  • ok am i alpha in my 10w puppy's eyes?

he doesn't come up to me for a rub unless i call him, but he looks at me like he wants to play. and when i rub him he wants me to rub his belly

when i feed him i ask him to sit, i haven't taught him stay yet. and i play with with and his food while he's eating and he doesn't care

When i tell him bed i leave the door open, and if he trys to come out i say stay and he stays in there..

when i want something from him i just take it and he lets me..

  • hi Eric. you mentioned only feeding your dog twice a day. if you have a young pup should you feed it more often? i'm getting a mixed pup in a couple weeks. it"s got some golden retriever, maybe some black lab and a few other things. I want to know what you think how many times would be ok and how old would two times a day be ok. any advice would be great.

by the way i love your videos. they have a lot of info that hopefully can help me when i get my new pup. thanks.

  • @LizC1985 I feed my pups twice a day. Feeding them more often makes it very difficult to housetrain. Good luck with your new pup!

  • @eletendre1 thanks for the info. I hope I go a good job with my new pups training. I'm a calm person around dogs but a couple of my friends can get dogs really wound up and over excited(jumping, barking, ect). I've tried to ask them not to do cretin things with my old dog and i don't want them to go this to the new one too. is there something logical that i can maybe tell them so they don't play rough or freak out my pup?

sorry for so many questions, i just want to do a good job this time.

  • @LizC1985 . Hello Liz: Did you figure out how to train your friends not to untrain your puppy?. The best way is by printing out a sign and post it on your front door. You can even leave a bag of treats there and mention only the things they are allow to do with your dog to "participate in his training program" (practice sit, stay, stand, off and only give a treat when the dog has done so; ignore him if he is jumping on you and only pet him or feed him when he has sat down etc).

  • @rwplatinum thanks for the sign idea. I'll give it a try. It might help remind some of my friends that i don't want them working her up into a over excited puddle monster. She pees when she gets too excited.

  • @LizC1985 You just need to be more alpha with your problem friends LOL LOL LOL! Don't let them sit on our couch without permission, don't let them free feed from your fridge, make them serve you a beer before they can have one, etc. In all seriousness, you simply have to restrict access to your dogs. Your dogs should be put up when guests arrive, and you refuse to let them out to greet visitors until you have agreement from the visitors on behavior. No cooperation, no more greetings.

One issue with feeding only 2 meals/day (pups under 16 wks) is that large meals frequently cause diarrhea. Not good for potty training. So, I would suggest gradually weaning onto solids by age in weeks. For instance, 6-wk-old - 6 meals, 8-wk-old five meals, 12 week old 4 meals, 6 mo. old - 3 to 4 meals and so on. Pups will automatically wean themselves down to fewer meals by refusing. I say, if one can't walk a pup 4 times/day, don't accept one that young.

  • My Golden Shepperd paws me whenever she has to go out. Even though I walk her consistently 2 to 3 times a day she sometimes has to go more often and doesn't get the point across any other way.

  • im tha fist one to wright haha ha by the way nice vid a like all of themm
