@0dertiener best comment i've read today. everything is about torque. without torque good luck. for eks the 535D vs 535i the diesel smokes it. 6 hp less 70 kg more. but much more torque. so next time u idiots go to buy car think a little of that first
No it isn't. Explain why a stock 335i beats the 335d. Look here fuckwit:

Now some numbers:

@BigGee84 ahh ok u know why? cause the 335i has 20 hp more than the 335i. so why dont u compare the same power? like 535i and 535d f10. the diesel is a lot faster. ask everybody u want and you will se. you need to realalise that diesel is the futre
@teodor1403 But you said "everything is about torque"!!! Are you now implying that power is more important than torque? Because that certainly isn't what you suggested in your other comments.
@BigGee84 torque is everything. what is the diference with the 535i and 535d? the diesel is 6 hp less. i weighs 80 kg more, and still it is faster? so you say that have nothing to do with torque?
Now add that to the fact that the 330i is much quicker than the 330d, despite having WAY less torque and we can only come to one conclusion: TORQUE MEANS FUCK ALL.
I own both these cars models, the M3 is significantly faster even in a stright line. My M3 has the limiter removed and will reach 160+ mph on a certain road between two roundabouts , my E61 will hardly touch 150. (the M3 does 150 in 1/2 the distance) also I do about 8 mins dead in the m3 on the nurburgring, the 5 would be lost in the rear veiw mirror after 10 seconds. As a motorway cruiser the 5 series is a joy, smooth and very quiet, plus the chip makes it pretty fast but trust me not M3 fast !
@Polofreak6n2 I never said i hated the guy don't take it to serious. And I know he means that he car which has the most horsepowers isn't always the fastest.
I have an E46 330i and the only performance item I have is the Signature Motoring performance CAI for about $160. The performance kit adds around 13.5HP on the dyno, sounds freaking great, and installs in under 30 minutes. Highly recommended.
-13.5 HP increase
-Lifetime filter
-SOUND AWESOME
-30 min. install time
Aside from the power gain, the SOUND is amazing at higher RPM but sounds normal in regular driving. I’m thinking about added high-flow exhaust next.
Horsepower is a measure of torque over time. A diesel makes more torque than a comparable gasser, and it's torque that you feel in your back. That chipped diesel has a good 150 ft / lbs or more on that high strung V8, lower in the powerband. That gets a body moving. Gimme diesel any day!
stock 535d has 272 hp and 414hp,,it weighs 1700kg its automatic ,,it does 0 to 100 in 15 flat ,,. A m3 e46 343 hp 1500kg 0 to 100 13 flat... Sorry remapped 535 needed to beat a m3 .

Nice.. my bet around a circuit would again be on the diesel.. you just have so much torque from very low rpm out of every corner. Unless you've driven a properly chipped diesel you have no idea.

