its simple engineering princaples in motion, weight is everything in an accident im afraid, (permitting similar standards of crumple zones/occupent safety ratings) if you did that with two accords, but one was loaded up with 5 dummies and a weekends worth of camping gear and the other with just one dummy and a pint of milk the first accord will go thru the second identicle car like a hummer thru a daewoo matiz
@trueleech not normally but between 8-9am and 3-4pm the roads around schools are suddenly full of huge 5.0l V8 2.5 ton 4x4s. as i said in my other post if you loaded the KIT with 600kgs of bags of sand the accord wouldnt come off so lightly. does anybody know of a video showing what differance a full FIA roll cage makes? 5th gear did one with two mondeos one loaded one empty and it was like watching a tank going thru a caravan
Hondas are great cars. The Accord is the #1 or #2 best seller in the US. I have a 2006 Altima SE 2.5 which is a nice, fuel efficient car. It does the job without breaking the bank. I think I only paid $22 or $23k for in November 2006
True. Two objects moving in 40mph is like hitting a fix object in 80mph. NCAp tests are made with the cars going in 60 mph. I think these tests are to make people in US buy those huge high consumming cars but whatever
Actually, two cars crashing at 40mph is like one car hitting a fixed object at 40mph. Alternately, it's the same as one car moving 80mph hitting a stationary car that's NOT fixed.
Глупо сравнивать тест Euro NCAP с этим тестом. Поскольку в данном видео машины двигаются навстречу друг другу, а значит скорость при столкновении выше, в Euro NCAP "мишень", в которую въезжает машина, неподвижна.
I'd rather put up with higher fuel consumption, higher insurances rates, more difficult parking if it gives me a higher certainty of safety for me and my passengers.
Ok, I have a good friend who had an 03 Fit and she was hit by an ambulance that was doing 35. the car looked like this after the crash, but she was fine
@trueleech RIGHT. so your saying a 5.0 v8 with 415hp that gets 38mpg is uneconomical? and a mid size famile sedan that gets 62 mpg in the city is also bad?
@trueleech I'm from America and agree with you. This guy says everyone should drive giant cars for safety against other giant cars. Well, what if everyone drove smaller cars? Most of our government doesn't know a thing about cars. That is why they want us all to drive hybrids.
@trueleech I don't understand what you're saying. You are correct about bigger cars not necessarily being safer, but in Europe cars are much smaller, right? So wouldn't that make bigger cars seem even more safe than they seem in the US?
@trueleech Good point. But keep in mind there are some intelligent Americans who decided they dont need to have 5,000 pound suv's for their family of 3 people. I think weight & size can matter in crashes, but it doesnt mean we all need tanks. I think the best cars are mid/fullsize sedans such as a Ford Fusion...or in your case in Europe, a Mondeo.
@trueleech Implying that Europe doesn't make huge fuel guzzlers as well. Mercedes, BMW, Aston Martin, Ferrari, Bentley, Opel has some bigger cars, but honestly, American cars are bigger because gas is far cheaper here, our roads are large, and most American cars are meant for long road trips. Cruising in cars is part of our culture and we like the biggest and the most powerful car to do it in.
@geterdonein01 *shrug* I don't remember saying Europeans didn't make big cars. I remember saying Europeans do not drive big cars unless they have a large family or often carry large items. That's why most families have a small van and a city car.
@trueleech American drivers must not pay the robbery that we pay in Europe by a litre of fuel. For that reason they can afford bigger cars. If we could have the same prices, another rooster would sing to us.
I dont see why maufacuters just dont make smaller more efficent engines in cars like the accord. in asia if you want a small cheap car u can get a VW passat with a 1.8 engine, sure it may not be that fast or fun but at least it has a body of a big and much safer car than something like a Golf
man thats a good car i was a pasinger in a axsedent..we hit a pole at 140 kmh and im alive..in lots of fukin pain but no hed injerys....thnx handa.. for a safe car that took the pole like a champ...
the IIHS is now doing vehicle into vehicle test for better accuracy....the hota fit got 5 stars but in this realistic crash it was horrible which means it does matter what u hit. i would take the honda fit head on with my 92 ram 350 van
@vinvtec this isnt missleading because they are showing you from there normal crash test to a real world crash test at about the same speed but the wall is made of diffrent material then the car so thats why the test are diffrent
@vinvtec When the IIHS tests a car, they run it into a barrier. So, that simulates that it ran into another Honda Fit. The occupants do look that they would be okay, but we aren't there, so I guess we have to take their word for it.
@vinvtec all tests in my opinion when they crash cars into thoes flat steel walls or into thoes barriors is all fake. because look at the split screen when the accord hit the fit there was deffinately alot more damage done to the car and maybe alot more injuries to the driver.
@vinvtec IIHS tests cars against their own weight (that is, agaisnt a FIXED barrier). Therefore, if a car hits other heavier car, the first will always do worst than in the IIHS test. Exactly like in the video. As an example, the heavier car in the video had less deformation than in it's own IIHS crash test.
@vinvtec but at 1:25 you can seen the head rolling over his shoulder, i think if that was a human been he well be at lees whit a realy bad neck injury
@vinvtec i clearly see at 0:02 "Honda Fit Poor". okay in the car to barrier crash test, it got a good. Do you know why? NO? well here, that simulates a crash at 40% of center in to a car the EXACT size and weight of the Honda fit. The accord is much much larger and weighs a lot more than the fit.
Honda Fit = Piece of .... lol

Well in a crash the bigger/heavier car has a better chance as it has to absorb less of the energy forces.
But why not drive a volvo C30. With +- 1400 kg it aint that light but really safe.
