lost to make America what it is today...

  • @tenfed1861 agree. NYC is like a miniature of America though. all races from all over the world came together and mixed with each other.

  • people tend to forget the TRUE AMERICANS are the ones who built America, Immigrants from all nations, all Americans who are fucked up with their stupid conservative ideals and Liberal Ideals, while you idiots are Arguing about Guns and Immigration and stupid ass Religion and country and dumb ass pointless racial Arguments, THE TRUE AMERICANS were the ones who built this nation

not based on Ideals nor views or Politics they built this country because they wanted a new life.

  • @Drcritic0 i'm not american but i agree, thats all!

  • @Drcritic0

You don't know much about American history do you? I said "much" to be nice, you don't no shit about THE TRUE AMERICANS that built this country. All of them were either very conservative, liberal or anywhere in between and most were religious. All were racist.

  • Go on the Irish!

  • @Pacitti100 pity they're in debt now.....95 billions pounds....

  • @connormcj25 hah yeah, it's a bailout and its less then 70 billion pounds! will be on faster recovery than the rest now! all we need to do is get rid of Cowen

  • @damienhayward1984 and were going to bring it down to its knees with taxation. NO TAXATION WITHOUT REPRESENTATION!!!!!!! LIFE LIBERTY AND THE PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS. 'MERICA

  • It's early fall, there's a cloud on the New York sky line. Innocence, dragged across a yellow line.

    NEVER FORGET

  • Perfect. Today on 911 this will be my tribute video. GOD BLESS AMERICA!!!!

  • I fall in love with New York when I was some months ago... It´s not from this world, its something like.. apart, where all kind of people can live together. Great song, greatter video

nice to put the dutch in it too

becasue without the dutch newyork wouldnt be the great city what it is today

  • they didnt mention french;D fucking France!!!!!

  • This is the best unofficial video that contains subtitles and pictrues from NEW YORK, It's spectacular

  • crying and crying and crying and crying over and over and over again and just once more

  • merci merci merci pour cette magnifique vidéo ...

    amicalement de Suisse

    T.P 1000

  • THank god for the U.S.A

  • I didn't realize til now that the last part of the song was about 9-11.

  • I cant keep myself after seeing this video,

Its a story, a story of a journey of hard working people,

Hard working people, honest people......who lives by the day, toil through life, breathes on.

When something strikes they are the ones who lose it,soldiers die outside their homeland, ensuring freedom to many,

Poeple who does mistakes and knows to ask forgiveness then,

    Bond by unity and brotherhood.

We wont go quietly into the night,

we wont vanish without a fight......

We will live & die happily.

  • USA is the greatest country. And I'm not an American. Reasons?

    1) first country where you could easily achieve everything even if you had no money in your pockets... with hard work.

    2) the country helped world to win WW1 and WW2... especially WW2, if not for America, Hitler would've won

    3) US made sure that USSR never managed to make all the world submit to socialism... European countries were weak and scared of Soviets...

the fact is, because of US and its armed forces world is a safer place..

  • lkrnpk, do not forget US defeated Napoleon and Chingis Khan as well!!!

  • @lkrnpk

Define "Win" WW2 - The moment Hitler attacked Russia he lost, what America did was ensure that the West of Europe stayed democratic and free, without the US, Hitler would still have lost, or plea bargained with Russia but America would have no influence and no trade in Europe. Don't think I am putting down what America did but the overall effect is not "without USA, WW2 was lost" but rather, "with USA, Europe stayed out of Russian control".

  • @Gobtik

i know this was written two months ago but who cares.

u make a good point but remember hitler penetrated all the way to the soviets doorstep. all the way to stalingrad. he just forgot the lesson history teaches, he made the same mistake napoleon did. both underestimated the bitter russian winter. reason y russia fought so poorly was cus stalin fired/killed all of his good generals lietenants and so on. russia lost more soldiers and civilians than all the other countries put together!

  • @lkrnpk 1)Ever heard of Sir Alan Sugar? Hes a self made millionaire from the UK who came from a poor family.

    2) U say the US won WWII, so youre implying that the US was the only country to oppose Germany and the Axis of Evil. Well hers a newsflash, WWII started in 1939 not 1941when the Americans joined.

    3) U say the US opposed the USSR while the European countries were weak and scared. Well ofc they were weak, unlike the US they were still recovering from WWII.

