The number of plates optimizes a device for voltage. The surface area optimizes for amperage.

The true measure of any device of this kind, is its performance efficiency. The all important MMW number. How much gas can you produce for a given amount of energy going in.

This measure levels the playing field and permits a fair comparison of the performance of a 101 plate device with a 30 plate device.

Bob Boyce was building 101 plate devices years ago.
