@bbnn90 Seo Taiji has no boundaries regarding music genres, he's a musician who always makes the difference in Korean music scene since his debut, he's the father of modern K-pop, because he basically created it, and when everyone else wanted to do k-pop, he changed music genre, he's always experimenting new things, and the lyrics for his songs are mostly about social issues rather than conventional love affair between man and woman, that's why he's called "Cultural President of Korea".

@ALANSE7EN seotaiji's lyrics take forever to translate (well not really but it's really hard) b/c his lyrics are like poetry and he uses really complex imagery.... it won't be easy to find accurate translations that actually shows what he's talking about in the song (since you also need to interpret what the lyrics means)
What a great song...I personally love how Mr. Taiji has songs that fall on the really hard side while others that are just casual, alternative rock style. It's great. Also I love his videos. Alwa ys has beautiful visuals, great cinematography, and I love how he always ends the MV/PV even if the song ended long before. I guess that just tells you that he's a man who's unbelievably passionate in the arts.
I used to love his music, still do but the thing is obviously his music/mvs are full of occult shit. UGH dissapointed I hope he didn't sell his soul, like Marilyn shit mason actually did -_________________- the Korean cultural icon STJ wouldnt do this to Korea right?.... T____T
omg i can't believe he's 37! i thought he was in his 20's. i love this group! thier songs are amazing and i really adore this song above all his others!
I've listened to this song several times and it still has not gotten old. This maybe my favorite song by him to date. Who is the woman in the video? She is soooo beautiful! Thanks for posting this.
We asians, dont tend to sound like others, we experiment with our instrumentals more often, we try to invent different styles for our music, we even have our vocals more improvised every year,
Well most of asian bands and artist does this kind of drill, but not all
Get your facts straight, don't generalize or even try to emphasize the word "Asian" as if they are even the same. Don't try to take credit from others.
he's the only asian artist who doesn't retain in one style only but take up and experiment all genres and styles. Funny thing is that everything he takes up in his hand he does it right. But there are also many controversies surrounding him, don;t know if you noticed but in his latest album you can see many signs of Freemasonry.
Dir en Grey, Maximum the Hormone, Miyavi, and let's not forget HIDE(a lot of similarities between him and Seo Taiji btw)...to name a few. experimentation is not all that uncommon in Asian music.
I don't know about these bands you mentioned nor am I interested but did they make radical changes in concept and genre from album to album like Taiji did from pop to rap, classical, rock pop, nu metal, indie rock then to natural pound etc? What similarities are there between him and HIDE in musical style? Try listening to a song called "영원" from his 3rd album it's a classical BTW you can find on youtube just to have an idea how genius he is, not just musically but poetically as well.
Yes, all the bands I have mentioned made such radical changes in their music, though I doubt this argument will convince you much, seeing as you have never heard of these bands nor are interested in extending your scope of asian music knowledge. And to a certain degree, I can see the logic behind the claims you make about Taiji. Yes, he did bring about radical changes between genres. In Korea. And you need only look at hide and his music style in order to see similarities.
I've heard about these bands, the only band I didn't know was Maximum. Yeah, but did they leave one genre to another like Taiji did or they just stayed in "rock" which is the case here? I've checked hide's videos, I don't see any similarities except that Taiji is superior than him in every way lol
Regarded even higher than any artist not just asian, but western? Regarded by whom? Maybe by Korean artists. I understand your idolization of Seo Taiji, and that of his fans, but let's not pretend that he's a substantial worldwide influence, on the scale of say, michael jackson. He's undoubtedly retooled the way music is made in Korea, but unless you can show me how he's influenced music in other places around the world, your argument only pertains to Korea.
The only difference is the he's not well known, maybe because of his personality of reclusiveness. But let's make an analogy here, why videos of other Korean mediocre artists have more view counts than Taiji's, why Hide's videos have more views than Taiji's despite Taiji's superiority in musicality, but that;s moot point since there are more Japanese than Koreans and there are more unrefined people than refined.
what exactly do you mean by 'refined'? and what makes Michael Jackson's music 'unrefined'? Or is that just defined by what you personally think of their music? Because if that's the case then there's no point in me arguing over your personal opinion.
