A commercial advertising pants cannot be meaningful, in any way. It doesn't matter if you recite poetry or play heart-wrenching music. Deep down, it's just about pants. Face it people, you're only buying into an illusion.
@ncodyn I liked it. I think even levis couldn't ruin Bukowski. Though it's still annoying to see that levis logo at the end so I'm converting it into a mp3 because I enjoyed the background music and the voice saying the poem.
This company is evil and this commercial is a ridiculous scam to keep the American people from knowing what Levi's did to people in the northeast in the name of corporate greed!
It's rare when you come across a commercial like this. Some people interpret it as a driving force that gets that vehicle jump started and really wants you to live life with passion. Others see it as another way to feel superior by cutting it down and pointing out its flaws. Although people may be right about certain things in this commercial, does it really serve the world the better good to ridicule it? What satisfaction or better doing are you doing by cutting things down?
@d1kiz and you obviously have a better campaign that produced... i'm sure of it?? Don't talk down on what you don't understand or that you can't create.
Look, all this stuff about religion and Levi's being an evil corporation just needs to stop. Not that you are wrong, but it's just unnecessary. Just because you don't wear Levi's doesn't mean you can't enjoy the amazing poem or cool commercials. And just because you have an issue with a few lines of the poem doesn't mean you have to freak out on the company or the people that like the poem. I don't wear Levi's, but this is still an awesome thing.
Fucking stupid religious pricks. This is a good commercial and your Christian bitching is making it worse. Im catholic and take no offense to this video. Neither should you.
@khanzka88 It's because after people find out and read Bukowski they won't give a fuck about what brand of pants their wearing. But yes I also like this recital of the laughing heart very much and the music adds nicely too.
Can´t you stop arguing? I don´t understand why always people argue about stupid things that lead nowhere. Just take this advertisement´s message and realize that it is quite right.
Fucking disgusting. Can't create something unique and meaningful yourself? Jump on the back of a genuine social movement and sell some jeans. Have some fucking integrity, and I'm not talking to Levis the company but each individual person involved with this campaign.
Okay everyone LISTEN UP! Did you hear that? Of course not. You can't hear me because I'm typing and not talking. You feel god breathing on the feather of your ear because God only talks to crazy people nowadays. Maybe because god is a senile old fool. Can any of us know much more than that we cannot know everything? But don't let faith cut out your curiosity's tongue. Call god the wind but not an old man in the sky. An agnostic doesn't know but an atheist knows enough that god isn't one deity.
I laugh, when i read comments like "let your workers of haiti go forth". But the American consumer still buys clothes not just from levis but other stores. And again when you talk about Mexican cartels and how they are so horrible! but again you are the consumer aren't you! you yanks think you have a say in everything!
@ Jackonapsp Christianity is not a religion, but rather a belief and faith in Jesus Christ. I'm happy you're not an atheist. This Levis ad clearly uses paganism to advertise and sell its product, which clearly is anti-Christian. This is we're making a statement hoping you would listen and understand.
Please know that every road will lead to God, whether your an Atheist or not. But only one narrow path will get you around Him into Heaven. And that path is believing in Jesus Christ.
Ok everybody listen up! I AM NOT A CHRISTIAN NOR WILL I EVER BE AND I AM NOT AN ATHEIST. And i would like to send a message to you Christians STOP FORCING YOUR RELIGION ON US.
@peterson7839 "God has no religion." A person who truly believes in God would agree that the only right path is to have your own personal relationship with God and show compassion for your fellow man. Your blog shows you have yet to learn that.
@safaboi1 The voice makes the ad, therefore ignoring it is simply pointless and makes the ad look silly obviously. The shots are gorgeous, fun, carefree. What we all really want to be in life, we want love, we want freedom, we want to live.
Your cynicism is really unwaranted, stop making the ad be something it isn't. Take it at face value.. Be glad Levi's are putting some thought and meaning into their adverts. This doesn't make me want Levi's, it makes me want to go and live life.
@edgarae1 here here. GOOD point. The kids who love these commercials and feel "enlightened" by its message also probably use Apple computers and iPads all the while these are built using child labor in China. Now how's that for ENLIGHTENED??