  • the rest of the world hates us cause their not us...note that other countries and others nations have done far worse then america but yet everyone hates up

they hate us for dropping the atomic bomb but at the same time fail to mention what germany did to the jews...why

because they hate us...they hate us because their not us

  • @Bklyn7l8 Listen here, i am an American, but im 75% Irish and i even have to say that back in the day, America was a new place of wonder, but we were also very controling yet unruly at the same time, at the time we were both the best and the worst..... but since then we've gotten better.

  • @chouse1019 you're so stupid.

  • There are dark sides in all Countries in the World! Not only in America! First, if we are Non-Americans, like me, I´m German and my Country has got a very dark Part in the History, we have to look at our own history!

  • great video:)

  • Im not american and have never been there before, but the last images make me feel sad cause S11.

    Great song, Great version!

  • It is the greatest, even though I do love my homeland.

    P.S.: I am NOT a U.S. citizen!

  • America is one of the greatest countries in the world. Not necessarily because of what we are but what we have the potential to be. Cynicism is the cowards way out. It is easy to criticize, but when was the last time you write a congressman or tried to be a positive force in your country creating the change you want to see. Don't give up hope friends. We are great and we have the potential to be greater.

  • America is Jesusland......any politician who wants to succeed has to pretend he or she believes in god.

America is number 1 exporter of jesus freaks and christian fundamentalists to the world.

  • Great country but no health care...They finally elect someone with a brain that is trying to change that and they do not want it because the other parts of the country elect morons in the senate who shoot it down because insurance companies and greedy doctor`s will not get paid as much! Thank god I live in CANADA!! Hang in there Barack Obama!

  • USA = LIBERTY

  • Can you blame the world for hating America?

First you arm the Terrorists and put the Talibans at the throne and Islamified the Middle-East in fear of Communism and Soviet-friendly governments, then you turn against them after the Cold War and invade their countries and steal their oil.

Push in with disregard to the consequences, shoot around and then pull out..

    It's the American Way!

  • At 2:21 why the word "Columbia" is written in reverse way on the man's T-shirt?

Maybe this moment was shot by right-angle spy mirror lens attachment :)

  • well spotted!

  • brill song

  • Interesting interpretation of the song. I'd always thought it was about America as a dream born out of a loss of innocence, not the other way around. Nice vid.

  • Best Country in the World, Hey from Great Britian

  • Best country in the world???

    I don´t think so, man.

I´d rather live in Sweden, France Switzerland or Spain.

America may be the best country in the wold...but only if you are millionarie.

If you are just a normal person...there other much better countries to live.

  • The best version.

  • Comment removed

  • Don't mean to be picky, but is there a version of this with a more clear beginning? Either way, I'm using it as a topic for an essay...Thanks for posting it!

  • great song

  • I loooove NY <3

My dream since I was 10 years old..

  • 8 years ever ...

  • my bedroom window as a child superimposed Lady Liberty over the WTC-- they both served as my guidon every single day as i went to and from school.

    my North Star.

    8 years on?

    i'm still bereft.

  • @androydnyc I was reading online about a television presenter whose home flat was within viewing line of the Twin Towers, until September 11th 2003. Like you, he can't see them anymore either.

Now he has a view right through to the Statue of Liberty. He says you can't really beat that. xxx

  • @ScarabD

    yeah, uh, no.

you didn't see the statue from midtown, rockaway, jersey-- you saw the trade center.

    it's not a patriotism thing, it's a NYC thing.

  • Thanks from a New Yorker and American.

  • I still cry every time I see the twin towers fall...I can't wait to see the new tower they plan on building. It'll be absolutely beautiful

  • adorei tudo e as imagens principalmente...

  • wow! wonderful video! I lived in NY for 6 months and seeing this video made me very emotional.. well done!

  • i love this music

  • very good (BRASIL COMENTARY)(2)

  • very good (BRASIL COMENTARY)

Net in New York geweest. Vreselijk die aanslag. Ik begrijp nu hoe America zo groot is geworden.

  • Yes

  • que hermoso video vA A MIS FAVORITOS

  • hats off

  • Those last images of the WTC being built was very moving...

