Yes but the difference is that in canada you have to have a license and registration. If you license and register, then it is no longer a right, it becomes a privilege. Yes there are a couple leftist states in the US that require you to register your gun like california. Getting an FFL should be completely impossible if you don't intend to use it for what is for. That is to engage in a firearms business as a principle source of livelihood or profit. Blame your local zoning boards if they don't allow businesses to operate outside of commercially zoned areas. Too many people had FFL's to buy guns at wholesale cost, and that is not what the FFL is for.

Getting an FFL is nearly impossible. I've completely given up. The problem is that they can deny you an FFL for any reason, and they don't have to tell you why. And even if they do decide to tell you, they literally just make something up. Getting denied after a six month processing period is horrendous, and then if you want to try again, you have to wait another six months. I sure hope Ron Paul gets elected, he is the only presidential candidate who truly supports the 2nd amendment.
