  • Add: I recommend to the newbies who want to self launch, to launch it on water. How: normaly rig-setup kite on the beach, 4,5 lines doesn't metter. But make sure that lines are correctly connected to the kite-check twice!!! When the lines are connected to the kite start rolling lines to the bar. After that grab the kite and go to the water and put it "downwind possition" like on beach. Careful that you do not self wrap the kite. Ok now unroll bar and pull one control line and you are rdy to go:)

  • Be aweare that ground is super clean no sharp object, otherwise it will make big hole to your kite...I have expirience, because once I smashed kite to the sandy, after bad attempt of backroll and kite was in U-neutral possition and I normaly launched it like on this video, but there was one sharp thing which made me 2 cm of nice clean cut, but hopefully thans to the North D2 ripstop and dacron :) that it didn't cut more -.-

  • Yup. My apologies. I stand corrected. Newbie back then. Have used this technique successfully many times.

  • yeah what he did is good, it is from the side of the window and i do it often when its not too windy, i also self land when its under 20kn. When its really windy i like to play it safe.

    Safety first kids

i do it with 4 line kite.

  • Yay! Langebaan!

  • Its not launching in the middle of the window you can see the kite surge foward to the edge and then stop when it gets to the edge, it just looks funny becaues its sooooo windy

  • He's launching at the power stroke of the wind window. You better be good, or you're going for a HUGE YOINK! down the beach.

    Herk

  • Ah if I did that launch on my beach I wouldn't have a leading edge left with all the sticks and debris. Why not sand the wingtip and go to the edge of the wind window and get the lines taunt and fly it off the ground like that? Much less wear and tear on the LE.

The method used in the video has nothing to do with it being a fifth line kite unless you are pulling in on the fifth to get the kite to flip. Friends with 4 line SLE's and bows can launch the same way!
