The only advantage I see to a 9mm is the mag capacity is higher. HRT uses .45 acp 1911s and the rumor is so does Delta.

@SharQus if you are looking for close combat, the .45 is actually beter, since it is larger and slower, it fragments more inside the target and has less chance of going thru and hitting someting undesirable to hit, specialy if you use hollow points

@predatortheme i think that one point of view is that, on one hand you have a high caliber, high velocity round that can tear apart your limbs with a single shot, that is actually deadly, since if you dont die beacuse of the shot youll bleed to death, on the other hand, you have low calibers, low velocity rounds, that are as deadly as any other weapon, if used correctly and precisely, thats what the guys train in the special ops, hitting where you want to hit (not aways you want to kill)

I've shot plenty of weapons in my time (hence I'm also a Master At Arms in the Navy). Long story short, the MP5 is a very good firearm. Though, I'm much more hands on with other weapons since I'm not SRT, I'm more familiar with the 9mm.
Truly, I'd highly prefer the .45 over the 9mm any day when it comes to pistols when it comes to neutralizing a target. 9mm rounds aren't as effective as the .45, but still lethal when it comes down to self defense and proper use/knowledge.

@Danro05 The kinetic energy different between 9mm and .40 is miniscule. Most .40 S&W loadings are around 490 to 530J. There are quite a few 9mm loadings, specifically the +P stuff the military shoots, that are more powerful than .40 S&W. I guess people think that since .40 is a shortened 10mm Auto, it must have some of that balls to the wall power. It doesn't.

The difference between even a 9mm and a .45 ACP is miniscule compared to the difference between pistol and rifle rounds. The big advantage of .45 ACP is that it doesn't over penetrate, that's why I use it in my self-defense pistols.

@SharQus if you are looking for close combat, the .45 is actually beter, since it is larger and slower, it fragments more inside the target and has less chance of going thru and hitting someting undesirable to hit, specialy if you use hollow points

@predatortheme i think that one point of view is that, on one hand you have a high caliber, high velocity round that can tear apart your limbs with a single shot, that is actually deadly, since if you dont die beacuse of the shot youll bleed to death, on the other hand, you have low calibers, low velocity rounds, that are as deadly as any other weapon, if used correctly and precisely, thats what the guys train in the special ops, hitting where you want to hit (not aways you want to kill)

I've shot plenty of weapons in my time (hence I'm also a Master At Arms in the Navy). Long story short, the MP5 is a very good firearm. Though, I'm much more hands on with other weapons since I'm not SRT, I'm more familiar with the 9mm.
Truly, I'd highly prefer the .45 over the 9mm any day when it comes to pistols when it comes to neutralizing a target. 9mm rounds aren't as effective as the .45, but still lethal when it comes down to self defense and proper use/knowledge.

@cesarmagnum The .40 isn't that good of a round. It really doesn't pack any more punch than +P 9mm and it's larger so you have less capacity. The only automatic pistol rounds that matter are 9x19mm, .45 ACP, and the monster 10mm Auto.

@Danro05 The kinetic energy different between 9mm and .40 is miniscule. Most .40 S&W loadings are around 490 to 530J. There are quite a few 9mm loadings, specifically the +P stuff the military shoots, that are more powerful than .40 S&W. I guess people think that since .40 is a shortened 10mm Auto, it must have some of that balls to the wall power. It doesn't.

@Danro05 Not necessarily, most of the 9mm ammunition that I own has more muzzle energy than the majority of .40 S&W ammunition you can buy. The difference between even a 9mm and a .45 ACP is miniscule compared to the difference between pistol and rifle rounds. I like the .45, on the other hand I'm deluded enough to believe that one round of .45 ACP will drop a guy every time. The big advantage of .45 ACP is that it doesn't over penetrate, that's why I use it in my self-defense pistols.

In that case, velocity is actually fairly important because you want the projectile to expand properly and create a larger wound channel. Or, better yet, fragment. Apparently you've never heard of the word 'magnum'.

Not to nitpick but the seals aren't the highest level of specwar in the us. I Think we can all fully agree that they are 1 of the military's top unit. But I'm an active ATF agent and I know from working with the CIA that they possess the most elite of elite group of men. Trust me , if you research the best of the best you will see that I know who and what I'm talking about.