and btw i wouldn't say he made 'radical' changes to nu-metal, rock and the genres as a whole. maybe in korea, but a lot of people see korn's influence in his songs, particularly from the 5th/6th albums.
If you see what kind of people likes Britney Spears you'll know.
Also I didn't say Taiji was influential worldwide, and just because MJ was popular doesn't make a him a great musician, there's no song of him that we can consider "great".
Taiji borrowed some of korn's concept purposely but he ameliorates to make it more pleasant and listenable. And you find korn influence only on two or three songs of his 6th album.
About how Taiji is influential or not, I don't care but then who is nowadays? Musical synthesis happens everywhere. Taiji started the whole kpop thing and it's having great influence in Asia and many other parts of the world where have considerable fan base. And when mention kpop he will be remembered.
its how girls want to grow up too fast and how they want to experience that first time but they arent ready. Basically what the others said.... ruined sex.
the song is completely different. Similarity is her shoes and apple and snake. But these are Biblical concepts not unique to White Stripes-Blue Orchid.
this is directly to ahyelin. what do you mean by the theme of ruined sex? it has nothing to do with that, no relations in what the lyrics could possibly mean. so my question is, what do you mean by "ruined sex"?
well from what i think it's not much about ruined sex but tainted innocence and the girl's failure to grow up properly. first she sees a box sorta like pandora's box and tries to open it but she can't. then there is the snake which is temptation and then she sees the key to open the mystery box. When she does open it she gets enveloped in silk and the music changes, sounding like waves. This implies she's having sex. Then she wears black clothes, shedding from her innocence and cries
because she fell down from wearing heels that were way too high for her and that she was not used to... so her attempts to grow up and know more about the outside world made her fail from growing up properly...... and the fact that seotaiji draws a triangle while he is singing may also imply this content because a triangle is kinda like the shape of a woman's lower body (you know...)
I understand what you're saying but then that would have an exact opposite meaning with the lyrics. well not opposite but the meanings would be completely different.
well seotaiji did say in the interview that for Human dream MV (which i've seen. only the first part) the movie and the lyrics are supposed to be opposites. so i thought that maybe for Bermuda Triangle the same thing was happening...
well the triangle means mystery (i won't explain the body thing) and she didn't grow up properly because the box means sex. she forced to open the box, and now she's corrupted and wears black
yea it is weird but nowadays so many kids want to have sex because of curiosity (she was curious for the box) and just because they think they will be like adults if they do it.. it is like an issue in society and i think taiji did a good job showing it in his vid
the difference between Seo TaiJi and Michael Jackson is TaiJi never took that wrong turn. if you understand deeply on what the lyrics mean he's actually talking about the disappearence of something. I'm still arrogant on some of the things Seo TaiJI talks about, but i try to understand and ask my mum if she can translate and try to give a descirption. I am ashamed on being Korean and not being able to speak Korean very well.
lol. Because of YG I was expecting Seo Taiji to be a rapper but I was pleasantly surprised nevertheless.

I understand what you're saying but then that would have an exact opposite meaning with the lyrics. well not opposite but the meanings would be completely different.

well seotaiji did say in the interview that for Human dream MV (which i've seen. only the first part) the movie and the lyrics are supposed to be opposites. so i thought that maybe for Bermuda Triangle the same thing was happening...
tokee1234567 3 years ago
lol, i said its not opposite, just a different meaning!

well the triangle means mystery (i won't explain the body thing) and she didn't grow up properly because the box means sex. she forced to open the box, and now she's corrupted and wears black

yea it is weird but nowadays so many kids want to have sex because of curiosity (she was curious for the box) and just because they think they will be like adults if they do it.. it is like an issue in society and i think taiji did a good job showing it in his vid

That's perfectly right.
And nowadays.. He improves his music world and musical spectrum.
2008..as always.. He's the BEST ^^

the difference between Seo TaiJi and Michael Jackson is TaiJi never took that wrong turn. if you understand deeply on what the lyrics mean he's actually talking about the disappearence of something. I'm still arrogant on some of the things Seo TaiJI talks about, but i try to understand and ask my mum if she can translate and try to give a descirption. I am ashamed on being Korean and not being able to speak Korean very well.