e46 started in wrong gear. This happens. The driver just needs to believe that downshifting one more gear wont blow the engine. 8k rpms takes skill to fully take advantage of.
I love my 328i. Only mod is a Signature Motoring performance intake kit. They run around $170 and add up to 9HP in the E46 323/325/328 and up to 13.9HP in the 330. That's about $17/per extra HP... A good value for the extra oomph. General HP increases are shown:
In other words, the 535d won (assuming both cars were kept within their respective power bands) because of greater power/weight, and possibly less drag among other things, being a newer car.
You've misinterpreted the outcome entirely. No engine, no matter how much torque it develops, is ever going to outperform a more powerful engine. It is impossible.
The accelerative force a car experiences is dependent on two things: Power and gear ratio. Doubling torque while keeping power constant would result in half the engine speed, and therefore doubly long ratios. The effect on wheel torque? NOTHING! Don't confuse power delivery with speed.
@linn1000 "but on the way up to that figure is measured in torque, over rev the engine and the power falls away"
You've missed a huge piece of the puzzle, namely gear ratio and its effect on WHEEL torque. High torque engines tend to have longer gear ratios, resulting in similar wheel torque to that of low torque engines of the same output. Ask yourself why this 535d, despite having probably double the torque, barely edges out the M3.
@linn1000 "a car in the same gear with a high torque output with a flat curve will at first be very powerful and will need to change up a gear much less."
Wrong. High torque engines tend to have shorter power bands and therefore run out of puff at higher RPM, requiring more frequent up shifts to maintain acceleration. They are however more tractable at lower RPMs meaning there is less need to shift down.
@linn1000 "Oh dear, high reving engines are for tarck use"
Like the M3, M5, Type R... etc?
"If torque was useless..."
Where did I say torque was 'useless'? I said torque by itself means nothing, which is correct.
"why would Scania trucks with 'only' 360hp but 1,500Nm of torque be able to pull 40 tonnes?"
Trucks tend to have high torque, low revving engines for reliability and economy. A lower torque variant of the same power could achieve the same wheel torque through shorter gearing.
Not necessarily. The M3 has always been high-revving, so has the Type R.
"If torque was useless then why would Scania trucks with 'only' 360hp but 1,500Nm of torque be able to pull 40 tonnes?"
Where did I say torque was 'useless'? The reason trucks use high-torque, low-revving engines is reliability and economy. A low-torque, equally powerful engine would use higher gear ratios to achieve the same wheel torque.
@linn1000 Clearly 'basic physics' is not your forté.
The force exerted by the wheels (and the resulting acceleration) at any given point in time is determined by the POWER developed by the engine at that time, not simply the torque.
Force = Power / Velocity
Think about it. If acceleration was determined by torque, would we see any high-revving V8s from Ferrari? Wouldn't Diesels out-accelerate higher-powered petrols? Wouldn't the Veyron be a Diesel? Torque by itself means nothing.
I think the M3 dont missed e gear, he is strong but not very light the Fakts 343 PS, 3250 cm³ Hubraum, Reihen 6-Zylinder, 1670 kg, we have 5 Kilo at 1 HP that means.
You cane beat the M3 with a car ho has 200 HP and a wight from not more than 1000kilo.
@linn1000 I think diesels are okay and some have impressive power but petrol engines are more reliable than modern diesels. Between turbos and Dual Mass flywheels going they are causing major headaches. And its not just BMWs its across all brands really. They are trying to squeeze too much power out of diesels.
And no one should ever (not saying you did) attempt to claim a diesel engine is a sporty drive. They have tiny power bands and really are no fun to drive in comparison to a petrol.
@linn1000 I havent had a BMW but my family have and i'm friends with a lot of BMW owners. There are a lot of problems with 320d's blowing turbos. The 530 has had a lot of issues too. Its a know issue with them. I'm not saying they are bad overall but reliability of their diesels is average at best. So boosting them a lot is going to cause issues unless the components are changed.
@linn1000 the diesel engine in a le mans car is NOTHING like the diesel engine in a road car. And the only reason diesels win Le Mans is because the regulations are skewed totally in the favour of them. Petrols are only allowed 4.0litre turbos while diesels are allowed 5.5. Can you imagine how much more power a 5.5 litre petrol turbo would produce than a 4.0? Lots is the answer.
And there is always smoke from the back of diesels. There is less now that before but its still there.
A 535d with 400hp will not last. The engine will be completely shagged in no time. Turbos fail with alarming regularity in standard BMW diesels never mind ones that have been tuned way past what they were intended for.
your shitty diesel is nothing without turbo, plus this video is bullshit,m3 is not meant for this, lets see that lazy 5series on track or in town with the m3 and have is ass handed to it,the 5series would ofcourse win when you rollstart with an m3 cause it has more torque.but can't deny how an m handles and feels, petrol for life.!!!
@Mightyhoof - it is the fuel ;) in europe a standard 535 D puts out 286 bhp but in the states it is about 265 bhp. the only reason why it is lower in america might be because of the poor diesel selection.
I regularly check back to see this vid. Just plain funny to see chubby man fall behind in his M3 while Diesel man mildly laughs at him flooring his oil burner.
@Noobiewankenoobie I made the same laugh again when you thought my other video fast fast pitched...(BMW 535d remapped 0-200). Same car and same tune. And who is now full of bs?
@MrAllroad I might be full of bs but you are full of shit. That makes quite a difference. You go and sit in your 535 enjoying the tech of your youngtimer and wait for when the cheap power-box destroys this fine engine. Again: great race but now I understand better that your laugh was nothing else but a reflection of your arrogance.
@Noobiewankenoobie Power-box??? It must be the tech-thing I use to fast pitch the video, or? Arrogance, isn't that to talk about bs and fast pitch when you don't have any facts at all. I'm still laughing...
does anybody know why my 535d m sport handles like a dog. i have had run flat tyres and have changed them to normal tyres and maybe this is why. any suggestions?
@apollosucker dude top gear tested them in a TRACK bmw's M series are best cars for track... its oviously that m3 e46 will be better in track but in stright line 535 with ecu will smoke it believe me :)
As the saying goes...HP sells cars, torque wins races.
A little math for BigGee...why not check the weight difference between cars, and I think you'll find that the cars break even when it comes to HP....so *I* question your intelligence.
The torque that the 535d has won that specific race, not the HP....oh, and regarding revs, the diesels are geared to take advantage of how the torque band is applied.
Seems someone might find it useful to understand the difference between HP and torque. ;)
STFU about torque! The 'd' won because it has 350bhp vs the M3's 333bhp. Anyone with a rudimentary understanding of high school physics can explain why torque is irrelevant in these situations.
wow..i would like to drive this car. I drive a normal 3liter diesel with standard 500Nm torque, a 535d only has 60Nm extra, but the 335d has Horsepower! I like my engine, but i feel it only runs on torque. The boost in your back only last for a few seconds while a horsepower boost is more gentle and lasts longer. But...i can still chip my engine to 272Hp and 600NM, so life just begins!
@F777F777 The 535d isnt actually a twin turbo.Twin turbo has both the turbos the same size and working at the same time .This is a dual turbo where there is a small turbo and then it twitches to a bigger turbo.
@strathpol clearly you don't know anything about this car.Like what i and F777F777 said its a two stage turbo one big one small. Now go search it on the internet its why its made not only for you to watch porn.NOW GO SUCK YOUR DADDYS BALLS.
Thats what I said you retard, and ur more of a retard since you reply to a correct comment i made several months ago. get off my nuts kid, no autographs.
@jcambridge09 yeah ofc delimted :) but if is not the m5 can't keep up with me after 180 km/h that is what i said. :) m5 limted 250 km/h mine car does 269 cause it is chiptuned to about 275 horses. and 610 nm :)

