ooooh somewhere in the distance...I here the bells ring...darkness settles on the town....as the children start to sing....WHO THE HELL writes lyrics like that anymore????? Def Leppard rocks!
excellent 80's band...they really had a strong lead singer in Joe Elliott, totally underrated back up melodies.....great producer Robert Mutt Lange...
This song is a Classic. It popped in my head out of nowhere .i had to listen to it. it has been so long since i heard it.Takes me back. love it! Classic 80's.
Thank you for posting this song For at least a year now, I have been racking my brain every-now-and-then, even searching Youtube to find whom was responsible for this memorable heavy-metal-guitar- riff-intro (or whatever you call it)! I kept thinking it was Def Leopard, even somewhere in the Rock of Ages song, but of course it wasn't it. Now I can sleep at night, lol!
R.I.P. Steve, my sweet angel.... it's been almost a week since the 21st anniversary of your death... I really like this video... especially Joe's hair <333
Anyone seen the other video of that: the band canoe in a foggy river at night etc. I borrow some DL video long time ago from library and seen it. Never seen after that. Shit, i bring it back! Hope you understan my poor english, i`m from far, far Finland. And east-edge.
@DubrowMark I guess it depends on your definition of glam. 85% of the so called "glam" bands are strictly heavy metal or hard rock. The only reason they get attacked is because of their image. Who gives a shit what they look like? I care about their music, and they can play damn good stuff!!!!
Steven Maynard Clark was suck an awesome musicly accomplished guitarist its sad hes dead... he was so cool and unique and its horrid, that every day goes by without him here...
when rick allen still had both arms before his accident and before Steve Smith, died!!
when Phil Colin joined the group replacing Pete Willis, was probably the best thing ever for the group, he was so much more hip, trendy and to the times,, which made their appeal last for a long time,, THEY ROCK
I think you're underestimating the number of Pete Willis-era fans still out there. Similar to Sammy Hagar joining Van Halen, the line-up change may have increased sales, but, I don't know that the quality of the music automatically improved as a result. If anything, in both bands, the music definitely became MUCH more accessible and radio-friendly for sure. Personally, I don't see that as anything to brag about.
@paulmccartneyishot Stuff like this NEVER gets old, NEVER dies, and it's the reason the kids today are remaking all our chit from back then from clothes to hair to songs to movies !!!!
@princessoffire1107 I aint startin an arguement, but I'm one of the ONLY people in my high school (i'm 15) who doesn't listen to that pop shit! I only listen to Def Leppard, the Mighty Zeppelin, AC/DC etc.
A few fuckin' bad apples set a steriotype about kids today, but that's how it goes

92% of teens prefer pop and hip-hop.If you are part of the 8% that still listens to real music, copy and paste this message to 5 other videos, + I am one of the 8% of teens that still listens to awesome rock music
This music has heart where the garabage of today is useless and without meaning. These guys were singing about the problems of the 80's and how we as a people needed to stand up and stop them. Now today things are ten times as bad and all the bands can sing about is being gay and killing their own people because of where they live. God help this crap hole of a country, its not what I servered her for!
This song is just pure awesome. In addition though, the video is done incredibly well. The simple style which was still relatively common in 1983 worked so great with this song. At 0:57 the transition is just so perfect if gives me the damn chills.
man, i wasn't an 80's kid, but i will say this much...the 80's was definitely the era when rock/metal was at its highest height, and its all because of bands like the one you're listening to right here. i wish i coulda grown up back then so bad; it had to have been awesome
@davebautista1 Good question. I think Collen only played on music videos after the songs were recorded, not sure though. Clark was the main guy however and one can really see a difference to the later albums were Collen has more influence. No offense to Phil Collen, he is a great guy and musician but I feel Steve Clark had a gigantic impact on the Def Leppard sound I love!
Pete Willis got fired some half year before the release of Pyromania. So he definitively was involved in some way.
@dannywizz I am sure losing Pete Willis had a big influence as well. I do like the Hysteria album, just not as much as the 1st three albums. Anything after Hysteria is not even worth talking about.
@davebautista1 I totally agree with you. I mostly listen to the High N Dry album cause I like its raw sound and simplicity. I hardly listen to anything after Hysteria but they do have one or another song that is ok. Pete Willis, Steve Clark and Mutt Lange had the most influence on the Def Leppard sound that we like I presume.
I think Def Leppard after Steves death were a little bit to cocky because of the Hysteria success and they saw themselves as invincible. I think Mutt Lange knew it!
@dannywizz I have tried to listen to Def Leppard after Hysteria, but I just don't like their softer pop sound. High 'N' Dry and Pyromania are awesome albums and for them to put out an album like Slang is a disgrace. Many bands have changed their sound (Metallica) for instance and their music is still good. Load and Reload are nothing like Master of Puppets, but I still like many songs off of those 2 albums. Also, Metallica's last album was great. Why can't Def Lepp rock on an album again?
@dannywizz Collen only played the guitar solo on Stagefright, and according to bandmates and Mutt, he nailed it in one take. Pete had already laid down guitar tracks on the rest of the album, and I'm willing to bet he was fired the minute Phil's solo left five jaws on the ground.
@raypowersmusic Yeah, you are probably right. Pete were a drunkard at that time. Collen is a proficient guitar player nevertheless but I do prefer Clarks style of playing and songwriting.
@dannywizz Well, yeah - and I'll bet Phil will readily agree with you! He was enamored with his counterpart's innate ability to sound like he was born with a guitar in his hands. Steve was one of a kind. Being a 'rock star' came naturally to him.
When this album came out I picked it up on cassette and would take my BMX bike and strap my boom box to the handlebars and ride all over town listening to this tape over and over until all 16 C batteries died lol - 1983? lol

IT'S FUNNY HOW PHIL OVERALL WAS THE BEST SOLO PLAYER OUT OF THE TWO. BUT THIS IS MY FAVORITE DEF LEPPARD SONG AND SURE ENOUGH STEVE'S PLAYING THE SOLO. I BROUGHT THIS CASSETTE TO SCHOOL WHEN I WAS IN 5TH GRADE (11) AND TRUMPED OUT MY FRIEND'S GO-GO'S VACATION CASSETTE... NO CONTEST. I STILL HAVE THE ORIGINAL CASSETTE TAPE. GREAT MUSIC NEVER GETS OLD.
