@399Oddball get gimp, it's free and you can practice drawing digitally on there, and you should consider getting a tablet, wacom bamboo tablet is good for beginners

I've been watching your videos over and over again about how to use value and I want to thank you so much for sharing something like this. But there's one thing that I was always unsure how to do. and that's the coloring part of it. While watching your videos are your colors overlapping each other or are they blending? I'm new to Photoshop and all it looks like to me is that you can only overlap colors. Is this true or no?

@Raphael041 No, not really. When I design character for Guild Wars I have to focus more on design and clarity. The Gaiking speedie is more like high concept that you focus on mood, lighting and overall scene. Was going so msg you for more info but unfortunately...

You say you don't recommend video games to draw from, I agree mostly - However.... I think video game CONCEPT ART is some of the coolest stuff out there to look at for inspiration.

@Bidon45 I didn't said exactly that. I meant drawing from LIFE is still better than any ref sources. Video games however, lighting are arranged by code and algorithm therefore it is not a reliable for good lighting. There are a few that have superb lighting though.

I am a concept artist, of course, I also learn from and be inspired by other concept artists.

@Neji513 It's just practice. When I first got my tablet, I spent HOURS just doing basic shapes: straight lines, diagonal line, circles, squares, ovals just to get the feel for the tool.

As far as brushes, do a search for Blur's Good Brush. It's an awesome set of brushes and washes/blenders for photoshop.