Your life is your life. Dont let it be clubbed into dark submission. be on the watch. there are ways out . there is light somewhere. it my not be much light . but it beats the darkness. be on the watch. the gods will offer you chances . know them. take them. you cant beat death. but you can beat death in life. sometimes... and more often you learn to do it. the more light there will be. know it while you have it . you are marvelous. the gods wait to delight in you .
It´s ONLY Advertising for God´s sake!!!! And it´s a kind of art, it doesnt have to be a message from above. Read more BOOKS and watch less Tv, After a while , you will undertand that ignorance is the true danger. And I agree with those who condemn cheap, enslaving tailoring. The ad is wonderful,it´s only that garbage industry puts the money.
The few individuals who dislike don't get it. Sometimes you put something on and think nothing of it, other times you put something on that really compliments you, gives you power and makes you feel…tough, sexy, invincible, type whatever comes to mind here_____ that's all this advert is trying to say, nothing more, nothing less, stop reading so much into it...gov't this, capitalism that, Lighten up! This is quite simply the worst commercial I've ever seen and yes, I've purposely found this on youtube just to say that. Perhaps, what is even worse is that people actually like this commercial...
Really really awesome ad campaign, very clever play on your emotions, made me feel like I wanted to go out there and buy a pair of levis just to have that feeling of inspiration, best add I have seen in a long time.
1) levis has always been THE brand for jeans; 2) brands should speak to your heart and soul, if they don't then eff them or eff you; 3) stand and resist, or lay down and obey, but do not try to hold a clothing manufacturer accountable for your actions. word.
@bongrust Thank You! That's what I've been thinking too! The commercial's nice, and uses a great poem, but don't go saying that your life has changed because of a Levi's commercial. That's just weird.
don't you know that if you change yourself (obviously in a good way) you're participating in a masive change in what is called your net? All the people around you would be sensitive to that change and the chances to do the same would increase.
JUst for the record it is fantasctic that you feel so pure that things like this make you feel ashamed of your generation but let me tell you that this has been said by a person who has a laptop/computer and pays for internet... what a material world XD
The poem is what makes this commercial powerful. Without it, it becomes just like every other commercial targeted at youth...forgettable. It was written by Charles Bukowski, and entitled The Laughing Heart. Kudos to Levis for making an excellent backdrop to an excellent poem.
Every time I watch this I cry. It's so liberating and independent. I love it and it's so revolutionary. This is my motto from no on... I live by this commercial
Could have been a great commercial if credit was given to the words that made it so powerful. Levi's did not write that poem nor did Wieden + Kennedy. And I wonder how Bukowski would have regarded an anti-capitalist sentiment being used to sell something. Its all very strange - a bastard son of art really.
The message that it gives is amazing, really inspiring. I don't care if behind it there is a brand or not, I do care about the meaning and how it grounded me when I hear it.
I am pretty sick of all the they don't do anything to change the world... well it changes my world for 1 min. and I am sure this is the right way to change everything, encouraging people to embrace, to run their lives...
@isamanostijeras this IS the zeitgeist. Instead of changing the world, all i want to do is change myself, get some faux spiritual experience, and ignore the material reality around me. ie tibetan spiritual epiphany. Can we as a generation get ANY stupider?
Tré belle vidéo avec de belles images de plus cette publicité est renforcé par la récitation du poeme de charles bukowski the laughing heart. Quelle beau message despoir.... Pour tous les jeunes
I watch this every time I forget. Every time I forget that life is beautiful and worth living and full of opportunities. Every time I forget that I am marvelous, that I can create the light, and that the gods wait to delight in me. I watch this when I'm doing homework at midnight and I feel so far from alive. And then I remember.
this is such bullshit, congratulations!

watch this ad carefully, without the melodramatic voice in the background.
- the sea rolling in
-a woman looking over the city at a sunrise wearing wings
-a protest march
- A GUY USING A TABLE AS A BOAT!????
- running around in the beach in underwear
- throwing feathers in the air and partying
- taking a stand against the law
- cheap love
I'm so enlightened now, cheers Levis. I'm now going to become a hippie and in turn be a ridiculously nonconstructive member of society.

The Levis brand rather than do this kind of video, could get to the ghettos and give or donate clothing to people that more need it....
Then the nice poem will be better...

Levis should give their marketing department a raise.

@CollegeMusic99 Send that raise to Wieden + Kennedy, they're the class act behind these amazing ads.
