@nostalgiaspie as far as I remember the McLaren F1 GTR had the best acceleration but was behind the Mercedes CLK GTR on high speed (which was the 'fastest' of the lot if you go by high speeds). I loved the sound of the Pontiac Firebird and the Lamborghini Diablo was a pleasure to drive too! :D

I used to play this game all the time as a kid. <3 My brothers and I always laughed at the outline of this track because it looked like Barney the Dinosaur. Refresh my memory - is the McLaren F1 GTR the fastest car on the game, or is that the Mercedes-Benz CLK GTR? I always used to take the fastest car and try to beat my speed record.

Man this game was CHALLENGING. I remember the last tournaments being really demanding... You were literally scratching the board to get those last points you needed to end up first. Nice memories :P

You do it wrong. In 3:20 you can corner that at full throttle with no loss speed. At 3:39 i catch 293 km/h by 550 maranello on tuning stage 3 :)

BEST RACING GAME EVER!

But i remember i played Mersedes GTR instead of MClaren, it accelerates just a little slower but is far easily controllable car than McLaren.

They should add a DLC to Need for Speed The Run for the 1997 Mclaren F1 GTR, the Lamborghini Diablo SV and also some Ferraris

i remember i was 20000$ away from affording the mclaren, and when i finally got the money i went in to the showroom, and the game froze. i reboot it the ps1 , and it just kept freezing.... why did the disc have to get scratched it was my dream to drive this car!!! :(. if they could release this game on psn..

@josevaladez100 The game was scratched because you obviously treat the discs like crap by not handling them properly. All my psx games still play fine due to the fact that they have no scratches :D

The McLaren in high stakes had just a little too much wheel spin which is why I like the CLK-GTR better but hey that's just me :) I wish Gran Turismo would make a non race version of the CLK-GTR because I like Gran Turismo just a tiny bit more than Need For Speed but I have to admit that Need For Speed High Stakes is the best Need For Speed game out there with Most Wanted and Carbon trailing it :)

can this car be upgraded? when you race with an upgraded car against mclaren f1 your cpu rival drives mclaren and it has stripes and lowered suspension. Can anyone tell my wtf? 12 years have passed and it is still an unsolved childhood mystery for me...

I think it was those kind of situations it happen to a game when the developers don't have enough time to prepare some features to be available to players but its just a guess.
