  • oil it lol might stop the jurking and sezing

  • i have the small single cylinder model brought it new about 14 years ago it had pleanty of running blew the solder joints on the plumbing and cylinder but still runs great as for the scortching i used "mothers" brand mag/aluminium polish came up like new

  • To the uninitiated, why is it such a good engine?

  • @mayhem001boats

The Hobbies/Mamod SE4 steam engines are extremely rare

They where only made for four years (1936-1940)

With a estimated production run of around 1500

And they where hand made by Geoffrey Malins himself (The founder of Mamod)

And of course they are extremely charasmatic and powerfull engines

  • It sure runs smooth.

  • Thx Ray, they new how to make things in 1937

  • A lovely engine. Very robustly built.

  • Is there anyway of regulating the steam output to the piston? i would like to control the piston speed (musical experiment)

  • Not really with this model, you could open and close the whistle which would alter the steam presure

You would be better useing a Mamod SE2 or SE3 which had a steam regulator

  • i have one they vibrate alot thou

  • Excellent - really good to see an SE4 working. Hope to own one myself one day. Just got to figure out a way of not letting the wife know I've spent 4 or 5 hundred quid on it :)

  • I wish you luck stuman

Finding a SE4 is the easy part

Buying it, and not letting the wife know

Now that might be tricky :)

  • Its very nice I particularly like the boiler. What sort of a meths burner is that? It looks like it has no wicks. I'm experimenting at the moment with a MSS loco. I regularly watch your little demo along with many similar. Thanks again for taking the touble. I will try to get something of mine on the tube.

  • The meths burner is out of a Mamod SE3 twin cylinder engine, unfortunatly I dont have the original burner for this engine.

  • The best Mamod ever made.

  • Definatly,Without a doubt

It all went down hill after the SE4 :)

  • lol "the dog's errrr... nackers?"

  • what is that white thing in the background that keeps going up and down?

  • Its the sun shinning through my venition blinds, I had to shut them as the sun was so bright, but a little light kept creeping in :)

    Its very annoying I know

  • what is that white thing in the background that keeps going up and down?

  • Very interesting to watch such an old engine in action. You need a new camera/memory card, I think ;-)

  • Its on my shopping list James, but everytime I save up enough money to buy one I spend it on another steam engine :)

  • works good :)

  • Loved the video and the commentary. It might be our only chance to see one running so much appreciated. Of course an SE 4 is on our dream list of engines. Cheers Graham-Jilly

  • Thx for your comment Graham-Jilly :)

The SE4 really is a beutifull steam engine

I wish you lots of luck on your quest to find one

    Cheers Mike

  • No worries Chuck

Thx for taking the time to watch my video and for rating it.

    Cheers Mate . :)

  • Hi Mike, loved the engine and the vid! But I misunderstood the rating system and so clicked the wrong thing, so I screwed up when trying to rate it. I'm really sorry about that, mate.

  • Super engine Kn and video

  • Thx Lewis :)
