last year i was at work and 2 ladies had a baby in the restaurant that was crying continuously. so one of the ladies took the child to the car and locked the door and came back in to eat and left the baby in there for 40 mins. the only problem was it was in december and it was snowing. needless to say a older guy came in the restaurant pissed, called the police and found the ladies that left the baby in the car and told them but they left before the police got there. that really pissed me off

I waited for about 5 mins. to see if anyone would come outside. When no one came I called the police but I couldn't wait around because my ride was being a jerk and wanted to leave.

I saw a dog once desperately trying to escape a hot car with the windows cracked open and i stood there and attempted to help it squeeze out of the tiny crack. He finally got out and by then a group of shoppers gathered around to help watch the dog until the owner got back. It broke my heart to leave the dog with the careless, irresponsible owner...I can't even imagine how mad i would be if it was a baby.

Similar incident happened to me. I just got out of the car going to my guitar teacher when a woman walked out of the store to find another woman waiting by her car. The woman by the car said "Oh, I see there's a baby in the car and i was just making sure it was ok." The mom said "thanks" and walked back into the store. What a fucking bitch.

The common point I see with all of these scenarios is that the only people who react are the ones who have a background connection with the story. What I mean is, someone with a baby is going to react much more quickly than someone without. While it's better than nothing, I'd still like to see people being equally compassionate towards all of these problems rather than just the ones that directly concern them... but alas.

We don't have to comprehend entirely new experiences or make entirely new decisions very often. When we have time to think about it we might decide we should step in, or that it's not our problem. But mostly I see ppl acting on autopilot.
