I served my bowstring today using the technique learned from watching this video, with excellent results - the backserving method is really useful! Thanks for posting!
There is material made specifically for crafting bow strings. You can find it on our web site under Strings. You can also find pre-made bow strings on our web site.
who knows, the only way is to test it. I think traditional strings were made of linen, flax, or hemp. The fiber material will vary from region to region. In addition, you first need to learn the skill of making quality cordage regardless of the fiber material. Learn that first before you bother to make a bow string. Even if you use the best material, if you don't know how to braid and twist it properly you will break it.
where can u find those 5 foot long cane arrows.used by amazon tribes??..and dont tell me they dont shoot good ..cause ive already shot them and they fly great.
We don't sell those, although we do have some very nice heat treated bamboo shafts. They aren't as long as what you are looking for, however. We would recommend doing a google search.
You could, but it would take a long time and be a rather tedious chore. The serving jigs are relatively inexpensive and make the task go much, much faster.
I prefer to take my time on my serving and have a tighter jig setting but I absolutely do keep in mind this is a recurve instructional not for my compounds where I use loops solely. Any novice "do it your self-er" in archery can easily learn from this.
i used this to put string around my ping pong padle but it took longer cuz i had to put the string around the handle about 200 times but it only took me about 10 min but the end was alittle tricky it worked good tho.
Very beneficial, did it after watching several times, saved me some money.

You mention 7.5 inches total length - approx how far above and below the center of the string?
55breakin80 1 year ago
@55breakin80 - It measures approximately 3 3/4 to 4 inches above the center, and 3 3/4 to 4 inches below the center of the string.

will plant fiber such as hemp or flax.work for a 70lb yew bow?? thanx,i read it will work

We wouldn't recommend it. But if you do, use hemp over flax. Even then, make certain you use quality hemp and make a sturdy string.

Okay thanks. Maybe i'll have to buy a serving jig then. Do i have to serve the loop by hand then?
M4zku 4 years ago
This video is for crafting a Flemish String, which requires a center serve only. You don't need to serve the loops.

Thank you. I used the end tie up - very helpful.
