  • Sarah Palin.

  • Patti looks absolutely creepy in the blonde wig/dress... and I mean this in a good way.

  • Im seeing this at summerstock at my local theater (theater by the sea in Rhode island) and i cant wait! Long live Evita (the musical)

  • Wow not to insult ther show but patti lupone doesnt look right with the bleached hair... i pr3efer the red.

  • From certain angles though, Patti with the blonde hair is almost a dead ringer for Eva Peron, who also (obviously) was not a natural blonde.

  • She sounds great. Did anyone notice she looks similar to Madonna. LMAO.

  • Perhaps, but she certainly doesn't sound the same!

  • Thats true ;)

  • Or rather, Madonna looks like her. ??

  • She was better than Madonna in the real deal, on Broadway! Sorry to spoil. . Madonna is great, but Patti Lupone rocked the house as Evita

  • True I know but Patti Lupone was to old for the role for the movie.

  • Yeah. . but the real Evita fans know she was the s**t, and far exceeded Madonna in the role. We remember her as truly embodying the "star quality" of Evita. Her vocal skill and acting ability far exceeds Madonna. Sorry, again.

  • This is a wondeful clip to see considering I've found so few videos on Patti LuPone as Eva Peron in Evita.

  • Patti LuPone is brilliant even in this tiny clip. Pure charisma.

  • is it Patti LuPone on this commercial? it doenst really sound like her, though i could be wrong

  • Yea thats Patti I think its just the tad distortion

  • You can like the commercial, but what a piece of crap are the lines!!! "Argentina's instant queen and overnight saint" I don't know if crying or having a laugh. What would you think if I say that Harry Truman was a "the only tyrant who dropped an atomic bomb" or Abraham Lincoln "a man who used slavery in his very own benefit"???

  • She was a whore that got power through marriage, kinda like Hillary.

  • Oh, what a deep and intellectual conclusion!

Have you heard about an ape who got power through millions of donkeys? Just pay a look at Washington right now! ... what you will see is not the script of a biased musical, but the factual truth...

  • she's not a whore!!!! OK... maybe she was, but still she was an amazing woman!

  • Oh she was a whore alright(Evita sypathizers are going to come unglued at me) she most certainly screwed her way to the top AND screwed her country by doling out the middle and upper class' money. Kinda like Hillary Clinton, but extremely butt ugly.

  • Evita slept with no more people than Harlow, Monroe, Kennedy, Taylor & a gazillion others. Secondly, anyone who has researched Argentinian history will know it's social/economic problems were severe even before 1945 & I guess exploiting women & the poor which was the norm prior to the Peron's is forgiveable but when you tax the rich, that's unforgivable. Don't blame Evita for Argentina's woes, blame the Argentines themselves.

  • The Perons added to the problems of the country by sending in goons to shake down Argentine business owners. That's what dictators do, skim off the people. So you have an complete unfair situation, where force is applied to take away from one who earned it, to give it away to another who did not. That is wrong and the should be corrected by a rebellion by the people.

  • Corruption only existed in Peronist Argentina? HaHa. What you described is what occurs today in industrialized nations- Governments taking a huge chunk out of EVERYONE's pay cheque. Try analyzing Argentina's corrupt governments BEFORE Evita- Strikes/ High poverty/Social/political unrest? When an Oligarchy run government exploits/murders/tortures their countrymen, that is acceptable? Blaming Eva for Argentina's woes is laughable. It takes more than 1 woman to ruin a country.

  • Well I'm not so sure, after all, one woman screwed it up for all mankind in the Garden of Eden. :-D

  • Hardy Har Har!! I do find it kinda coincidental that she was named "Eve"- in Spanish "Eva"!!!

    I'll give you that one.

  • UUUUUUGHHHHHH! I HATE that! Adam AND Eve BOTH screwed it up! Adam could have said we're not supposed to do that, but NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO,everyone blames Eve when Adam was just as guilty! Sorry, I'm not mad at you, I'm mad at the 'blame Eve for everything' mentality that has degraded women and placed us at a value as less than animals for millenia!

  • Can I get you anything? Coffee? Donuts? Asprin? Muscle Relaxer?

Only the stupidest of stupid people degrade women. Don't let the stupids get the best of you.

  • Continued. I do know you meant that as a joke, but it's been shoved at me for so long, that I CAN'T take it as a joke. Offense meant to the people who say women are the cause of the world's problems, not you.

  • whether she was a whore or not wasn't the issue. Her husband slept with far more many people- including a 13 year old- but no one decries HIM for that! Eva wasn't a GODDAMNED CHILD MOLESTER for crying out loud! why, if any woman has power than she MUST be a whore(biting sarcasm).

  • That bit of Peron's paedophile could never been proved, and it was fiercely dismissed by the people who knew him. Had these abused girls existed, believe me that they would have sold that history to the gutter press nationally and internationally...

  • "Those two lines would make a hell of a tagline for a musical" is what I'd say.

  • Caracarisma says "I saw Patinkin and Lupone in Evita in Southern California in the early 80s".

    Me too! Fantastic. :-)

  • okay how scard im i form last las "star quality "

  • I saw Patinkin and Lupone in Evita in Southern California in the early 80s. They were brilliant. Great clip, thanks so much!

  • Thank you for posting this! I remember it was played a lot in L.A. It was so popular that SCTV even parodied it! BTW--do you have the second commercial, with "Don't Cry For Me, Argentina?"; that one has a lot more Mandy!

  • sorry, I don't have that one.

  • OMG! I saw this commercial in 1979 and fell instantly in love with that 'gorgeous man in the beard' (I was a wee 16 YO). I screamed for my mother & said that I wanted to see that play & I didn't care how much it cost. At the time, I didn't know anything about Evita, the story or even who the guy was. All I knew was I had to see this play, just by seeing him in this commercial! This commercial was my introduction to Mandy and I've been a fan every since. Thanks for bringing back memories.

  • Whoever you are, thank you thank you thank you for posting all this rare LuPone stuff.

  • I second this emotion!! Thank you for posting :-)

  • I concur wholeheartedly! I was on the cusp of birth when EVITA (my favorite show) premiered on Broadway, so I obviously missed out on the experience. This rare TV spot is such a great treat. Thank you.

  • In 1980 my cousins took me to Times Square and we passed the Broadway Theater - I cried when no one wanted to pay $50 to get me into the matinee!! I saw this commercial once back then and had a heart attack.
