  • in the book #3 pa points east and says that's the verdigris river. that would be imposible. the river is on the other side of independance ks.too far to be seen from the little house.

  • We lived not far from Laura and Almonzo's house in Mansfield, Missouri when I was a kid and went there many times (which was pretty cool). It, too, was very small (the staircase leading upstairs, as I remember it, was very narrow and the ceiling was low and you would always wondered how they could feel comfortable in such a small house.

  • Where was the grocries shop belong to Mrs & Mrs.Anderson?

  • Just about a 20 minute ride outside Nashville Tn. is a city called Murfreesboro and "The Boro " has a replica of a small town much like the one you see in the LHOTP TV Series . It's free and you can't walk into the cabins but you can stand in the doorway (fireplace smell " and go into the one room church/school. The church also rents out for weddings. Don't mean to advertise but just thought that some of u little house fans might enjoy Cannonsburgh . I used to live there and visited often .

  • of course the land is still very much like it was back then, except for maybe more trees, but the land would still be the same.

  • My Grandma and grandpa got married there! LOL

  • Hi JoyRider50 - as I mentioned in one of the comments awhile back, this was my first attempt at a handheld video, and I really didn't think it would work inside because it's a bit dark in there. In hindsight, it probably would have been fine, so I wish I'd known better at the time.

  • Why didn't you video tape the inside of those buildings? I would have liked to see the inside of the school and especially the house.

  • Oh man. I read those books about 100 times. :)

  • @ctw1966 I loved the books! :)

  • Hi nickwalco - Baby Grace wasn't born yet during the time the Ingalls lived near Independence. Thanks for watching!

  • @SheilaScarborough Baby Carrie was born though.

  • 6 people... you forgot baby Grace Pa, Ma, Mary, Laura, Carrie, Grace

  • why would they reconstruct the little house with bugs that's stupid

  • why wouldn't they make the house the same as the one that was in the show.

  • I just visited this site not long ago.Interesting site and local history.

  • Wow. Totally cool. Thanks :)

  • little house on the prairie was filmed in california

  • I used to live in Independence, but I had to move to a different town because my family got a divorce this year

  • I just bought the season 1 collrction and intend to get all others sometime in the future. Watching this series brings me such joy and peace, and think that was a tough life. I am 39 years old and somehow i miss life lived that way, despite the conditions. Simple life......

  • did she really say "are you not stupid"?!!

  • i live in independence :)

  • Interesting,

    I have family in Indepence.

  • that was pretty neat thanks shareing this on you tube

  • thank you!

  • Now it's time to move on to Greensburg Kansas to see the world's biggest hand-dug well & the terrifying obliteration of what the worlds biggest tornado can do to a downtown community, then it's time to move on to Mead Kansas to see where the Dalton Gang use to hang out, then on to Liberal Kansas to see Dorothy's home, then back east to Coffeyville Kansas to see where the Dalton Gang Died.

  • You didn't go INSIDE!! I wanted to see the interior!

  • omg i have been there so many times for picnics and stuff its great out there, really peaceful

  • i live right near there. the house is not the original house, but the post office and school house are supposed to be the original ones. but the house is just a reconstruction. and it is so small that you can fit maybe 3-4 people in there... lol

  • Hi bluzdawg,

Actually, I did go inside, but didn't shoot video because it was really dark. I'd just started playing with a video camera at the time, and I didn't think it would be able to show anything in such low light.

There's not much in the one room; fireplace, table & chairs, a couple of beds and a storage trunk. Not the original Ingalls items, but representative of the times.

  • actually, you'd be surprised how much an electronic video cam will pick up - check out our vid # 17 - the one just before this - we went thru a tunnel about a mile long, and i was astonished at how well it captured the light...

  • Hey - how come you didn't go IN?!?
