These programs are only designed to keep that from happening. Planned parenthood and other programs are designed to help keep people from needing that help. These programs need to be funded first.

How do you define success? Perhaps if you have very low standards and you don't believe in programs being run efficiently and cost effectively, then it is a success. I am a young houstonian who once considered himself pretty liberal. I thought that when Obama was going to take office, he was going to lead us into an office of new policy, an enhanced economy, easier attained student loans, war solutions, and a plethora of other things, but i was very wrong. Believe me we need to do double or tripple what we have done to protest in the past because the media does NOT want to comment or show what happened.. they wont put it on the news. I can respect that. I grew up in a trailer park in Michigan and trust me my views were narrow minded, racist, anti government, and hypocritical. I chose to do better too, some didn't. But I don't look back them or my former self with contempt. That was me and when I was in it I really knew nothing else. I would rather be an example to others, not try to belittle or oppress them. Kind of like ex-smokers who throw a fit over the slightest hint of smoke - annoying.

There were those that had more money than I did that I have surpassed in life and therew were those that had less than I did that have surpassed me... IMO, That view doesn't allow a solution. It's childish to say, "I did it why can't they?" I agree government money isn't a solution either but it is an attempt. But all I get from you is "me". People need to believe that if they do work hard things will get better. When you feel oppressed in some way (I do at work) those beliefs are not realistic to you.

It's not a childish view, it's a realist's view... rewarding bad behavior, i.e., taking away consequences for poor choices, only serves to facilitate MORE poor choices. Not necessarily from that individual but from others who now see that the consequences to those actions are not so bad, thereby costing the taxpayer more money in the long-term.

I agreed with you when about government programs in ghettos. This has not been proven to work, at least the way it's been done. My point was that YOU obviously found a solution that worked for you but I don't agree that it can work for everyone. You're in a higher position than some but others might look at you with the same contempt and wonder why you pay less tax than them. For many bad choices didn't get them where they are birth did, whether their poor or rich.

Take the amazing government run welfare and wic program program, started off as a program to provide unwed mothers with assistance in raising their families. The bad decision here being: having unprotected sex and consequently a baby, when you cannot afford it. So the gov't steps in to help and as time goes by, people that may want to get married, realize it's financially beneficial to simply live together instead of getting married and losing the aid that the mother can get. so get this stat

Again I don't believe those programs can fix the problem but I also don't think the gov. thinks that either. We cannot have babies dying because they do not have food in America. These programs are only designed to keep that from happening. Planned parenthood and other programs are designed to help keep people from needing that help. These programs need to be funded first.

after the expansion of welfare and wic in the late 60's births to unwed mothers rose overall but in the black community, they went from 17% in 1960 to 73% in 2000. In the white community, the number went from 5% to 26%. Do you think it had something to do with removing the consequence of bad decisions? When bad behavior is rewarded, you get more of it!!

Look, I'll give you just a few examples: Many trips to the moon, the postal service, army, navy, coast guard, air force, splitting the fucking atom, a really kickass hwy system. The government does big things extremely well. It just can't fix people that's where it fails. Rampant welfare? about 98.5% of us don't need it. C'mon.

How do you define success? Perhaps if you have very low standards and you don't believe in programs being run efficiently and cost effectively, then it is a success. But private companies have always and will always be able to keep costs down as opposed to the government. Why? Because if the government should fall short in their business model, they simply raise taxes, the populace have no choice when it comes to paying them. Private businesses do not have that luxury.

Actually, I said by taking control and realizing that you are responsible for where you end up in life, you won't feel like a victim. There are legitimate victims in society, but most of the "victims" that i've had the pleasure of meeting are just whiners who look at what others have and think they deserve that also, without knowing or even attempting to put the effort forth that the "oppressor" has put in. Our gov is good at running things...INTO THE GROUND! Protests are happening everywhere. However our gov plans to put a stop to them thru WHO (declared Pandemic Level 6), which gives our GOV the right to declare Martial LAW, even tho this is a mild flu season compared to others in the past...yet they refused to close the border.
Martial Law allows our gov to forbid public gatherings...including tea parties (07/04/09) and the Capitalist March on Washington, scheduled for Sep. 11 thru 14.
