I just looked on google earth and New Zealand is very very close to Australia so why do you need a a340 for that journey?

It is a continuous leg from Dubai to Melbourne.

@Jacqueline850 because the journey does not start from Australia but Dubai-UAE , so its like dubai to New Zealand Via Sydney , and you know the flight from dubai to new zealand is about 18 hours long , thats why they used an a340 , and now they even use the a380

I had to suffer the DUB-MEL-AKL flight in this aircraft. The one saving grace was sunrise over the outback. Made the sore arse a bit more bearable.

That is Emirates worst aircraft, fly it long haul and you will find out!!! All Emirates aircraft have too many seats in economy and the seats are very hard and there are no foot rests.
