@yes, SonofJonas, they were going to have Aragorn duel Sauron, but decided against it, because it would ruin the plot. besides we get to see a sort of duel with Sauron in the beginning, when Isildur cuts the ring off his hand, and Sauron does that awesome exploding thing. Someone really needs to do a dramatization of the Akallabeth though, just so we can see Sauron as Annatar,

Depends on which version you go by. In the book he was killed after ransacking the Shire. In the movie he was killed after Orthanc was taken

Weird. When I read the name "Voice of Saurman" in the Table of Contents, I thought that's when Saruaman would die. Anyway, did he die the same way in the movie (though sliding throats might be a bit graphic for PG-13)

nice. I don't know why, but I remembered that during the Battle of the Black Gate in RotK, they were going to have Aragorn duel Sauron, which would basicly destroy the fact he needed the ring to regain his power.

I can't decide weither it'd be cool or suckish. It'd be cool to see a duel with the main villian, but it would've also destroyed the concept.

Whether it would have or not its a rather moot point, Jackson couldn't have used Sauron - the Troll was a late addition because it took Jackson so long to realize that it was impossible to use Sauron for that part because he still wasn't completely corporeal
