  • Thank you so much for posting this updated tutorial. I have EX 4 and was totally lost as to why it was not working for me. Our comic deadline is March 5th so again thank you!! --Ratgirl Productions

  • I have a question please!

I imported an imagine from my scanner. let's say it's an apple. I cropped it so theres and apple and (of course) a white rectangle around it. i want that rectangle to disappear so that i can "put" the apple on a suffice that i've drawn with having a huge white cube behind it.

    Thank you

  • @IloveLipstickJungle If you are happy with the linework as is, you can convert it to vector, which will drop out the white automatically. Or you can change the value of that layer's white to transparant, or used selections to delete the white, but either might leave a white halo around the artwork.

  • Very helpful! Thanks!

  • how would I protect my drawings from going over the gutter and bleed zone if I'm trying to draw a cover page?

  • @starryshark There normally isn't a gutter on the cover page, and you can avoid them simply by not cutting the page into panels. As well, cover pages are normally what are called 'full-bleed', meaning that the image extends past the borders of the paper and is trimmed in printing. For a regular cover, I recommend you don't use panel ruler layers at all, and that you draw all the way to the outside print margin, keeping all important elements withing the finish frame.

  • @CoffeeStained Ohh, okay I see! I tried to figure it out yesterday. I was able to find a way to mask it around the edges. I just got the program 3 days ago, so it's a little mind boggling. :3 So thanks a lot!! Oh, one more thing, so it's okay to draw on the whole page? Just making sure. ^^ Thank you

  • @starryshark You will notice the 'finish frame' which is the outermost corner markers. In between the lines of the finish frame are where you comic page should be cut. There is a slight allowance for pages to shift on a printing press before the get cut, which is about 2mm-4mm. That's what the corner markings represent. Drawing past them is a waste of effort, as anything past them (closer to the edge of the paper) will definately cut off in printing.

  • @CoffeeStained I see~ I understand now. Thank you so much for explaining this to me ^^

  • Thanks a lot! You're the first tutorial to explain it so clearly!

  • where do you get this

  • @andybots50 Manga Studio is available from smithmicro, the Debut version is available at most software retailers.

  • THANK YOU!!!

  • Thanks a lot! Your video was very helpful :)

  • Ooh, I've always stunk at doing panels -- this is much needed! :)