  • mar7yan, the people who built america kicked your guys ass already didnt we? we didnt have no fancy dressed fruity red army eather, we had home rifles and pitchforks and still sent you guys pack'en, so fuck off....

but america inst and never will be the same, 100 years ago crime has not changed, gangs still pray on the weak, police are corrupt, and the people who lead this country are never worried about others, only in there cash is what owrries them, cant blame them really....

  • well hes half right...sorta

  • its sad but mar7yan is right people in our country today are nothing like the people who built up america they worked their asses off in hopes of finding the american dream and that was to make sure that their kids could live a better life then them....now it seems like the american dream is to have a nice car a new sidekick or bigger breasts....its pathetic.

  • You are so right.

  • Good video but this song has nothing to do with 9/11.

  • the last lyrics are a reference the the manhattan skyline on the day.

  • Hi there! It has nothing to do with the destruction of 9/11. But I would say that people who build one of US's prides were Americans. It is somehow shown at the very end of "Gangs of NY", the small shouses turns in small buildings, turning into larger buildings ... and to skyscrapers.

By the way, there is a version w/o the very last part.

  • Then according to you, what do the following lyrics imply:

"It's early fall. There's a cloud on the New York Skyline. Innocence- dragged across a yellow line."

At the Oscars, these lines were changed so the sociopolitical implications wouldn't offend anyone.

  • wonderful !!!

  • hahahah bono funny guy

people that build america are the same people

    that destroying america

    God curse America !!

    greetings from europe

  • u say europe, but u r an arab scum XD!! no wonder why u hate america XD!

  • Ame

  • America

  • God Bless America.

  • It's still the greatest country in the world to live in, and always will be....so fuck all you jealous people...fuck you twice

  • 92 million Americans have low to very low literacy skills, you don't say! Greatest Country in the World? 2nd Highest Polluters, Most Gun death, never won a war against a country without help, suspect human rights record (see rcourche204 comments below), George Bush, You've just caused the world financial misery, you stole other countries language and laws, and claim credit for them. There's a lot to love. Only 22% of Americans have passports. Good!

  • Umm you are wrong china is a bigger polluter then America. We are just a bigger country then most others so we have bigger problems then smaller countries.

  • Hence '2nd highest polluter'.....

  • 1- People are not always responsible of the outcome. People who do have power DO.Let's try work hand in hand, Wherever we come

2- If you teach people, they'll learn

    3- Liberty to hold a gun: it's a choice

4- Polution:Australia is doing very good!UK too by the way.

5- Go to militaries cimeteries & pray for 416 800 of GI who died to save you & me. Never forget from where we come.

  • I disagree with Stig25uk, but your behaviour is the same, in the oposite way... There nos one place to be happy in. The world is much more larger ...

  • Awesome video. The ending musical piece is the best. Good Job!

  • a very higly creative video! Very nice pieces of videos, despite the begining that is not of good quality.. Best music video so far!

  • this video is absolutely fantastic, would you mind uploading a high res version on a hosting site like rapidshare?

  • Where can I find the full song from 5.00 and later? It was featured in "Gangs of New York" and I only have the normal version.

  • gangs of new york is an amazing film..seen it so many times...probably one of martin scorceses best films and daniel day lewis' best role..one of my faves if not my faourite

  • I watch dozens and dozens of videos everyday and I've to say this is one of the most beautiful and touching video I already saw! That's brilliant! The end is amazing! And made me cry!

  • I LOVE AMERICA!!!!!!!

  • used to be such a nice counry....humanity has got to reconnect

  • Can you tell me the name of the remix that kicks in at 5:00. I really like the backing music there.

  • It's the instrumental version of the Hands That Built America. You can hear it at the end of Gangs of New York, I just got it off a video on here

  • @MrBlue006 me too MrBlue. End of Gangs of New York + this song = Perfect soundtrack.

  • listen here codychol you've alot of growing up to do kid. i bet you old man and dear get paid to do their jobs? does that mean they deserve to get killed doing it? you little shit! I'm totally anti-american foriegn policy! that does'nt mean i or anyone should condone the killing of innocent people from all around the world. anyway its a song about immigrants in the early 1900's not the twin towers Mrblues006 was just puttin his (very well done) spin on things. you LITTLE shit. grow up!!!!!!!!!!