Actually HP is torque time angular velocity.
Watts=Nm X radions/second.
2 engines ..
1 = 1/2 torque but twice the rpm = same power as onther engine.
due to twice rpm can lower ratios by 1/2 means exactly same torque at wheels so exactly same perfomance, both in acceleration and top speed.
Power is what makes speed not torque. look at formula 1 !

I love my 328i. Only mod is a Signature Motoring performance intake kit. They run around $170 and add up to 9HP in the E46 323/325/328 and up to 13.9HP in the 330. That's about $17/per extra HP... A good value for the extra oomph. General HP increases are shown:
E30 series: 6.0-13.4hp gain
E36 series: 5.5-12hp gain
E46 series: 6.0-13.9hp gain
E92 series: 8.5+ hp gain
Z3/Z4 (all): 5.5-13.9hp gain

In other words, the 535d won (assuming both cars were kept within their respective power bands) because of greater power/weight, and possibly less drag among other things, being a newer car.
Here's a perfect petrol/Diesel comparison:

@linn1000 "In this video my point is proven."

BigGee84 1 year ago

@linn1000 "high reving engines are for tarck use"
Not necessarily. The M3 has always been high-revving, so has the Type R.
"If torque was useless then why would Scania trucks with 'only' 360hp but 1,500Nm of torque be able to pull 40 tonnes?"
Where did I say torque was 'useless'? The reason trucks use high-torque, low-revving engines is reliability and economy. A low-torque, equally powerful engine would use higher gear ratios to achieve the same wheel torque.
BigGee84 1 year ago
@linn1000 Clearly 'basic physics' is not your forté.
The force exerted by the wheels (and the resulting acceleration) at any given point in time is determined by the POWER developed by the engine at that time, not simply the torque.
Force = Power / Velocity
Think about it. If acceleration was determined by torque, would we see any high-revving V8s from Ferrari? Wouldn't Diesels out-accelerate higher-powered petrols? Wouldn't the Veyron be a Diesel? Torque by itself means nothing.
BigGee84 1 year ago

They have tiny power bands and really are no fun to drive in comparison to a petrol.
samsemtex 1 year ago
@linn1000 I havent had a BMW but my family have and i'm friends with a lot of BMW owners. There are a lot of problems with 320d's blowing turbos. The 530 has had a lot of issues too. Its a know issue with them. I'm not saying they are bad overall but reliability of their diesels is average at best. So boosting them a lot is going to cause issues unless the components are changed.
samsemtex 1 year ago
@linn1000 the diesel engine in a le mans car is NOTHING like the diesel engine in a road car. And the only reason diesels win Le Mans is because the regulations are skewed totally in the favour of them. Petrols are only allowed 4.0litre turbos while diesels are allowed 5.5. Can you imagine how much more power a 5.5 litre petrol turbo would produce than a 4.0? Lots is the answer.
And there is always smoke from the back of diesels. There is less now that before but its still there.
samsemtex 1 year ago

Seems someone might find it useful to understand the difference between HP and torque. ;)
Aligher1 1 year ago
HP and Torque is still the same thing ... always was ... always will be ...
Talking about power curve vs gearing however is interesting ...
hp = tq * rpm * 2 * PI / 33,000
Diesel : 350hp @ 4500 rpm -> 408 ft/lb
Petrol : 321hp @ 7900 rpm -> 213 ft/lb
at same speed, at max rpm both will generate close to the same tq at the wheels.
What's interesting about tq vs hp is not what is bigger on which engine, but rather how the engine can deliver it's tq/hp across the usable rev range.
goguhu 1 year ago
@Aligher1 The saying is actually the other way around... HP wins races, and torque sells cars.

wow..i would like to drive this car.
