there are a lot of ways to do it, I do it the long and tedious way. I use a program that is used to rip VHS/DVD's or anything with an AV cable. But there is a way to rip it straight from your computer, I just haven't figured out how to do it.
I have a program called DVD Platinum 4 that can rip DVDs to any format you want, including Mpeg, iPod, and even PSP. You can probably find it online if you look hard enough.
I know I'm responding to an old comment but I thought you may still find it useful. I plan on ripping my FLCL DVDs to my iPod soon.