  • If you watch Gangs of New York it gives you a better idea about the people it means in the song

  • @MrBlue006

    treu

you gotta see movie to understand the song

  • its funny how europeans always think they "built" america. The first residents had an entire society - we had laws, teachers, doctors, religious leaders. It was an entire society but because it wasn't a "Christian" society westerners thought my ancestors were nothing more than savages and yet had they not bent over backwards to help the pilgrims survive the brutal winters there would never have been the western world that exists today

  • They still put themselves in a lot of danger. They couldn't have really predicted that the towers would collapse but they stayed where they were needed and really going against your gut feelings to do what you know is the right is in it's own right an unselfish act.

  • I bet even if you were paid £100,000 a year to save peoples live you still wouldnt have the courage to go up in the WTC after the planes hit..Youre obviously not old enough to understand what being selfish really is i.e the American government..not starting a conspiracy discussion you know what i mean

  • Awesome video for awesome tragedy

  • A considerable number of American presidents were from Irish American ancestry.....11 of them from Ulster heritage .............eg, Richard Nixon, Woodrow wilson,Theodore Roosevelt, William mckinley,Andrew Johnson,James Buchanan....etc

  • Thank you New York...

  • Is that Michael Stipe in 0:14? What is he doing here?

  • grabbing a coffee and a bagel from a shop on 34th street?

  • "Its early fall, theres a cloud on the New York Skyline." So Poignant, so moving and so haunting. And written before the attacks.

    GOD BLESS NYC.

Never forget that true heroes died and survived that day.

  • They weren't written before the attacks, they're specifically about them 'It's early fall...'

  • sorry - coz its on the best of 1990-2000 album I thought it was written pre 2000.

Doesn't take it away from the song or the spirit of it though.

  • Didn't know it was on that album. All i know is that line was written specifically for the sept. 11th attacks and no it definitely doesn't take the spirit away

  • Remember 9/11! The Victims should never be forgot!

  • A moving rhapsody to all that is good about America.

This September 11, I hope everyone, Americans included, remember what America REALLY stands for...

Hope, progress and the triumph of human ingenuity.

  • Very nice vid,thanks for uploading=]

This is one of the best from U2:)

  • Amazing song and good video

But Amerigo Vespucci was the first European to discover The America's which are named after him not Columbus.

  • not true... need to study some more.. Amerigo Vespucci was a cartographer, the first one to go around Latin America and draw its map, hence the name. And, technically, Colombus was not the discoverer of America either, the vikings came before, and also, of course, native americans many centuries ago...

  • It shows who build up America!

  • wtf, the guy at 1:23 is a sikh, not hindu!

  • bellissimo...non ho parole...

  • so beautiful with a longtailed piano!love this beginning

  • That was a really good video, with a powerful ending featuring the WTC.

  • Thats Martin Scorcese at 2:13, sitting in the back. This is acene from the legendary movie Taxi Driver 1976.

  • Great job on the vid.

  • this is one of the best movie soundtracks ever, great film too

  • What a beautiful fucking video.

  • this video made me cry !!!! absolutely beautiful..Im proud to be a NYer !!!

  • What about the Germans and Poland that helped building America?

  • Poland built America? Haha, nice joke

  • england discovered america :D

  • it was actually an italian depending on who you believe in Colombus or Amerigo Vespucci

  • no the vikings had settlements in novia scotia and there are some new discoveries of chinese belongings in california.

  • Uh..... No? XD

  • I´m sorry! The Whole World, wherever they come from, had built America! Obama for President! Take your Boys and Girls out of Iraq! This is a senseless War! I don´t hate America, but I hate Bush and Mc Cain! Mc Cain means only that you, the young american Generation, had got more american victims in a senseless war! Do you, the young Americans want to stay there for 50 or 60 years?! If yes, than vote Mc Cain? If you want a better America, which been respect in the World, than vote Obama

  • Germany is the next European Soccer Champions

  • mala suerte tio

  • Some songs may be immortal. This one is one of such songs.

  • this video this makes me so proud to be an American...

  • pierdolony Silverstone zbuzył WTC zabijajac tylu ludzi a teraz postawi sobie nowy wiezowiec za odszkodowanie i Iraq >>>żygac mi sie chce

  • I hope for the young Americans that Obama become the next US President, because he knows who build America! Bush doesn´t knows who build America

  • Usa and Italy forever friends

  • What about the Germans that helped building America?
